yes you can take,add on other protein food also like pulses or paneer or Egg or chicken if non vegetarian as seems to be underweight.

You need to eat smaller more frequent meals. Let eating be a pure activity. Avoid late nights and very late dinners. Avoid strong flavours and odours in food. Avoid excessive tea and coffee.
Have a teaspoon of roasted cumin seeds powder before meals.
Exercise daily to improve appetite.

if he has permanent problem of cold he should precautions. Some tips for you* take ginger & turmeric mix with honey before food
* take ajvayan & jeera 1 tsp each after each meal* take hot water only* eat less then of your hunger. Take fast. It will help you for less cough production* avoid day sleep, stress, night awaking* start excersice.
