Yes you can if you want, but there is no point getting fixed retainer after 3 years. Retainers should be placed immediately after completion of your treatment. It is to retain your teeth in the new position. If you get them after 6 moths also, there is no point. NOT ADVISABLE and NO POINT getting retainers after a lag period following your ortho treatment.

You need to wear retainers for 9 months post braces 3 to 6 months 24 hours that is to be removed only while eating food .rest you need to wear it on regular basis.
