Piles - Know More About Its Causes!

What causes Piles?

Piles are most often caused due to excessive strain on the anal canal. Increase in pressure may cause them to swell and enlarge in size. Chronic constipation has been identified as the most common cause of piles. However, there are various other factors that can trigger the condition:-

  • Imbalanced Diet that contains low-fiber- can be a primary reason for Hemorrhoid. Lack of fibers causes strain during bowel movements which further leads to a rise in pressure on the blood vessels causing them to swell and rupture.
  • Pregnancy- as the enlarging uterus may create excessively
  • pressure on the anus and rectum.
  • Hormonal Changes
  • Sedentary Lifestyle
  • Obesity
  • Dysentery
  • Genetics
  • Heavyweight lifting
  • Colon Cancer
  • Rectal Surgery in the past

Treatment for Piles

Though modern medicines are helpful in curing Piles, they often suppress the disease and provide a superficial treatment, thus causing the disease to recur. In such a situation, Ayurveda comes up as the best solution to cure the disease of its roots and help you get rid of it permanently. Ayurveda treats Piles as a digestive disorder which results due to the collection of Ama (toxins) in the anal canal and impairment of the digestive fire. The treatment thus focuses on rebalancing the three energies or doshas ( Vata, Pitta, Kapha) through the intake of pure natural herbal medication, gentle massages, alteration in food habits and a change in lifestyle.

Anal Fistula - Why Is Graded Ksharsutra Therapy Better Than Surgery/VAAFT?

Anal Fistula - Why Is Graded Ksharsutra Therapy Better Than Surgery/VAAFT?

Anal fistula presents itself as a nodular swelling in perianal region. Off and on pus discharge is also seen from this swelling. When pus gets accumulated it gives rise to pain which subsides once the pus discharges out. Usually surgery (Fistulectomy/ VAAFT/ MAFT/ Laser etc.) is advised to manage Anal Fistula. But it is not a good choice as the chances of recurrence of Fistula are very high after these procedures. Whereas Anal Fistula can be completely treated by Graded KsharsutraTM Treatment.

Clinical trials conducted by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) at AIIMS - New Delhi and PGI - Chandigarh; have confirmed that Ksharsutra treatment is more convenient and more effective than surgery in patients suffering from Anal Fistula.

What is Graded KsharsutraTM Therapy? How does it Works?

The Ksharsutra therapy is a specialized procedure of Ayurvedic surgery. Ayurvedic surgeon has to first evaluate the anal fistula by clinical examination and if required MRI Fistulogram may be done. Graded KsharsutraTM treatment involves the use of a specialized medicated thread which is placed in Fistula tract. Before placing the Graded KsharsutraTM; it is mandatory to define the fistulous tract properly by careful probing and MRI Fistulogram.

Medicine released from Graded KsharsutraTM debrides the fistula tract and induces healing. This medicine works for 5-7 days. So, old Ksharsutra needs to be replaced by a new one at a week or 10 days interval till fistula heals completely.

Why Graded KsharsutraTM Therapy Better Than Surgery/VAAFT?

• In appox. 20% cases fistula recurs after surgery however chances of recurrence of Fistula after Graded KsharsutraTM Therapy are predictably NIL.

• Fistula surgery is done under spinal or general anesthesia. So, anesthesia related complications like headache, backache, effect on brain, urinary retention etc. are usually seen while Graded KsharsutraTM is done under local anesthesia which is comparatively safe and there is no complication in it.

• Complications like stool incontinence (inability to hold stool) etc. are seen in surgery. Such complications are not seen in Graded KsharsutraTM Therapy.

• Other complications like pain, bleeding, infection etc. are also seen after surgery. There is no fresh tissue injury in Graded KsharsutraTM so such complications are not seen.

• Hospitalization is necessary in surgery for Anal Fistula. However, Graded KsharsutraTM Therapy is an OPD procedure and hospitalization is not necessary.

• Surgery is followed by bed rest. Bed rest is not required in Graded KsharsutraTM Therapy and patient can continue his normal daily routine activities as usual during this treatment.

• Graded KsharsutraTM Treatment is also more economical and convenient than Surgery.

Therefore, patients suffering from Anal Fistula are advised to SAY NO TO SURGERY and opt for a better treatment i.e. Graded KsharsutraTM.

Ayurveda has perfect surgical techniques which can help you root out this problem without leaving any chances of recurrence.

Kshar Sutra is basically an ayurvedic parasurgical treatment that involves management of Anorectal disorders for treating Fistula-in-Ano. The technique is minimally invasive in nature. Following are some of the tips related to the Ayurvedic Management & Kshar Sutra in Fistula-in-Ano:

Safe and Extremely Cost-Effective: This type of surgery uses a thread, also known as Kshar Sutra, especially prepared by herbal chemical cauterization. Cauterization is the medical practice of getting part of the body burnt, for either removing or closing off a particular part to cure diseases like Fistula-in-Ano. Hence, people can safely go for this treatment procedure because there is absolutely no risk element involved. Moreover, as the use of thread is involved in treating the problem, so basically, the minimum expense is involved. So, patients need not pay much.

Customized Treatment: Usually, three kinds of Kshar Sutra get used, depending upon the number of coatings and the quality of materials implemented. Coatings are created with ayurvedic herbs and treatment for each and every patient takes place in a customized manner depending upon their individual requirements.

Can Get Rid of Other Disorders: While undergoing the Kshar Sutra treatment for Fistula-in-Ano, patients are even routinely investigated with a special type of reference for any other associated disorder like Hypertension, Tuberculosis, Diabetes Mellitus etc.

So, Kshar Sutra not only helps people to get relief from the problem of Fistula-in-Ano but also assists in getting rid of other associated problems.

  • Maintenance of Diet as Part of Ayurvedic Management: Those patients, who suffer from the painful disease of Fistula-in- Ano, Ayurveda instructs them to maintain a healthy diet in the form of fruits and vegetables. On the contrary, they must avoid the excess amount of spicy foods, along with items that cause constipation and even make sure to not have too much of garlic, chillies and potato.
  • Keep Yourself Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water is extremely essential as this helps to clear off the channels and also allow people to flush off stools and toxins from the body.

Anal Fissure - How Ayurvedic Remedies Helps in Treating It

A tear in the anal canal is called anal fissure. When the skin breaks, it can cause pain and extreme discomfort. Some amount of bleeding during defecation may also be experienced. When the anal aperture is over-strained, it results in a crack leading to a fissure. In women, delivery trauma can lead to anal fissure. Ulcer in the anal canal or sexually transmitted diseases too can cause the anal fissure.

Ayurvedic Treatment for Anus Fissure

In children, it is commonly due to injury by passing hard stool. The fissure is usually seen at the anal verge. This being a highly sensitive area; any scratch or tear in this area gives excruciating pain, burning, itching, irritation like symptoms. There may be spasm in the anal region (which is a protective mechanism) and the patients are scared of passing stools. Sometimes the patient avoids eating food so as to avoid going to the toilet.

Usually, the pain subsides in an hour or so. However in some conditions where there is underlying inflammation and infection; the pain may persist the whole day. Recurrent anal fissure which has not been treated properly gives rise to extra skin growth known as sentinel tag.

Ayurvedic Medicine for Anus Fissure

In the patient suffering from Anal fissure; it is very important to regulate the bowel habits properly. Some mild laxatives may be used to soften the stool. Hot sitz bath and use of some soothing ointments, coconut oil, ghee, etc. are helpful as they avoid the irritation. Ayurveda can completely cure people suffering from anal fissures problem. The treatment duration of the anal fissure in Ayurveda differs from one individual to another.

Ayurveda treatment is also based on the severity of the disease. In acute anal fissure; the allopathic doctors usually recommend surgery. The commonest adverse effect of surgery is incontinence where the patient is unable to hold stools. However acute anal fissure can be treated without surgery very effectively using Ayurvedic Kshar Karma. In this therapy; certain ayurvedic medicines are applied in the anal fissure so as to promote healing.

The sittings are repeated after weekly intervals and fissure heals in 3-4 sittings. In this way; this is a highly specific, very effective, and convenient ayurvedic method of treating anal fissure. In chronic anal fissure with associated Sentinel tag; Ksharsutra ligation is used to remove the tag followed by Kshar Karma sittings. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Hi, I have been recently diagnosed with multiple calculi in my left kidney. And the largest one is of 17 mm. Should I go for surgery (as doctors have suggested) or shall I wait to see the effect of ayurvedic medicines which I am eating now. Banana with camphor is what I have been taking till now. Are there chances of getting the stone dissolved, there is no pain now in my abdominal region.

I have been recently diagnosed with multiple calculi in my left kidney. And the largest one is of 17 mm.
Should I...
Stone size is big. It won't dissolve. Camphor causes slow poisoning like lead/arsenic. Should not take that. You should undergo ESWL or PCNL. Since there are multiple stones PCNL will be better. PCNL is a key hole endoscopic surgery. You can consult me or any urologist regarding this. Thanks.
