9 Things That Can Help Manage Hair Fall!

Hair-fall is a normal process, if we consider the hair-growth cycle that lasts for two to six weeks. The usual rate of growth is about one centimeter a month. After two to three months, hair which were in their ‘resting phase’ shed to allow new hair to grow back. Deviation from this normal cycle leads to abnormal hair-fall which can then become a matter of concern.

Tips to handle abnormal hair loss

  1. Testing hair thinning: Take 20 to 30 hair strands and hold them between your thumb and index finger. Pull firmly and slowly. If more than six hair strands happen to come out at a time, then you might be suffering from abnormal hair loss.
  2. Limited use of hair dryers: Consistent heating weakens the hair proteins and leads to brittleness and fragility of hair follicles. Hence, limit the uses of hair dryers, curlers, hair straightness or hot brushes.
  3. Avoid Perms: Avoid chemical straightening or curling which breaks the inner bonding of your hair and makes the hair brittle.
  4. Avoid bleachingBleaching removes the natural pigment and weakens the hair follicles.
  5. Avoid pulling the hair strands tightly: Certain hairstyling involves tightly pulling the hair and using clips or elastics, tight braids, plaits, cornrows, tight ponytail. Avoid using heated rollers. ‘Traction alopecia’ is the term coined for tightly pulling of your hair.
  6. Use a mild shampoo: Regularly washing your hair cleanses your hair as well as your scalp which prevents any chance of infection and the subsequent hair loss. Instead of shampooing daily, do it on alternate days. Mild shampoo includes sultaines, sulfosuccinates, silicones, and amphoacetate.
  7. Right Choice of Shampoo: Use different shampoos for different purposes; dandruff, greasy or normal hair and for dry hair. If the shampoo is rich in protein, it may boost the volume and make it thicker and smoother for a temporary period, but does not repair the damaged hair
  8. Use a good hairbrush: Use a soft brush, made of natural fibers. Instead of a brush, use a comb for wet hair.
  9. Scalp Massage: Massage your hair with nourishing oils such as rosemary, coconut, almond or lavender oil. It warms your skin and boosts blood circulation and provides nutrients to the follicles.

Genetic Baldness - Does PRP Treatment Give Long Lasting Results?

Hair loss is a common problem and is a source of worry for millions of people around the world. While many forms of treatment have been developed over the years, science has yet to conclusively prove the benefits of many such hair loss treatments. PRP treatment is one such baldness treatment, which is highly popular. However, is it effective at treating baldness?

What is PRP treatment?

Platelet-rich plasma or PRP treatment is a procedure involving three distinct steps. The first step involves drawing blood from your body. Doctors will process this blood and then inject it into your scalp. The medical community is divided when it comes to determining the efficiency of this treatment. Some doctors believe it helps natural hair growth, while others feel that more research and study is necessary.

Here is a detailed look at the PRP procedure.

  • Step 1- Doctors will draw your blood from your arm. They place the blood in a centrifuge.

  • Step 2- After 10 minutes inside the centrifuge, the blood separates into red blood cells, platelet-rich plasma and platelet-poor plasma.

  • Step 3- The doctors inject the platelet-rich plasma into the scalp of the patient suffering from baldness.

The disadvantages of PRP treatment for baldness-

Even though the treatment may show some positive results, there are several negative aspects of PRP treatment, which you need to consider.

  • Not enough scientific evidence to support its efficiency against baldness

  • Can lead to side effects, such as injury to blood vessels, infection, calcification and others

  • PRP treatment is expensive and you may not be able to afford it.

Therefore, it is better not to rely on PRP treatments for your hair loss. In fact, Ayurvedic treatments are your best option, in terms of safety and reliability.

Role of Ayurveda in treating baldness-

Ayurveda is the oldest branch of medicine in the world. It relies on remedies sourced from various trees, plants, fruits and more. In Ayurveda, hair loss of any kind is known as Khalitya. Ayurvedic practitioners believe that hair loss occurs because of faults in all three doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) in the human body. Depending on the cause for the baldness, the doctor will prescribe the type of Ayurvedic remedy suitable to you.

Oils, extracts, packs may help rejuvenate your hair follicles and lead to hair growth. Additionally, Panchakarma treatment also helps fight against baldness. Lastly, all of these treatments have to be combined with lifestyle changes, if you want to experience the best results.

10 Strange Things Behind Hair Fall!

Hair fall is one of the most common problems encountered by people all over the world. Stress is inevitable on seeing a couple of hair strands from our pillow, study table, drainage in bathroom and what not. Many reasons (including social) makes us visit places, such as Barber shops / Parlours / Friends and Dermatologists.

Hairfall has multiple reasons to its credit:

  1. Hereditary: Genes are to be blamed (usually) for hair fall in maximum number of cases i.e the ‘Family Tree’. Anyone with Hairfall from our Father/Mother’s side can explain the same in our case.

  2. Diet: Anything except Fruits and Vegetables (of course the Junk Food) in the diet can be a reason for our malnourished hairs and hair fall. High protein diet is beneficial in most of the cases.

  3. Sleep: Regular sleeping habits can reduce the frequency of hair fall.

  4. Stress: Subconcious stress is one of the major reasons for not only Hairfall but also many common illnesses encountered in our day to day life. Try YOGA, avoid Stress.

  5. Parlour Procedures: We do an irreversible damage by treating our hairs with harsh chemicals/ Hair dryer. Please avoid.

  6. Hard water: If your tap gives you a fluoride/hard/boring water for bathing, its time to switch to a treated water.

  7. Medications: Excessive, unnecessary medications for some other diseases may also make your hairs to fall.

  8. Smoking: Avoid any kind of habit to restore your hair health.

  9. Dandruff: Hair oil application (usually) increases the dandruff of the scalp which leads to hairfall. Avoid doing so.

  10. Google Gyan: You may actually harm yourself by following the Tips on Google (which usually are devoid of any scientific proof).

Alopecia Treatment In Homeopathy!

One of the biggest worries that can be caused by a seemingly harmless thing is that caused by falling of hair or hair loss as it immediately throws up a stark image of a bald pate, which no one wants to have. The very thought of hair fall tends to lower your confidence about your looks. It may even make you a target of jokes. A commonly heard joke in our part of the world is that if one is losing hair, it is an indication that he is becoming rich. In reality, the opposite is more likely to be true. A person with falling hair ends up losing or spending a fortune trying to stop the hair from falling and preserving one’s crowning glory. Moreover, there is no dearth of enterprising people out to fleece such patients who are already hassled.

Causes of Hairfall or Baldness-
The causes of excessive hairfall can vary from person to person as there are various possible reasons for this phenomenon.

  1. Deficiency in one’s diet where one does not get adequate levels of the required minerals and vitamins can be one prominent cause. Micronutrients like Zinc, Selenium and Iron are important for the normal growth of hair and any deficiency in these can cause hairfall.
  2. The absence of good health or the presence of some or the other illness can also cause the hairfall to increase.
  3. In males, the most common cause is the androgenic baldness or the male pattern baldness. This variety of baldness is present only in males and tends to run in families. It occurs due to the presence of an excess of testosterone, which results in increased hair growth all over the body but the hair on the head falls out.
  4. Fungal infections of the scalp can also cause baldness in patches. Other localised infections of the scalp can also cause hairfall.
  5. Hairfall can occur in females just after pregnancy or after delivery. This has to do with the changes in the hormones that occur during these phases.

Role of Homeopathy in Curing Hairfall-

Homeopathy is very effective in treating hair fall or baldness or alopecia. As mentioned earlier, when we say baldness, we do not mean the male pattern baldness or the androgenic baldness. In such cases, we can only reduce the hairfall. But in other cases, the homeopathic medicines for hair fall not only treat the symptoms i.e. the hairfall but also cure the systemic problems that are the root cause of the hairfall. In case the bald spots are happening due to fungal infections, the homeopathic medicines eradicate the fungus completely and the hair grow back on their own completely naturally.

Homoeopathic Medicines For Hair Fall or Baldness or Alopecia-
Homoeopathic medicines like Acid Flour, Phosphorus, Lycopodium, Thuja and Silicea have been very effective in treating hair loss. It is very important to study the patient in great detail and find the exact cause of the problem and treat the root cause. Sometimes, there may be some hidden stress in the mind of the patient which may have caused this hair fall and it also needs to be treated accordingly if we want a permanent cure to the problem. Given below are the 5 best Homeopathic medicines for hair fall or baldness-

  1. Acid Flour – best homoeopathic medicine for baldness in spots
  2. Thuja – best remedy for hair fall with dandruff
  3. Lycopodium – best medicine for hair fall after delivery
  4. Silicea – best treatment for baldness with constipation
  5. Phosphorus- best medicine for hair falling out in handfuls

These medicines are very effective in treating hair fall or baldness. The only thing is that the symptoms of the patient should be matched carefully with the right homoeopathic medicine. In a lot of cases, some different medicine might be required based on the symptoms of the patient.

FUE Over FUT For Hair Transplant - Know Why!

FUE Over FUT For Hair Transplant - Know Why!

In the past few years, the number of people who are looking to undergo hair transplants has increased significantly. This rise has been attributed to a rise in hair loss across age groups. In fact, hair loss was earlier thought to start only from one’s middle age, but now over 40% men and 50% women below the age of 35 are victims of hair loss. Not just that, this number increases to 65% for men above 65 years of age.

This is one of the factors why people are looking for solutions like hair transplants. Hair transplant is of two types –

  • Follicular Unit Excision (FUE)

  • Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT)

Let us look at both these methods –

1. FUE -

This method involves extracting hair follicles from areas of the scalp that has a higher density of hair. Once the follicles are extracted, they are then inserted into the areas where hair density is low. This is a new procedure relatively and has seen a rise in popularity in the recent past.

2. FUT -

This is a more traditional method. It involves removing strips of hair from the back of the scalp and then placing them in circular incisions in areas of the scalp affected by hair loss.

Which one is better?

Because hair transplant is cosmetic surgery, there will be some amount of scarring involved. In this regard, FUE has better because there is little tissue scarring. In FUT however, because linear strips of hair are removed and placed in the front of the scalp, there will be big scars. Now if you cut your hair short, these scars will be visible.

FUT is more painful, and requires the restriction of the neck for some days, whereas in FUE nothing such happens so it is considered to be the painless and better method.

The next point is the recovery time. Since FUE involves individual follicle extraction, the recovery period is short. In FUT, patches of the scalp are removed so the scalp tissues experience more trauma. Due to this, the recovery period is FUT is longer.

In FUE, the doctor can also use body hair and transplant it in the scalp. Hair from the beard or the chest area can be used for this purpose. This is not possible in the FUT procedure.

Overall, the FUE procedure has more benefits compared to the FUT procedure. But you should consult a doctor to determine which is suitable for you.

Please note FUE should be done by a plastic surgeon to achieve good results and not by technicians.

Hair Problems - Can Homeopathy Resolve Them?

Hair Problems - Can Homeopathy Resolve Them?

Every other person today is exposed to various hair problems irrespective of their age or gender. Several factors including one’s diet, overall health and lifestyle, are responsible for causing hair problems. On top of that, pollution plays a major role in damaging your hair too!

Although hair problems are a major concern for both males and females, nearly 40% of women encounter visible hair loss by age 40. The most common conditions affecting your scalp and hair include hair fall, dandruff and split ends-

Hair fall- Most people are familiar with hair fall- you are used to witnessing broken strands of hair on the towel after having a bath, or on the comb. This condition is prevalent in those who have had a genetic or family history of hair fall. Hormonal changes, traumatic events (chronic illness or surgery), any underlying medical condition such as thyroid or lupus, and certain treatment procedures like chemotherapy can lead to hair fall in due course of time. While shedding a few strands of hair is considered normal, losing large volumes of hair more often than not can lead to permanent hair loss.

Dandruff- Dandruff is undoubtedly the most unsightly among all other conditions. It is even more embarrassing for people having dark hair. These appear as white powdered grains that cling to the roots of the hair. Dandruff often results from poor diet, poor metabolism, or dry scalp. This condition is more common in winters.

Split ends- Split ends are witnessed when the edges of your hair become brittle, dry and frayed. Exposure to extreme weather conditions can leave your hair damaged. Many people fall for hair styling techniques including blow drying, straightening and smoothening. They certainly make you look good, but frequent use of such hair styling techniques and the related chemical products damage your hair follicles. Almost everyone encounters split ends at some point in life. The only way to get rid of split ends is to trim your hair every 3-4 months.

People need to understand that applying any kind of oil or shampoo on one’s hair would only be external applications and will not lead to nourishment internally, no matter how much they boast of doing so through their advertisements. This is where Homeopathy comes to the rescue, which would help them in internal medication.

Role of homeopathy in curing hair problems-
Homeopathy can proficiently manage the symptoms of various hair problems including hair fall, dandruff and split ends. Homeopathic remedies are extracted from different plants, herbs and natural substances that are absolutely safe for you. This branch of medicine attempts to improve your metabolism and heal your digestive disorders, thereby promoting healthy hormones. Homeopathy medications or supplements prepared from the extracts of shellfish and oyster are rich in zinc. Consuming 30g of zinc can help in the synthesis of hair keratin. Flaxseed oil and fish oil used in homeopathy treatment are excellent sources of Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids not only prevent hair fall and breakage but also nourish your hair follicles, thereby promoting lush, healthy hair. Make sure you intake 2 capsules of these homeopathy supplements. Let's read how homeopathy works-

  1. Root Cause: No matter whether it is hairfall, dandruff or split ends, initially a patient needs to talk about the history of how all of these problems had started. The reasons could be:
    • Physical in nature, like some fever in an intermittent manner, which gets traced back to child-birth, lactational phase
    • Patient needs to be very particular and detailed about telling the circumstances that might have led to the problems, for the homeopathic doctor to understand.
    • Now, once the doctor gets a clear picture of the cause, he or she gives the appropriate homeopathic medicine and its dosage as per requirement.
  2. Internal Factors: Internal factors are referred to as a constitutional factor in homeopathy. A homeopath understands your internal issues and prescribe medicines accordingly.
    • Every individual is born with certain qualities. Those qualities need to be identified and treated as per the physical and mental characteristic symptoms of the patient.
    • It is important to ask certain questions starting from childhood to be able to identify any unknown cause that might have been the cause behind these problems.

Homeopathy remedies and medicines thus rectify the underlying causes of hair problems. The main objective of the treatment is to eliminate the root of the problem. So, the next time you face hair problems, instead of going for hair styling treatments, opt for homeopathic intervention.
