What is the remedy about?

Stomach Indigestion is characterized by pain in the stomach and under the ribs. Symptoms of stomach indigestion are stomach bloating, nausea and gas. These are a few remedies for stomach indigestion:

  • Ginger: Ginger is very helpful for stomach indigestion. Eating a few raw pieces of ginger or mixing a piece of ginger with your cup of tea can be greatly beneficial for stomach trouble.
  • Peppermint: Peppermint is helpful in soothing intestinal muscle spasms and relieving nausea. A cup or two of peppermint tea would be greatly helpful in treating stomach indigestion.
  • Baking Soda: Mix a teaspoon full of baking soda in a glass of water. Drinking it would help in neutralizing your stomach if it is too acidic. It also helps relieve painful gas.
  • Lemon water: This is another remedy for stomach upset. It helps in dispelling gas from your stomach.
    • Beer: Half a glass of beer can also be very helpful in clearing up your stomach.

Are there any side effects?

Sometimes, Baking soda and water are known to react violently in the stomach, causing tearing of tissues. To avoid it, mix a few drops of lime in it. Also, don't exceed half a glass of beer as it might aggravate stomach problems.

What are the post-remedy guidelines?

Some post remedy precautions are-

  • Avoid eating spicy food.
  • Avoid eating junk food
  • Avoid too much alcohol
  • Eat a lot of green vegetables

How long does it take to recover?

Usually it takes a day or two for the remedies to show its effect. However, if conditions do not improve within two days, it is highly recommended that you consult a doctor.

Are the results of the remedy permanent?

No. Even after you are cured, if you do not follow precautions, chances are you'll have stomach trouble once again. So, it is advisable to follow the precautions for a week or so atleast.

Indigestion:

• Indigestion refers to an upset stomach

2. Add 1 tsp lemon juice

Natural home remedy using coriander leaves, buttermilk and cardamom powder:

1. Crush a few coriander leaves
2. Press them in a sieve
3. Extract juice
4. Mix 1 tbsp yogurt in 1 cup water
5. Add 1 tsp salt and make buttermilk
6. Add 3 tsp of coriander juice to it
7. Add ½ tsp of cardamom powder to it
8. Drink 1 hr after every meal

Tips:

• Eat jaggery after every meal

Indigestion, also known by the medical term dyspepsia, is due to a problem in the secretion of digestive juices in the stomach. Usually indigestion occurs after eating spicy or fatty foods or overeating.

It can also be triggered or made worse due to gastroesophageal reflux disease (gerd), irritable bowel syndrome, stress or anxiety, obesity, ulcers, stomach infection, thyroid disease, smoking and certain medications.

Some symptoms of indigestion are bloating, gas, growling stomach, abdominal pain, burning sensation in the upper abdomen, acidic taste and vomiting.

You can easily get relief from indigestion symptoms using ingredients from your pantry. For instance, sipping a little water at the first sign of indigestion can give you some relief as it helps increase the gastric ph.

Alternately, you can also add a few drops of lemon juice with a little ginger juice and a teaspoon of honey in warm water and drink this after ever meal. 2. Buttermilk

This is one of the most refreshing home remedies for gas problem. Although, it is said that milk should be avoided if you’re suffering from indigestion. Buttermilk is a form of lactic acid that is the easiest to digest. It soothes the stomach and gives relief from acidity.

3. Cardamom

Just chewing a seed of cardamom or sipping some cardamom tea can help to get relief from gas and indigestion. Cardamom seeds can also be added to some vegetables. This will prevent indigestion from occurring.

4. Warm water

Keeping your body hydrated can help to prevent and cure acidity and gas. If possible, start your day by drinking lots of water and continue to do so throughout the day. Water helps to eliminate all the toxins from the body and cleans your entire system.

What is indigestion (dyspepsia)?

Indigestion is a term used to describe a feeling of fullness or discomfort during or after a meal. It can be accompanied by burning or pain in the upper stomach.

Home remedies for indigestion

1. Mix equal part of ginger juice (adrak ka rass) with lemon juice (nimbu ka rass) and add some rock salt (sendha namak, khanij namak) and take it before meals.
2. Take 2-3 gm of dried ginger powder with luke warm water.
3. Take carrot juice.
4. Take 1 tsp. Of peppermint oil three times a day between meals.
5. Chew and swallow a spoonful of fennel or caraway seeds stop indigestion.
6. Roast, grind and sieve fennel seeds. Take half a teaspoon of this powder along with water twice daily.
7. Take 10 gm of old jaggery (gudha) with a pinch of long pepper (piplamul, lindi pepper, piplamool) powder
8. Mix 3 gm of ajowan (ajwain) powder with 3 gm of dried ginger powder and take it one hour before meal.

One of the most common health problems people have is indigestion. As per ayurveda, the accumulation of Ama or toxins leads to an imbalance in the way the small and large intestines functions along with various other participating organs like the liver and more. And this is the rootcause for indigestion.

The digestive tract or system is one of the most important organs of the body. Ayurveda relies on the rhythms and functions of the body to find the rootcause of ailments. Indigestion usually occurs because of bad daily habits & less physical activity.

There are many ways to treat to indigestion in an ayurvedic way. Let us look at the top tips for the same:

  1. Timely intake of meals: For better digestion, one must take meals at the same time everyday. Also, do not sit down for the next meal before the previous meal has been digested properly.

I'm 22 years old. I've been smoking for 6 months. When I started smoking, I used to smoke 10 cigarettes in a day. 1 month ago I started smoking 2 cigarettes a day. 2 weeks ago I was having liquor on a friend's birthday (I drink occasionally) after that we had vaang with malai kulfi. First 1 hour I was ok but then when I got back home, I started feeling suffocated and also started vomiting, feeling weak, legs started shaking, chest pain etc. I took pankreoflat after that and PAN40 and everything came back to normal. Next day I was alright and had home made breakfast, lunch, dinner and didn't smoke. 2 days later I had pizza and I felt uneasy. It felt like something stuck inside my chest. I was shocked but it got stopped after few hours of rest. From then on I started taking home made food and take green tea twice in a day and drink lots of water. But sometimes I feel like the food is not going down , it gets stuck somewhere in chest. I also feel chest pain in the morning. Is this digestion problem or lungs problem and what should I do now?

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. You neither have digestive disorder nor lung disorder. Buf the problem is reflex related to acidity. You are doing well. Make sure to consume only homely food without much spices and oil. Exercise regularly. Include ginger and garlic in your daily diet. You will be alright in a week. Take care.

I always feel like I am full. I can't pass the stool easily. Even for 3-3 days. Always feel like vomit out. Even vomit out sometimes in a very small amount. I don't eat any fried item and street food outside. But I am not able to eat even home made chapatis.

you should eat more of fibre and water. consume at least 8 to 10 glasses. as per your height your weight is more than required. you should get yourself tested for hypothyroidism also.

My girl can't eat spicy food at all & she always eat home made food, can't even eat outside as always face problem with digestion, how to tackle this situation, pls advice.

It's good to avoid outside food and nice to have home food, don't force her to eat junk food it will cause acidity, spice and fried foods will cause acidity so better avoid them rather than using medicines to counter act the effect.

Eat a high-fiber diet. Get insoluble and soluble fiber. Limit foods that are high in fat. Choose lean meats. Incorporate probiotics into your diet. Eat on schedule. Stay hydrated.

Sir, im arindam, 22 yr, 169 cm and my body weight is only 48 kg. I have chronic digestive disorder such as gas, flatulence, acidity, indigestion, nausea after meal and constipation also, bowl is not clear properly. Im underweight, and tiredness too with low b.p. Follow the following tips:- · Pay attention to your health and food intake. · To increase your appetite, have a glass of lime water or 1 cardamom (elaichi) before your meal. · Have minimum 4 meals in a day. · Drink 1 glass of milk twice a day. · Try to enjoy your meals and gradually increase the quantity you eat every time. · A balance diet should have all essential nutrients in it. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It should include combination of Both Carbohydrates and Proteins for e.g. Oats with Milk or Poha/ Upma with a glass of milk. If you do not like milk have 1-2 egg whites in the morning along with your breakfast. · You need to focus on your protein intake: Increase your protein intake e.g. Milk, dairy products- cheese, paneer, lentils (dals), nuts (soya, peanuts, dry fruits ), pulses e.g. Rajma, chole, kidney beans etc. Sprouts. If you are a non-vegetarian, then you can have proteins by also eating eggs, chicken, fish. Make sure you are including at least 2 serving of any of these in your daily meal. · Lunch and dinner again should be a combination of Proteins, Carbohydrates and Fats which could have dal, roti, sabji/chicken, salad. · Please do have minimum 4 almonds or a small bowl of peanuts every day. · Please ensure that you drink at least 3 litres of water every day.
