Dear sir, I reside in electronic city, bangalore. My mother is 69 years old and has complains of acidity. She also complains thrubbing pain in her knees in the night. I would request a guidance for her treatment.

She would probably have osteoarthritis of knees at her age, the question is how severe. We need x rays of both knees ap and lateral views for the same. Also get vitamin d levels and uric acid levels. Painkiller wise we can' t give her anything strong because of her acidity, we can however give her some medications to improve the lubrication of the joint or some injections into the joint for the same. The above however are only effective if her arthritis is mild to moderate, if it is severe she will need a knee replacement.

Only do massage with sea same oil at night daily for five days. Avoid sweets immediately. You may also take vitamin d.

Advice Contrast bath---It is a form of treatment where a limb or the entire body is immersed in warm water followed by the immediate immersion of the limb or body in ice water. This procedure is repeated several times, alternating hot and cold. Note that the treatment should always end in the ice water, as heat will induce the body's inflammatory response, while cold helps to decrease inflammation. Gentle Stretching of Hand Muscles. Ball exercises. Wrist Exerciser.

Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day. Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the knee against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain.

Knee pain in elderly is commonly due to osteoarthritis which means degeneration of joint cartilage causing friction between joint surfaces, leading to pain and stiffness. Lifestyle modifications and physical therapy are important treatment aspects to maintain functionality. 1. Knee stretching and strengthening exercises to improve knee strength. 2. Avoid jogging or physical activity that increases knee pain. But absolute rest is not advised. Engage in activity like swimming or walking , but perform activity which is painless 3. Application of analgesic cream over knee and warm fomentation before exercises. Apply cold pack after exercises 4. Weight loss to keep BMI around 25 to 28. 5. Simple analgesics like paracetamol when pain is present. 6. When pain or disability is significant, intra articular viscoelastic injection or PRP injection is helpful. * Injections of Viscoelastic substance or artificial synovial fluid into knee joint decreases friction in joint space *Injections of Platelet rich plasma derived from patients own blood into the knee joint.This regenerates the knee joint. * In patients with severe pain, genicular nerve block can be given to decrease pain. 7. In advanced cases Knee replacement is the only option.

Hello lybrate-user, I am sorry to know you are suffering from mcl tear. As you know. An MCL injury is a sprain or tear to the medial collateral ligament. The MCL is a band of tissue on the inside of your knee. It connects your thighbone to the bone of your lower leg. The MCL keeps the knee from bending inward. Following are the self help strategies to get rid of your problem. Using Self-help Strategies 1.Protect your knee from further damage. Limit the amount of moving around you do right after the injury occurs. Injured ligaments should be well rested to promote faster healing and to avoid further injury. Make sure to avoid placing any excessive pressure on your MCL, as this could cause further complications.[1] •Another way to avoid damaging your knee further is to avoid exposing your knee to hot temperatures for at least 48 hours after the injury occurs. Hot temperatures could cause your knee to swell up and become even more tender. 2.Immobilize your knee. Your doctor may recommend that you wear a knee brace for a period of time (the length of time depends on how badly the knee was injured). A brace can help to keep your knee stable, which in turn can keep further damage from occurring. 3.Compress your knee. Use an ice compress to do this. Cold temperatures can help to numb the area so you feel less pain, while also restricting the flow of blood to the area, which can help to bring the swelling down. •Do not place an ice pack or ice directly against your skin; make sure to wrap it in a hand towel first to avoid damaging your skin. Hold the ice pack against your knee for 15 to 20 minutes, then let your knee rest.[2] You can repeat this process throughout the day. 4.Elevate your knee. You should elevate your knee above the level of your heart; doing this can help to keep the amount of swelling that occurs to a minimum. Continue to elevate your knee as much as possible for at least 48 to 72 hours after the injury occurs.[3] •You can use a pillow to prop up your leg.

Take proper rest and do not exert yourself. Do not do any deep massage. You can apply hot water bag or alternate it with cold compress. If it is due to some sprain it should get better in a few day. If the pain is unbearable then please do not ignore it and go to a doctor.

You should prefer Homeopathic medicines....surgery is the last option. Give her Mag Phos 12 x - thrice daily for next 2 weeks. DO give hot and cold compress alternately for acute pain when required. For further queries get back to me.

Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times.

U may suffer from epicondylitis of elbow, I think X-ray won't be of much if you are not fallen or sustained any trauma. Take mild antiinflammatory medication and hot fomentation. I hope you should recover with that. If not, thn visit an orthopedist nearby.
