Gynecomastia surgery takes about an hour or two to complete the entire procedure. It may, however, depend on the amount of tissue to be removed. Small incision is made by your doctor to perform the surgery and is performed under general anesthesia. Surgery takes about 1 to 2 weeks of time in recovery.

Hi lybrate-user, gynecomastia, the appearance of large male breasts, generally results from an imbalance of the sex hormones estrogen and testosterone. This can be the results of life changes, such as hitting puberty or middle-age, prescription medications, drug use, or illness. Please mention your son's height and weight also.

In the majority of cases, gynecomastia goes on its own and it does not require any treatment. There are, however, surgery options available if the symptoms become severe. Surgery includes liposuction (breast fat is removed without removing the breast gland tissue), and mastectomy (breast gland tissue is removed by making small incisions. This involves less recovery time).
