Hi lybrate-user,
you might be suffering from depression, anxiety, or even icd. Insomnia on its own, is a very rare condition.
You must consult with a psychiatrist, who can address the cause for your insomnia and advice appropriate treatment.
Good luck.

You are treating sleep symptomatically. You have not treated the cause of the sleep disturbance. Medicines as well as psychotherapy, depending upon your preference can be used to treat the cause. Medicines, if you wish, can be given as it is cheaper and less time consuming than psychotherapy. the medicines I am referring to are not addictive contrary to the sleep medicines you are reporting. As is obvious, a detailed evaluation will be needed before these measures are undertaken. Take care!

Having disturbing dreams so frequently, that you so vividly remember is suggestive of a disturbed sleep pattern and distorted sleep architecture. This may occur due to various reasons.
Also having similar dreams so often suggests an underlying psychological issue which needs attention and management.
Consult a psychiatrist for evaluation and management.
