How PRP Therapy Can Help Manage Hair Fall?

PRP is a latest, state of the art technology that employs non-surgical methods to stimulate hair growth in case of hair loss.

Advancements in research have enabled scientists to make new inroads in the field of wound and tissue healing. The result of these researches is PRP, which is a natural way to rejuvenate your scalp, skin and stimulate your hair growth.

How does PRP Work?

The presence of mesenchymal stem cells and autologous blood products in human blood contain specific growth factors that assist in tissue regeneration and healing. PRP has been used to heal skin and wounds for over two decades now. Apart from this, it finds use in oral surgery, cosmetic surgery and neurosurgery as well. It is also the promising treatment to promote hair growth.

Benefits:

  • It is a progressive healing treatment that doesn't require surgery.
  • Simple, rapid and highly effective system.
  • Autologous (from patient's own blood).
  • The system is biocompatible and xeno-free, so there shouldn't be any safety concerns.
  • An increase in the concentration of platelets can be observed.
  • It helps in the elimination of undesired erythrocytes, which significantly decrease the fibroblast proliferation.
  • Contains growth factors that help in the stimulation of growth of the hair follicles.
  • Can be performed preoperatively, intraoperatively, or post operatively.

PRP Facial (Vampire Facial)
The vampire facial involves topical application of the PRP combined with aeration of the skin with Micro Needling. The platelet-derived growth factors stimulate a healing response that reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while improving the skin’s tone and texture. PRP naturally improves all aspects of skin health:

  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improves skin’s texture and tone
  • Naturally increases collagen production
  • Pore refinement
  • Creates a natural glow
  • Reduces acne scars

PRP Hair Restoration
PRP Hair Restoration is a non-surgical solution for hair loss in both men and women. Platelet Rich Plasma contains growth factors that naturally stimulate the development of new hair follicles while improving the health of existing hair follicles.

What to expect:
First, a blood sample is obtained and processed to extract the Platelet Rich Plasma. A topical anesthetic is applied to numb the area being treated. The PRP is then administered with a fine needle in a series of injections on the scalp.

Mild swelling and redness can be expected 1-2 days following the treatment. It is recommended to avoid vigorous activity until the swelling has subsided. There is no other downtime following the procedure. New hair growth can be seen as early as 2 months, but is typically evident between 5-8 months and will continue to improve up to a year after treatment.

Who should Not Have PRP treatment?

Those with heavy drug and smoking issue should avoid PRP. Also, those who drink a lot of alcohol should avoid PRP. Those suffering from platelets related ailments, sepsis, chronic liver disease, thrombocytopenia, hyperfibrinogenemia, systemic disorders and cancer should also stay away from PRP.

Conclusion

At length, PRP is a boon for all those who aren't fans of surgery or the ones who prefer a more aggressive but non-surgical approach for treatment to their ailments. The results might vary from patient to patient, but it is certainly one of the most promising technologies to stimulate hair growth and rejuvenate your skin, and the results are quite convincing. So decide wisely!

Stress-Induced Hair Fall - How Can It Be Managed?

There is ample evidence to suggest the fact that anxiety or stress and the problem of hair loss are indeed related. The relationship between the two, despite being a complex one, can be easily established. If you’re worrying too much about how the rate of hair loss in your case has seemingly multiplied, then it’s time that you stop over-thinking. Your anxieties are contributing significantly to the condition itself. Hair-fall owing to excessive stress may occur anytime within the 6 weeks to 4 months time period that follows an event that might cause extreme pressure on you, psychologically or otherwise.

However, it is imperative to remember that it is a rare possibility for acute hair-fall to occur in case your anxiety is less than severe. Stress triggers a plethora of conditions that effectively contribute to hair loss, the most common ones being:

  • Telogen Effluvium: The most frequently observed condition wherein more amount of hair than what is considered normal prepares to fall off.
  • Alopecia Areata: Sudden increment in a fall of large clumps of your hair around the scalp.
  • Trichotillomania: This is an otherwise habitual condition led by anxiety and stress wherein the person affected pulls out his hair without even realizing it himself.

The good news is that for those who suffer from anxiety induced hair-fall is that, the problem isn’t a permanent one. If anxiety and stress are the conditions that have triggered this problem, then best results might be achieved by implementing measures to reduce the stress causing factors. However, ensure that you’re addressing this problem properly and directly so that a fall or reduction may be observed in both your anxiety levels as well as your hair-fall problems.

There are several quick fixes that go a long way in contributing to the correction of this condition:

  • Meditation aids in altering your brain’s neural pathways, thereby improving and strengthening your resilience towards stress.
  • Connecting with your loved ones more often helps you relax and heal emotionally, significantly lowering your anxiety levels.
  • Music that soothes the senses, calms down your nerves, and lowers the blood pressure levels, helps in alleviating the effects of a stressful living.
  • It is vital to keep in mind the fact that a healthy lifestyle and regular exercising go a long way in keeping your health intact-whether it be securing your tresses or lowering your anxieties.

Hair fall and baldness can hamper your self-confidence and push you to a pessimistic and gloomy world of hopelessness. Your hair is the x-factor that influences your personality and sets you apart from others. But, what should you do to tackle hair loss and boost hair growth? Well, there are several ways to get rid of this problem. There are several home based remedies to stop hair fall and enhance growth of hair. Some of these remedies have been listed below:

  1. Fenugreek: You might be surprised to know that the seeds of fenugreek contain hormone antecedents. These help in repair of hair follicles. The seeds are also rich in nicotinic acid that promotes growth of hair. Fenugreek seeds should be soaked in water overnight and then make a paste by grinding them. This paste should be applied on the scalp and left for about 30 minutes. The paste should then be rinsed off with only water, avoid application of shampoo or any other cleaning agent.
  2. Aloe Vera: It is a very useful home remedy in tackling issues related to the hair. It helps in maintain and restoring the pH balance of the scalp. It has a slightly alkaline property. Gel formed out of aloe vera is also helpful in getting rid of dandruff. The gel should be applied to the scalp for 45 minutes and then washed with water. This treatment must be followed for at least twice or thrice a week for best results.
  3. Oil massage: Insufficient supply of nutrients to the hair can lead to loss of hair. Therefore, it is always a wise idea to massage the scalp with hot oil to provide enough nutrients to the scalp and improve the flow of blood in the head. It is usually recommended to massage the scalp and hair strands with oil rich in vitamin E, such as olive oil, coconut oil or almond oil for 45 minutes. Thereafter, you can wash away the excess oil by applying shampoo.
  4. Coconut milk: It is rich in fats and proteins. It helps in the growth of hair and prevents loss. For best results, grind the coconut pulp to get milk out of it and then apply it to the scalp and hairs. Leave the milk for over 30 minutes and then wash it off with shampoo for preventing thinning of hairs.
  5. Diet plan: You need to take care of your diet first in order to add volume to your hairs. Include vegetables rich in iodine like nori, dulse, kombu and wakame in your meals. Iodine helps in proper functioning of the thyroid gland and quite essential for healthy hair. Fatty acids are also essential for hair growth. It is advised to consume adequate amounts of nuts, fish and avocados for healthy hairs.

Lifestyle Changes-

  1. Along with a healthy hair diet, it is important that you exercise properly as it will ensure that there is proper blood flow to your scalp and will help in the growth of hair.
  2. Treat your hair delicately. Avoid unnecessary brushing, combing or handling. Use a soft, round bristles brush.
  3. Have a weekly scalp massage to provide stimulation to the hair follicles.
  4. Have regular trims to eliminate split ends and allow the hair to look and feel healthier.
  5. Get plenty of rest and sleep to allow your body to grow hair.

Hair Fall - Reasons You Must Know & Keep Them In Check!

Each one of us loses hair some way or another. It happens every day and is considered to be quite normal. While you wash your hair or you blow dry it, some amount of hair loss is pretty much routine. It is said, on an average, that one loses 50-100 strands of hair in a day. However, if you observe hair fall that exceeds the normal average, it may be a cause of concern.

Causes of hair-fall and ways to deal with It
Finding the root cause of hair fall can be tricky, since, most of the hair fall cases are not associated with any systemic illness or medical condition. Hair may simply thin out, owing to the predetermined genetic factors and age. However, hair loss can also be an indication of an underlying medical problem that needs quick treatment and action. Here are 5 causes of hair loss and ways to deal with them:

  1. Use of Excessive Heat: Heat weakens the hair follicles. Use of excessive heat and blow drying weakens your hair and makes them brittle causing them to fall out. Uncurbed use of straightening irons, hot curlers and brushes have this effect on your hair. It is always best to let your hair dry out naturally.
  2. Chemical Treatments: Treatments such as permanent straightening or chemical curling can damage your hair and scalp. It breaks your hair bonds and reforms them in a different way to make them permanently straight or curled. This contributes to weakening of your hair, making it not just rough and dull but also brittle. With time, dull and brittle hair progresses towards hair loss.
  3. Dyes and Colors: Frequent use of colors on your hair increases the chances of hair loss. Hair colors have chemicals in them which cause serious damage to your hair. Avoid coloring your hair more than once in four or six weeks.
  4. Poor Diet: Poor diet is an important contributor to hair loss. Binging on junk food and too much caffeine can also be a cause of hair fall. Include lots of leafy greens and fresh fruits and keep yourself hydrated to avoid a dry scalp and subsequent hair fall.
  5. Underlying Medical Condition: There can be a chance that you are experiencing hair fall due to an underlying illness or medical condition. Eat healthy and get a medical check-up done periodically to assess your health and keep yourself free of disease.

Before you press the panic button and try over-the-counter drugs for your hair fall, it is best to speak to your physician and understand the best treatment options.

Alopecia Areata - 5 Effective Ayurvedic Treatments Of It!

A disorder leading to the loss of hair that is triggered by a mistakenly attacked immune system on the follicles of hair is termed as Alopecia areata. The hair follicles are the source of hair growth, and they are prone to be attacked by various environmental factors. The damage undergone by the hair follicles is usually not of a permanent nature. Hair growth is observed to occur for in a normal cycle ranging from 1 to 5 years. The rate of growth of hair is approximately 1 cm per month during the growth phase.

At any given point of time during the growth phase, around 80-85 percent of the hair present on the scalp are growing. The remaining hair is in a resting period, which usually falls of after 2-3 months. On a daily basis, around 50 to 70 hair may fall off from the scalp. This hair fall is considered to be normal as it is a part of the resting period cycle. But when the daily count of hair fall increases, then consulting a physician is recommended.

If the physician diagnoses a genetic balding pattern, then it is due to the inability of the follicles to produce new hair. Excessive hair loss does not cause genetic balding. Hair fall affects both males and females, with a significant rise observed with increasing age. The inherited type of hair fall pattern is observed more commonly in males than females.

Balding pattern of males involves loss of hair on the anterior scalp region. Most men lose a significant amount of hair by the time they are 60 years of age. The most common cause of balding in men is the gene-related pattern baldness. They inherit this trait of balding. In this condition, visible hair loss is observed at a very young age, which develops into extensive loss of hair. The loss of hair is preceded by a receding hair line which later turns into baldness on the top of the head.

In women, inherited pattern of baldness can cause a generalized thinning of hair over the scalp.

Etiology – Alopecia areata renders the hair follicles an inability to produce hair. Lack of hair production in the affected area can cause bald patches on the person’s scalp. Currently there are no confirmatory tests available to find the exact cause of this condition. Heredity has been implicated as the known causative factor of alopecia. Other factor that may play a role in causing baldness are environmental factors, chronic illnesses, long-term medications, dysfunction of the thyroid gland, nutritional disorders and deficiencies, anxiety, stress, chronic depression, pregnancy and skin diseases.

According to Ayurveda, hair fall is a ‘shirorog, and is termed as ‘khalitya’. The treatment protocol for Alopecia areata according to Ayurveda is as follows:

1. Pacification of the pitta: This treatment is considered to be an effective method for enhancement of a person’s the digestive system. it is helpful in the elimination of toxins from the body using potent herbal medicines.

2. Oil massage therapy:  Medicated herbal hair oil containing Jasminum grandifolium is found to very effective in treating baldness when massaged on the scalp with light circular motion regularly.

3. Panchakarma: This treatment involves the use of five remedies for a complete cleansing process of the body. Among the five remedies of Panchakarma, the ‘shirodhara’ therapy that comprises of a head massage with medicated oil is considered to be very helpful in hair follicle stimulation.

4. Nasya therapy: This treatment therapy involves the administration of medicines through the nasal route. Clearance of the impurities from the nasal route is achieved through this method.

5. Balanced diet: A balanced diet that is based on Ayurvedic principles of food intake is considered to play the most important role in treating Alopecia. Elimination of certain foods is recommended, while certain foods are advised to be eaten on a routine basis. Green leafy vegetables, pulses, lentils, seeds, nuts should be increased in the diet intake.

Know The Reasons Behind Hair Fall!

A normal human being loses 50 to 100 hairs on a daily basis, but it doesn’t make thinning of scalp hair noticeable because new hair is growing in at the same time. Visible hair loss occurs when the cycle of hair shedding and growth is disrupted or when the hair follicle is damaged and scar tissue is formed.

Hair loss can be attributed to four main factors, namely heredity, changes in hormones, medical conditions and finally medication. The hereditary condition known as pattern baldness is the most common reason of hair loss. It occurs gradually and with a receding hairline and bald spots in predictable patterns in men and thinning hair in women. Heredity dictates the age when one begins to shred hair, extent of baldness and finally the rate of hair loss. Among men, pattern baldness is common whereas in women, hair loss occurs in form of thinning of hair.

Hair loss can also be triggered by hormonal changes and imbalances during pregnancy, childbirth, onset of menopause and thyroid problems. Patchy hair loss or alopecia areata occurs when the human body's immune system attacks and damages hair follicles causing hair loss and leave behind smooth bald patches on the skin. Scalp infection like ringworm leads to scaly patches and hair loss. Skin disorders like lichen planus, sarcoidosis and trichotillomania causes people to have an irresistible urge to pull out their hair, whether it's from the scalp or other areas of the body.

Excessive use of hairstyling tools like iron curlers and products like gels, mousse, sprays and colours damage the hair and prolonged usage can hamper its growth. Hairstyles which pulls one’s hair tight like pigtails or cornrows cause traction alopecia. Hot oil hair treatments cause inflammation of hair follicles leading to hair loss.

Medicated drugs for arthritis, depression, cancer, hypertension and even birth control increase the rate of hair loss. As the hair is made of keratin which is a protein, if one has a protein deficiency, then the chances are that the hair will be brittle. Crash dieting and losing a lot of weight too quickly has an adverse effect on hair growth, because these diets deprive body of essential nutrients which impact hair growth.
Psoriasis and Diabetes responsible for loss of hair. Diabetes affects the body’s circulatory system due to which less amount of nutrients and oxygen reach the feet and the scalp areas due to which the hair follicles get damaged. Psoriasis is a skin disease which affects the scalp and hair follicles leading to red bald patches.

If one notices thinning of hair, it is best to get checked for any underlying condition which could be causing the hair loss.
