It appears that you mother has chronic mild depression and left untreated along with a depressive personality disorder, has taken on a huge cost on your family. I also believe that there are instances where you are able to make her happy and she compares herself to others and becomes sad. Seems there is an inherent issue in your serotnergic transmission in the mind (brain), hence meds work and on stopping symptoms relapse. You have to make up your mind in regular continuous treatment like diabetes, hypertension etc. Also face the weight issues of medications with strict dietary schedule and life style modification. Dear sir,
medicines are not the only solution to depression and anxiety, having said that I do not imply you stopping them but along with it there are other solutions such as yoga, breathing exercises, deep realxation techniques etc and yes ofcourse psychotherapy being the most important.
During the session of counseling the reasons of anxiety and depression will be assessed, the severity will be gauged and an appropriate treatment plan will be charted out.

Dear user if you donât want to take medication for life time then please wake up yourself, medicines are not a perfect solution for mental health, you have to work on your own, your will power, your mind and thoughts. You are too young. But due to certain reasons if you are on antidepressants you have to take some extra care of yourself. You are being treated for depression and social phobia but you don't say for how long. Treating this condition with medication only will not suffice. Please consult with a counselor for methods of coping with your problems. Your phobia and anxiety are likely causing loneliness.
