Warm salt water is an effective remedy for treating infections caused by belly button piercing. Heat from the warm water increases flow of blood to the infected area whereas salt helps absorb moisture to boost healing. Besides, it acts as a wonderful disinfectant.

The virus is actually quite fragile, and can survive only 10 to 20 minutes in direct sunlight, but may live for up to two hours in saliva on an animal's coat. It is readily inactivated by heat, sunlight, detergent and disinfectants.
