Once it gets developed into tartar, removal requires root planning and scaling of teeth. Dental surgery may also be required to check gum disease. The methods of stopping bleeding gums would require you to visit the dentist at regular intervals for dental check-up, using a soft toothbrush, brushing teeth properly at least two times a day for two minutes. You must also try to brush your teeth after every meal so that every bit of food is washed out each time food is chewed. Not just brushing but proper flossing must also be done to flush out impurities from the mouth. Bleeding can controlled by using cold compress on the bleeding area. Rinsing mouth with saline water and hydrogen peroxide also helps clean the mouth thoroughly. Mouthwashes containing alcohol must be avoided to prevent drying up of mouth. Development of plaque can also be prevented by avoiding smoking as smoking worsens bleeding gums. Dentists may recommend you to use ‘water pick’ an oral irrigation device that helps in cleaning the mouth of any debris. If there are dentures, they must fit appropriately so that they do not harm the gums.
