Mr. Lybrate-user, if you are maintaining blood sugar levels in good control, then you can definitely start any exercise which you like. Swimming is good, it will help in burning a good amount of calories. Hence, it will also help controlling blood sugar. Exercises like walking, jogging, aerobics and running all are good. But which one to take up depends on ones ability. Thanks.

if he is suffering form dm t2, then to suggest any diet I need to know fasting and pp sugar levels, present dietary pattern, hba1c% and extent of daily exercise, current treatment with dosage. Without those details it is not possible to give a diet plan as it is highly individualised. In the mean time he should: 1) avoid sweets completely, 2) avoid deep fried foods, junk foods and pastries. 3) avoid sweetened aerated drinks, fructose corn syrup containing products & highly processed products. 4)...more

Hi librate user, nice to hear from you, to avoid getting diabetes you should keep a watch on your diet, exercise and body weight. If you don't have diabetes in your family, if you are eating healthy food and doing regular exercise and maintaining your weight, there are very little chances you will get diabetes.
Regular exercise should include cycling/ swimming/ brisk walking / jogging / any other outdoor sports activity for at least 30-40 minutes per day, 6 days per week.
Thank you.
