Home Remedies For Jaundice: Procedure, Recovery, Risk & Complication

What is the remedy about?

Many home remedies for jaundice are being used for centuries with the aid of basic and easily available household ingredients. Some of them are highly effective in flushing out excessive bilirubin that causes the ailment and detoxifying the blood. This, in turn, helps in the promotion of normal liver function without causing any unwanted side effects. Juice of radish along with radish leaves is known to be very effective for curing jaundice. Make sure that the radish is fresh and try to extract the juice of radish along with its leaves. It may seem impossible to drink raw radish juice and in that case, you can always add some honey or dilute it with water. Radish juice helps in flushing out excess bilirubin and detoxifies the blood. It will also help in improving the bowel movement which in turn, will bring back your appetite. Gooseberry juice and lemon are both enriched in Vitamin C. Indian Gooseberry creates a protective shield in the damaged liver cells and improve overall blood circulation. When consumed together, the lemon juice and gooseberry juice help in neutralizing the damage which has been caused by free radicals and aid in restoring the optimal function of the liver. There are certain regions of the world where gooseberry is not available and if this is the case with you, then you should drink as much as lemon juice as possible. Both of these are regarded as one of the most effective home remedies for jaundice. Fresh sugarcane juice along with a few drops of lemon juice can also work wonders for your liver. Adding a few crushed lemon leaves in a cup of boiling hot water and drinking it every day can offer some relief to your damaged liver. You will have to wash the leaves thoroughly before adding them to the water and steep it for about 5 minutes before drinking. You can drink this water as many times as you want to. You can also add 2 tablespoons of oregano in a cup of hot water and leave the mixture for the temperature to come down. You can drink this liquid after straining it. Papaya leaves help in eliminating toxins from the bloodstream and aid the liver to function normally. You will need to make a paste with a few papaya leaves and add some honey to it. It is important to take this mixture until you recover from it completely. Barley is one of the excellent home remedies for improving jaundice and is regarded as an effective diuretic for detoxifying the bloodstream and the liver. You can consume barley by taking a cupful of it and boiling it in about 3 to 4 liters of water. Drink the whole mixture every day until the symptoms of jaundice subside.

Are there any side effects?

There are no side effects of the home remedies for jaundice and most of them not only improve the function of the liver but optimize the overall body function. Before you choose any ingredient, you must ensure that you are not allergic to that particular ingredient. If you are not aware of what you are sensitive to, you can always consult an expert for further guidance. An expert can evaluate your overall health condition and medical history to recommend the best remedy for you. While pursuing a solution, you can sense marked improvement in your condition, if not it might mean you will have to try another option. Since these are simple home based ingredients, it will not worsen the condition, so you will have space and time to try out. In case the condition gets severe, it is best to seek professional help. And one of the prominent medicinal practice of Ayurveda uses simple readily available herb based remedy as well.

What are the post-remedy guidelines?

When it comes to jaundice, it is very important to follow strict post-remedy guidelines. Not only that, but the patient should also follow certain guidelines when suffering from jaundice. For instance, it is important to be on a juice diet for the first week only. It can constitute lemons, oranges, papaya, beets, carrots, pears, grapes, sugarcane, and radish. Also, a hot water enema is also recommended during this period to help in bowel movement so that the toxins and decomposed materials do not get absorbed into the blood stream. It is also important to get proper rest, drink plenty of water with some lemon juice and avoid all foods that can aggravate your digestive tract.

How long does it take to recover?

It may take about 10 days to recover from the signs and symptoms of jaundice but it may take about a month to recover completely. Actually, it is entirely dependent on the severity of bilirubin accumulation that has caused jaundice. If the illness is detected in its early stages, then it becomes easier to get rid of the infection and recover much faster. But if the condition of the patient is very severe, then it will definitely take much longer for the symptoms to subside.

Are the results of the remedy permanent?

If the jaundice is mild and in its simple form, then it would be cured rapidly without any medical intervention and lead to permanent results. But the recovery process would be much slower and the germs are likely to stay in the bloodstream for serious cases of jaundice. It is necessary to rest until the patient feels completely cured and the disease has subsided entirely. It is also important to adhere to the post remedy guidelines.

Is there any training or experts required?

As mentioned earlier, there is no training or experts required for curing the patient suffering from the mild form of jaundice. Following the home remedies diligently will help in alleviating the symptoms of jaundice. But it is crucial to consult with an expert when the jaundice is severe and has advanced to acute levels. It is important to follow a strict diet plan, medications, home remedies and get proper rest in such instances.

Jaundice - Common Causes Of It!!

Jaundice is a disease which causes the skin and the sclerae of the eye to turn yellow. It is caused by hyperbilirubinemia or excess secretion of bilirubin into the blood. The body fluids may also turn yellow. The shade of the skin depends on the bilirubin level. A mild increase in the bilirubin turns the skin pale yellow, and high level makes the skin turn brown.

There are three primary types of jaundice:

  1. Hepatocellular jaundice: This type of jaundice occurs due to liver disorders.
  2. Hemolytic jaundice: This type of jaundice occurs due to the breakdown of erythrocytes or red blood cells, and then excess bilirubin is produced.
  3. Obstructive jaundice: This type of jaundice develops due to an obstruction in your bile duct, restricting the bilirubin to exit the liver.

The common causes of jaundice are as follows:

  1. Inflammation of the liver disables the secretion and production of bilirubin and results in a buildup of bilirubin.
  2. Inflammation of the bile duct disables the secretion of bile juice, which results in bilirubin removal and leads to jaundice.
  3. In case the bile duct gets obstructed, the liver cannot dispose the bilirubin and leads to hyperbilirubinemia.
  4. Hemolytic anaemia may result in jaundice. When a large number of red blood cells break down, bilirubin production gets enhanced.
  5. An inherited condition known as Gilbert’s syndrome may also lead to jaundice. The enzyme’s ability to process bile excretion is also impaired.
  6. Another medical condition called Cholestasis disrupts the flow of bile from the liver. The conjugated bilirubin containing bile remains in the liver and leads to jaundice.
  7. Jaundice is also caused from alcoholic liver disease, caused due to excess alcohol consumption.

Treatment of jaundice
Jaundice itself cannot be cured and hence, the underlying cause of the jaundice is treated. Different types of jaundice are cured using different methods:

  1. Jaundice induced by anaemia can be cured by increasing the iron amount in your blood. This is done by intake of iron supplements or having iron rich food.
  2. Jaundice caused from hepatitis is treated by injections of anti-viral and steroid medicines.
  3. Obstruction induced jaundice has to be treated by surgical means. The obstruction is removed by surgery.
  4. Jaundice inflicted from medication is usually treated by choosing alternative medicines and abstaining from the medicines which caused the jaundice.
  5. Jaundice can be kept away if you take proper care of your liver. For this, you should eat a balanced diet, work out regularly and prohibit yourself from consuming excess of alcohol.

Jaundice is the most common type of liver disorder and occurs in people of all ages and also in newborn babies. Keep away from contaminated food and water, if you want to avoid jaundice.

Homeopathy Constitutional Remedies
Know how Homeopathy constitutional remedies can cure Chronic cases

Hi, I m Dr. Monty Talwar, practicing in Gurgaon, I have an experience of about 20 years in homeopathy, I practice classical homeopathy wherein we take into account the patient s nature and temperament especially in chronic cases. The constitutional cases are very deep-acting and they will stimulate the immune system of the patient. Thereby, the patient s body fights on its own, so we are not providing a continuous stimulus or a medicine from outside as the body takes charge of itself.

The example in thyroid cases, especially in hypothyroidism when we give the constitutional medicine it stimulates the thyroid gland so that it starts secreting the hormone on its own. As a result, the patient can be off the thyroid medicine. Similarly, in frequent colds and coughs in children where they fall sick too often, so these medicines build up the immunity of the child, so that they do not fall sick that often. Because of this individualistic approach, homeopathy is considered to be a holistic science.

Acidity - Causes & Remedies
Hello!

I am Dr. Malvika Pandey. Ayurveda doctor. Working in Bnchy Wellness Medispa.

Here I am to discuss something about a very common health problem that is acidity. In Ayurveda, this is understood as Amlipitam. This diseases is very common in today s generation because of the common issues which are propounding it lari vari shari kari. Acidity is due to more excess, excess of acid production in gastrointestinal tract overs. Normally the pH of stomach remains acidic. But in hyper acidic condition it gets escalated. For this it results in the conditions like heartburns, dyspepsia, belching and sometime bloating of stomach. Which can be easily seen and felt by the patient as symptoms and doctor can examine in the form of science.

The basic reasons for acidity is stressful conditions, we are living in, and insufficient sleeps, irregular way of taking meals. And also the suppression of our urges. These all conditions lead to aggravation of dosha, basically the pita dosha. And the stomach which is basically concern with the pita dosha is affected the most. And also the first part of intestine that is the duodenum which is very much involved in this. And the basic symptoms which occur in this diseases are belching. Heart burn, bloating heaviness of the stomach itching. Headache and even in the later stages it can seen as ulceration.

So how can we cure this disease? The thing which is very important in Ayurveda is prevention is better than cure. So better to prevent it. Better to get into the things which can check the excess of pita dosha which is known as the pit prokap ahar vehar. We should check it on. For this in Ayurveda we are getting two ways. It can be saan shodhan chikatsha, it can be sanshaman chikatsha. In sanshaman chikatsha which is basically concerned with suppression of the aggravated doshas. In this the pit shamak oshadi like, the yashti madhu, the shadang pani of course they are included in the diet of the patient. And vehara the things which areegated pita like kordha, kama. All the thing which increases the pita should be contained. And in the saan shodhan chikatsha, we do the eradication of dosha. In sanshaman, we suppress the dosha. In saan shodhan we eradicate the dosha out from the body by the usage of panchakarma chikatsha. Which is compressing of sneehan sheden waman geychannan basti.

For this pit dosha. It is basically concerned with the verachan chikatsha. In this the proper procedure of sneehan sheden. Then vaman is given to the patient. Vaman is, means incorporated. And later on lastly the verachan chikatsha is done. It is best for the pita shaman.
