House Dust Mite Allergy - How To Detect It?

Dust mites belong to a family of ticks and spiders, and cannot be seen through bare eyes. They thrive in places which are warm and humid.

Dust mite allergies are the most common type of allergy found in many people. Patients suffering from house dust mite allergies may also face sneezing and a runny nose. The symptoms are just the same as Asthma.

The best way to get rid of dust mite allergies is to make the house as much dust free as possible.

In case a person is attacked by any of these dust mites, doctors may also suggest some medicines to suppress the symptoms and ease the condition.

Symptoms of House Dust Mite Allergy:

House dust mite allergy causing inflammation in the nasal passages may show signs like:

  1. Watery eyes

  2. Runny nose

  3. Redness in the eyes

  4. Sneezing

  5. Congestion

  6. Facial itching

  7. Redness and skin spores opening

  8. Face infection

If the allergy is contributing to Asthma, the following signs are observed:

  1. Difficulty in breathing

  2. Heaviness in the chest

  3. Chest pain

  4. Wheezing sound with cough and cold

  5. Shortness of breath

The signs of a house dust mite allergy can be severe in some cases. However, allergies are not life-threatening, but prolonged symptoms may affect health. A mild allergy-like runny nose or sneezing are common. However, if a person is suffering from symptoms for a more extended period of time, he/she should consult an ENT specialist for the same.

Diagnose of House Dust Mite Allergy:

To diagnose this type of allergy, doctors check the patient physically and if the patient has problems persistently round the year, then he/she may be advised to take an allergy test. Allergy tests consist of skin prick tests and blood tests.

  1. Skin Prick Test: Skin Prick Test, or SPT, is not a conclusive test for every patient. The doctors determine the result by comparing the conditions. In SPT, the doctors put a small drop of possible allergen on the skin and prick the skin with a needle to see the reaction. If a person is allergic to the allergen, he/she may observe a wheal, itching, or redness in the area. However, the doctors determine the results based upon the time and place of the symptoms he/she is complaining of.
  2. Blood Test: Blood test is an excellent tool when the patient cannot give successful skin test. Blood tests are referred by the doctors in the cases when the patient is taking some medicines that interfere with the skin test or to the kids who cannot tolerate skin test. The blood sample is obtained by the doctors, and an allergen is added to the sample. The lab doctors observe whether there is any reaction in the sample due to the allergen.

Treatment:

The best way to fight house dust mite allergy is to avoid allergens. The doctors suggest measures to keep the surrounding dust free and use the covers or sprays that kill dust mites. The dust mites thrive in warm and humid areas. Hence, one should keep the surrounding cool and open to stop their growth. Many patients do not get complete relief from allergies with medicine, and in such cases, doctors provide special therapies and sprays to keep the dust mites away.

Conclusion:

There are many treatment options available depending upon the severity and condition of the allergy. However, it is best to consult a doctor before opting for any treatment or medicines.

Seasonal Ailments - Have Homeopathy At Your Rescue!

In general, seasonal ailments are caused as a result of various types of allergies that are common during certain seasons. The infected individual produces different kinds of symptoms while being exposed to these allergens. These people develop antibodies that have the power to react with the substances naturally found in the environment and cause secretion of the IgE antibodies known as allergens. Thankfully, homoeopathy has several remedial treatments for fighting against these ailments and keeps you fit and fine all around the year.

Common types of allergens
The reaction that causes between the IgE antibodies and allergens leads to the release of various substances, including histamines that cause allergic symptoms in the skin, eyes, nose and chest. There are mainly two types of allergens- seasonal and perennial.

Ailments like hay fever commonly occur during the spring season with the beginning of plant pollination. Plants and grasses are the most common causes during the spring season, and ragweed is mainly responsible for the majority of symptoms caused during autumn. The perennial allergens are those that are responsible for causing diseases all through the year.

Possible diagnosis of seasonal diseases
If the common ailments are left untreated for a long time, these may lead to further complications. Therefore, it is imperative to consult a doctor and opt for the relevant blood tests to determine the presence of IgE antibodies. You may have to perform a skin patch test in case you are suffering from eczema. You could also opt for a skin prick test that includes using a tiny needle for pricking a drop of fluid. If there is a reaction right under the skin, the test result is positive, and you will have to undergo treatment for getting rid of the diseases.

Treatment through homoeopathy
Homeopathy is one of the most favoured holistic treatments that address the root of the problem. It is based on the theory of individualization as well as symptoms with the use of the system of medicine. Homeopathy is the only way by which you can regain a complete state of good health with the uprooting of all the signs as well as symptoms, which you may have been suffering from. This treatment proffers a whole range of medicines that can be administered as per the recommendations of a doctor. You can expect to not only get rid of the allergy but also treat the underlying causes as well as personal susceptibility so that the trouble doesn’t come back in the near future.

Some Common Allergies & Their Homeopathic Treatments!

Allergies can be difficult to handle and may prevent you from leading a normal life. The problem with allergies is the fact that there is no common trigger. Each person may be allergic to a different substance and it is vital for the patient to figure out what triggers the allergies. In severe forms of allergies, patients may become unable to draw breath, which would need them to be hospitalized.

Here is a look at some common causes for the allergies and the symptoms that such allergies may produce.

Causes of Allergy -
Allergy is an autoimmune condition that is caused when the body’s immune system mistakes a foreign object for a harmful substance and attacks it. So, if an individual is allergic to peanuts, their body’s immune system will be on the lookout for the allergen in the blood and will produce antibodies against the same. Common allergens that are known to trigger such a negative reaction inside the body include-

  1. Certain food items
  2. Contact with certain insects and fleas
  3. Airborne allergens
  4. Certain medications
  5. Certain objects that you touch
  6. People with a family history of allergies and asthma are more likely to suffer from such a condition.

Symptoms of Allergy -
The symptoms of allergy sometimes differ based on the trigger for the allergies. However, some symptoms are more common than others.

  1. Sneezing
  2. Inflammation of face and neck
  3. Red and watery eyes
  4. Runny nose
  5. Difficulty in drawing breath
  6. Skin rash
  7. Anaphylaxis

While most of the other symptoms are relatively easy to handle, anaphylaxis or anaphylactic shock may even be fatal in some cases. Anaphylaxis usually results from food allergies and can cause the patient to go into shock. Loss of consciousness, severe breathlessness, nausea and vomiting during an allergy may hint toward anaphylactic shock.

Role of homeopathy against allergies -
Homeopathy bolsters the immune system as a whole and does not try to treat the allergy itself. Homeopathic treatments use natural remedies to treat the condition, which is why there are no chances of side effects from these medications. Topical creams to deal with the skin rash and oral medication to deal with other symptoms are commonly prescribed.

Even though homeopathic treatment takes time to work, it is still a dependable remedy. This branch of medical science believes in like cures like. This means that people allergic to peanuts may be treated by using a diluted form of the same allergen.

Chronic Diseases - How Is Homeopathy Effective In It?

Chronic Diseases - How Is Homeopathy Effective In It?

The human body, like all living forms, goes through a lifecycle. Just as you see a plant from a small tender sapling to a tender tree to an old firm tree to a withering age where the branches grow weak and gradually break off.  The tree finally grows weak, becomes susceptible to attacks by worms and insects, and finally breaks down. The same is true for the human body too. While we always go through acute diseases due to infections, allergies and accidents, there is a bunch of diseases which affect us for longer durations.

These chronic diseases can be due to various reasons - allergic, infective, autoimmune, structural, psychological, physiological, malignant, functional, psychosomatic, iatrogenic and many others.

Homeopathy believes that each chronic disease has its own set of symptoms, many of which are not obvious. It is the entire set of symptoms which need to be unravelled and treated. Homeopathy believes in providing a holistic cure for the patient, not just the disease that is manifested.

With homeopathy, be ready to look at yourself slightly differently and holistically. Not many would believe that a problem in the lungs or the brain could be linked to watery eyes or skin eruptions.  The first discussion with a homeopath could run into a couple of hours covering a wide range of topics including personality type, fears, griefs, weather reactions, food desires, sleep and dream patterns, genetic factors, past sexual life, and a lot of physical/emotional parameters. For someone who is looking for a quick "medicine" to heal the current problem, this may sound absurd and even irritating. For homeopathy to work, it is important for the patient to understand how it aims to work. It takes a lot of patience and duration for the holistic treatment to take effect. The homeopath needs to identify the "direction of cure" based on these and monitor it over a period of time. In the initial phase, there could be an aggravation of symptoms, but that will soon subside. Homeopathy believes in "like treats like," so soon after the treatment begins, there could be increased symptoms in other, perceived non-related parts. The doctor would usually explain what to expect, so watch out for other erupting symptoms and keep your doctor informed.

One thing homeopathy patients vouch for is the pay-off on this patience.  Not many would have relapse of the symptoms as they are cured, not just given palliative care. Homeopathy does cure a lot of diseases, in the true sense of the word.

Slit - New Methods To Treat Your Allergies!

Slit - New Methods To Treat Your Allergies!

Sublingual immunotherapy, abbreviated as SLIT, is a new way to treat allergies by doctors without injections or medication. In this method, doctors do not address the allergies with medicines, in fact, patients are administered with very small doses of allergens to increase tolerance against allergens.

This method of treating allergies is effective as the allergists find it healthy for the patients to outgrow the sensitivity towards the allergies and hence outgrow the condition. With the ongoing studies on this method of treatment and with the recent developments in the field of allergists, sublingual immunotherapy is effective and more sort after the method.

Treatment

Allergists first diagnose the allergy and understand the condition. They perform various tests to confirm the allergies pertaining to the specific or multiple allergens. To verify the degree of sensitivity, doctors use the allergens and check the tolerance level. Then they recommend allergen drops accordingly.

The allergen drops are extracts of allergens that are prescribed to the patients. The patient is advised to take these drops by keeping it under the tongue. It is recommended to keep the drops on the tongue for a few minutes and then swallow it. The course of drops is decided by the doctors, which highly depends upon your sensitivity.

By taking drops of allergens, you develop the immunity gradually, which eventually helps to treat the allergies from the root and there is no need for medicines and injections. The method is also effective for seasonal allergies, allergies from ragweed, and dust mites.

Is it Safe?

Sublingual immunotherapy is used after the detailed study of allergens and its effect on human immune system for 20 years and intense clinical trials. The research proves that SLIT helps treat asthma and rhinitis due to an allergy to dust mites, ragweed, pollen, and grass.

Diseases like rhinitis can be controlled without any medicines with the help of SLIT. During the hay fever season, patients can get the allergy drops and the symptoms of the allergy such as watery eyes and itching can be reduced.

The side effects of allergen drops are very mild. However, the allergens are prescribed to the patients after proper diagnosis. If the allergy is not severe, the same can be treated with mild allergens. The drops are increased after a noticeable decline in the allergy and use of medicine for the disease.

Eye Allergies - Know The Homeopathic Treatment For Them!

Eye Allergies - Know The Homeopathic Treatment For Them!

Eye allergies are characterized by red and itchy eyes which may result from various allergens coming in contact with the eye. Eye allergies can cause swelling of the eyelids, redness in the eyes and may also lead to conjunctivitis. Conventional treatments prescribe eye drops containing chemicals that may aggravate the condition.

Homeopathy-the best natural treatment for eye allergies-

The allopathic system relies mainly on steroids and anti-allergic medicines for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis. Even  then, it is unable to cure the allergy. It only ends up controlling it or keeping the symptoms under check. In homeopathy, the intention is to completely cure the allergy. Homeopathy recognises that the immune system of the body sometimes overreacts to some seemingly harmless things. This overreaction of the body is the root cause of problem.

Therefore, it tries to correct the immune system. In this the medicines that are used by homeopathy are perfectly natural medicines. None of the medicines are chemical in nature. They are made from natural sources like plants or fruits or vegetables or minerals. The basic material is further diluted by a special mechanism which reduces the content of the original matter while increasing its latent healing powers. That is why these natural homeopathic medicines do not have any side effects.

The homeopathic remedies for eye allergies are:

1. Euphrasia

This remedy is used to treat allergies which cause watery discharge from the eyes and which tends to have burning sensation on the skin. The condition tends to aggravate during the evening and in closed spaces.

2. Argentum nitricum

Argentum nitricum is used to treat eye allergies which show symptoms such as aversion to bright light and conjunctiva swelling. The symptoms may be accompanied by gas in the abdomen.

3. Ruta

This is an effective remedy for allergic conjunctivitis where you may experience a constant feeling of something being stuck in the eye. There may also be swelling in the eyelids, redness and continuous watery discharge.

4. Pulsatilla

Pulsatilla is recommended if symptoms such as itchy eyes, yellowish discharge from the eyes and swelling of the eyelids are present. Hot and humid climatic conditions tend to aggravate this.

5. Apis Mel

Apis Mel is another homeopathic remedy that is used to treat eye allergies. Symptoms such as swelling of the eyes, burning sensation and intense pain in the eyes are very common. The symptoms are aggravated by hot weather conditions and direct exposure to the sun.

Allergy Test - What Should You Know?

Allergy Test - What Should You Know?

Allergy is a condition in the human body in which the body reacts to the particles in the environment which are harmless otherwise. These particles are called allergens. Some people have a highly reactive and active immune system. Even a small amount of allergens in the body are identified by the immune system and cause inflammation and reactive conditions in the body. Most of the time it is harmless and does not create a problem. But, if a person is facing problems for more than three months in a year, one should consult an ENT for the same.

Causes of Allergy:

Causes of allergies are unknown and can be due to any reason. There is no definite cause for allergies in a patient. Some people may have an allergy due to dust, or pollen, or even animals and food. There is no single reason for the allergy; every allergy is different, and every reaction to the allergy is different.

There are many common types of allergens which cause allergies like house pet hairs, wool, chemicals used in the house, dust or pollen particles, etc. Allergies mostly occur more often in winters as the houses are closed and packed. Some people have a seasonal allergy, and some suffer from perennial allergy, depending upon the immune system of a particular person.

Symptoms of Allergy:

There are no definitive symptoms of allergies. Most symptoms of allergies include a runny nose, congestion, infections in the ears or skin, redness, water in the eyes, and many more. Every allergy symptom is different since it is highly dependent upon one's immune system and its reaction.

Allergy Test:

The treatment of the Allergy highly depends upon the allergy test. ENT doctors can test the allergy since they determine the source of the allergy and assess as of how to manage it. It is rare for allergies to be life-threatening, but prolonged inflammation and infections in the body can affect the system in a later phase. ENT doctors determine the reaction of hypersensitivity in the body and observe whether they are creating some disruption in the body system or not.

There are some tests available for testing allergies. The most common methods are pricking test and the intradermal test. Most doctors opt for a combination of both methods as the results are more reliable.

Treatment:

Once doctors have completed the tests and determined the condition of the patient, they suggest either allergen avoidance or medication.

  1. Allergen Avoidance: It is the best method to treat allergic patients. In this treatment, the patient is asked to avoid the allergen for safety. However, this method only works when the allergen can be practically avoided. For example, if a patient is allergic to dust, he may prevent dust by covering his bed and pillows with special covers that block dust and kill dust mites.

  2. Medications: Medicines are prescribed to the patient when avoidance is not practical or to reduce the impact of the reactive immune system to ease the symptoms.

People often neglect allergy tests since the symptoms are not worse. But timely checkups and tests are recommended by the doctors for healthy living. Also, if a person is suffering from any type of allergies, seeking immediate help is always recommended and necessary for a healthy life.
