While some couples can get pregnant on the first night, others may try to conceive a child for years unsuccessfully. The inability to conceive a child while having well-timed, unprotected sexual intercourse for over a year is known as infertility. Such cases, the man or woman may be said to be sterile. In the case of male sterility, this could be caused by an absence of sperm in the semen or low-quality sperm cells.

According to Ayurveda, this may be caused by stress, overindulgence in sexual activities, suppressing sexual urges, an unhealthy diet, and lifestyle, and consumption of nicotine, alcohol, and drugs. There are a number of ayurvedic remedies that can help treat this condition. Ayurvedic remedies are based on a combination of medication and lifestyle changes. Here are a few things that could help.

  1. Eat the Right Food: Sour and bitter foods should not be consumed by people suffering from sterility. You should also avoid pungent and salty foods. Instead, have foods that are sweet and astringent. Milk, butter, ghee, eggs, and meat should be included in your diet. Dried fruits such as dates, almonds, walnuts, and raisins can also be beneficial.
  2. Follow a Healthy Lifestyle: To treat conditions such as sterility, you should try and maintain a regular schedule. Begin by waking up and going to bed at the same time each day. Restrain your sexual activity. Intercourse should be timed to match your partner’s menstruation cycle and avoided at other times.
  3. Practice Yoga: Yoga can help improve sperm motility. Certain yoga asanas help stimulate the endocrine system responsible for the production and dispensing of hormones. It also stimulates blood flow in the pelvic area and makes the hip joints stronger and more flexible. Some asanas that can help treat sterility are the pigeon pose, surya namaskar, dancing pose and the revolved triangle. In addition, yoga can also boost the immune system and keep infections from affecting your fertility. Pelvic floor exercises can also help optimize sexual organ functionality.
  4. Herbal Aids: Ayurvedic remedies are derived from natural herbs and have negligible side effects. Some of the herbal aids you could benefit from include Shilajit, Safed Musli, Kawach and Ashwagandha. These herbs rejuvenate the reproductive system and increase energy. Some of these herbs are also responsible for boosting a man’s libido. Apart from the consumption of these herbs, herbal oils could also be massaged into the body.
