Dear Lybrateuser,
- give rest to limb
- apply pain relief gel three times a day
- take pain relief tablet, brufen, 1 tablet three times a day after meals
- apply ice pack for 5-10 min on affected area to reduce pain
- get x-ray of affected area done to rule out any bony problem.

Apply ice in the painful area which would definitely help to greater extent. And you can wear elbow brace which would help you to keep your elbow warm and will give you protection.

If your pain is more in the proximal joints, ie. In the upper limbs if the pain is present in the fingers/wrist and in the lower limbs it the pain is present in the toes/ ankle, then we shall definitely say it is rheumatic arthritis.
