Do assess if you are stretching yourself too much. Do you have leisure time besides preparing for your exams? it is important to keep a well planned and achievable study plan along with leisure time. If you can create a timetable and stick with it, you may have enough time to practise and revise your subjects. You can keep away the fears related to grades and concentrate on practise. Break your portions into doable parts and study accordingly. Take short occasional breaks to break the monotony of continuous study. Eat well balanced food in frequent intervals.

Your lungs can have about 6 liters of air in them while you ordinarily take in only 3 to 3.5 liters only. Practice deep inhalations and gradual exhalations like they do in Pranayam. Deep breathing opens up the idle rooms or air spaces in the lungs so that you can inhale more air inside. That will enable larger chest expansion after some time.

Do head injuries result in behavioural changes? I got injuries on my forehead (prefrontal cortex area) when I was 12-13 years old and I think this resulted in my anxiety issues. I am very anxious since then as long as I can remember.

Hi it may lead to some personality changes. So your anxiety or behavioural changes may be due to head trauma or it may be independently. If it is due to trauma then it depends on type, severity and associated symptoms at that time. If you didn't have history of loss of consciousness, bleed through ear, nose or mouth then there is less possibility that all these changes are due to head trauma. Some time these things relates coincidently to other manifestation. Its best to get expert opinion for same. So please visit a psychiatrist to get proper help.

You are right quality sexual relationship is very important for bonding and marital relationship. It appears that her lack of desires may be related to her dissatisfied sex life till now. Its usual in many couples because of lack of understanding of basics of sexuality in both partners and both of them keep doing sex as per their understanding which may be inadequate because usually people learn sexuality by hearsay guidance and porn watching which is not proper. Best way is to sit down with partner, talk with trust and respect without blaming. Also talk to/meet an expert sexologist and learn basics and find right guidance, medicines may not be needed. Move it will be fine, connect now.

The end of a relationship often feels like the end of the world. After all the time and energy you have invested in it, it is very painful when it gets over. Keep in mind that life is full of ups and downs; nothing is permanent. The pain you feel today will go away with time. Give yourself time to heal. Give time, time. In the meanwhile don't isolate yourself from your friends and family. Confide in someone you are comfortable with. Make a list of life goals, and plan how to achieve them. Relationships are an important part of your life, but they are not everything. Spend time with those close to you, indulge in some enjoyable activities. Keep yourself busy. Slowly you will see that there is a lot to life. However if you are feeling suicidal, consult a psychiatrist immediately. Don't wait to feel worse.

I have a lot of anger management issues. Any suggestions? Can my diet affect it too?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Diet may have some effect but not much. At your age, this development is quite significant because during this time there will be a spurt in the production of the male sex hormone, testosterone, which has a duration of two years. Due to this chemical alone, there are three identified features that present itself over which you will have poor control: you will be sexually active, aggressive and rebellious, and you will have acne and pimple problems. Then if you have unresolved childhood issues, they will compound the situation and fuel uncontrolled behavior. Please remember that you may not be aware of all this. Your anger is probably related to some deep rooted anger that you are carrying from your childhood. It is probably being provoked further by a spurt in the production of the male hormone testosterone, mentioned earlier. After that, it will subside and stabilize. Discuss with your parents whether they are aware of anything that might have provoked this anger from your childhood. Then either by yourself or along with your parents do meet with a counselor and discuss the same. The counselor will educate you about emotions and help you develop skills to express your anger in appropriate ways. You need anger management classes but you also need to know of its origins. Exercise is a very good way to expend the energy of anger so that it is under some control. But it still needs to be expressed. With regard to expression, it is better if you just spoke about it and gave it vent. No physical action of violence is acceptable and definitely, you should not treat your parents to any kind of aggression. Even if your anger is justified, violence is not the way. Finally, if you are a spiritual person, it is possible to hand over your anger to God to deal with it for you: it works really well.

Hello. We once played a ghost prank before 3 days to scare one of my friends. It worked well, as the prank was made a bit realistic. My friend was the one who played a key role in the prank. But after that the behaviour of him is changed drastically. He acts normal, but all of a sudden he shouts at us very abnormally. And also he is starting to laugh suddenly without any reason for several minutes. But he is not recogonisng that he is acting in such a way. We have no idea whether he is continuing the prank or he is mentally affected or is there something else. How can we move up with this? Help me please.

Hi, What you can do is ask his parents whether he behaves the same way at home, with other group of people or is the behavior only limited to you all who played the prank. Observe for few days, if it doesnot get better and if you collect evidence that in general he has started behaving this way. Seek help from a psychiatrist. You may discuss other symptoms with me if any for better guidance.

Dear , anxiety disorders are a category of mental disorders characterized by feelings of anxiety and fear, where anxiety is a worry about future events and fear is a reaction to current events. These feelings may cause physical symptoms, such as a racing heart and shakiness. There are a number of anxiety disorders: including generalized anxiety disorder, a specific phobia, social anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and panic disorder among others. While each has its own characteristics and symptoms, they all include symptoms of anxiety. I need to know more about your anxiety so that I will be able to diagnose it properly and provide you tips to overcome and manage your anxiety. Take care.

U can say her you r my good news . U came in life and my life is now beautiful . Becoz of you . If she making lunch dinner tell her you cook nice . 1.Talk to her respectfully without demeaning her or hurting her feelings. 2. Find something that makes you laugh together. 3. Put your arms around her when she needs comfort, holding her silently. 4.Surprise her by doing something you think she would want done before she asks. 5. Show interest in that which she values as important in her life. 6.Be a good listener. Show her you value what she says. 7.Plan a mini-honeymoon, where the two of you can spend quality time together. 8.Go shopping with her and don’t sigh or look at what time it is even once. 9.Be especially helpful when she is not feeling well. 10.When she asks how your day went, don’t just say “fine” —actually give her details. 11. Don’t embarrass her by arguing with her in front of others. 12. Make eye contact when she is talking to you and when you are talking with her. 13.Surprise her from time-to-time with a card and flowers or a little gift. 14.Give her your undivided attention when she wants to talk. 15.Sit close to her —even when you are just watching television. 16.Do not making plans without her agreeing with them 16. Ask her and then listen to what makes her fearful and insecure (without judging) 17. Be careful to choose your words, especially when angry. 18.Hold her close and verbally express your love when she is hurt or discouraged. 19. Allow her to express herself freely, without fear of being called illogical or dumb. 20. Fix dinner for her sometimes. 21. Tell her (and show her) you love her often. 22.Don’t ignore the small things that bother her and let them build into bigger issues. 23.Call, email or text her when you’re apart so she knows you are thinking of her. 24.Show her affection without sexual intentions. Take care of her.

Sir I have not proper concentration on my study many thoughts in my mind when i study so how can solve my problem.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
You have a wandering mind probably due to some stress related distraction. You need to identify the stress and when you deal with that with a counselor a lot of focus and good memory will happily return. Please do the following anyway:Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night?s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive or coconut oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning at least five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There are some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that you and the family go for counseling too.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. The best time tested method to reduce weight and cholesterol is physical exercise and games along with low fat low carb high fiber diet. There are no short cuts in reducing weight. Regarding cholesterol, raw garlic, honey, lemon, cinnamon, turmeric etc are known to reduce cholesterol. Include them in your daily diet. Please do not skip exercise. Take care.
