This medicine (proton pump inhibitor (ppi).) will not cure problem. It only works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach. The day you do not take medicine normal acid production will be there n you will have symptoms.

At your age, flu shot is beneficial. You may take a quadrivalent flu vaccine (any company. Make sure it is manufactured in 2021.
You can take one shot of ppsv23 vaccine since you are >65 years of age. This is however not recommended for adults <65 yeras with no comornbidities, so depending on your wifes age and health status, you can decide.
