Hi i Had pain and decayed smell in 6+ teeth with food particle struck in between the joints of teeth. Root canal completed and filling up done yesterday. Still I have a sensation to press the gum near their joint and below and feel tolerable pain but the decayed smell continues making me to feel that still some food paricle is yet to be removed from the root. My dentist affirms that no food particle is left behind but still I feel the pain when I press the gum and decaying smell persists remedy please.

Dear , if the decay has been ther since a long time - it is called chronic - and chronic involvements of the pulp take longer to heal. I would advise you to brush - after breakfast and after dinner - and undertake multiple warm saline mouthrinses- 10 to 15 glasses a day. Your problem should gradually subside in few days. If not do get back on the same forum. Wil do our best to help you. If the problem subsides do proceed for a crown and that would further help in avoiding food impaction between teeth.

My baby which is about a month old, very often stretch it's body, and especially while stretching it makes some sort of noise from it's mouth. Unsure if this is normal to all babies or something I need to worry. Would appreciate the opinions and advices in anticipation.

Dear Lybrate user, Please Relax! It is absolutely normal. Babies at such an early stage discover their ability to vocalize as they see you communicating with them (through eyes and encouraging words). Some babies begin to make some vowel sounds (like "ah-ah" or "ooh-ooh") at about 2 months. Your baby will "talk" to you with a variety of sound this is as normal as responding to your smiles with his or her own. :) This is simply a way to gain the caregiver's attention.

I have severe pericoronitis .the swelling won't let me sleep and my neck is stiff .please tell me do I have to get the gums surgically removed? My dentist said it's not that serious and the swelling will go away after antibiotics. But I am scared to eat lots of medicines. Kindly suggest.

I have severe pericoronitis .the swelling won't let me sleep and my neck is stiff .please tell me do I have to get th...
Regards Please understand what pericoronitis is before you do anything else. It is a physical problem where food particles and plaque accumulate beneath a small area of gingiva overlying a lower third molar. Because of this, it gets inflamed and swells up. Because of the swelling, it gets chewed upon by corrosponding upper tooth. This causes further damage and further aggravates the inflammation and thus swelling. This become a viscious cycle. Because of some antibiotics, painkillers and anti-inflammatory medications, the current episode might resolve only to cause a another episode because the physical problem has not been corrected. This problem is sort of new to our generation based on evolutionary explanations. Our jaw sizes are reducing while the number and size of teeth remains the same. Thus the third molars are generally partially covered by bone and/ or gingiva from the back. This causes third molar impaction or pericoronitis. I would strongly suggest that you stop beating around the bush and get that third molar extracted given that you are unable to sleep because of the severity of this episode. If not indicated in your particular case, consider laser operculectomy (removal of excessive gingiva covering a third molar by laser to cause minimal swelling). It might seem drastic, but take some time and consider the various episodes of pain and swelling that you will have to face unnecessarily because of a tooth that is not as useful in chewing.

I have a hole on teeth. After brushing bleeding is occurs since three month. Please help me. Thanking you,
Hi lybrate-user .u have to consult a nearby dentist and get filled your tooth. And bleeding might be related with some gum problems or from the decayed tooth, it indicates the decay is deeply involving the vital portion of tooth called pulp, if its so you consult an endodontist immediately and do a root canal treatment and if its from gums cleaning polishing followed by using a soft brush and right brushing technique will set your problems.

Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need cleaning and artificial enamel filling or root canal treatment. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

Information about everyday dental care

Hello people I am Dr Sahil Singh. Dentist practicing in DLF Phase 4 Gurgaon and today I am here because of lybrate I am here to talk something about dentistry.

Dentistry is usually related only to teeth orgams or I should say it's more about Crown, bridges cleaning. But there is another part of dentistry. Actually dental health or oral health is equal to overall health. Its like your overall health is directly related to dental or your dental health is a reflection of your general health or overall health. Secondly dentistry is way to related to stress. Nowadays the walking schedules, the working conditions lack of time, lack of exercise. So it all give rise to, it's very common problems whatever common word which you must have heard that is stress. And stress can give rise to n number of problems what diseases and yes stress is a Lifestyle problem also.

A dentist can easily tell a person that how stress is affecting his dietary schedules or his dietary habits, his overall health, his General Health condition of the teeth, condition of the gums, anything. For example, if a person is in stress so he will start clenching his teeth we will start grinding his teeth or he will start biting the nails or he will smoke a lot or he will drink a lot or he will not take care of his gums et cetera et cetera. Maybe he will like depend on of junk food a lot. So all these things yes it will deteriorates your oral health plus it will deteriorates your general health also. Because of all these habits any person can develop any kind of disease in the body be it mental be it physical be it any disease. So your oral health is the reflection of the general health.

Nowadays people are just mad about few things that is smoking that is alcohol it seems to be a Lifestyle it seems to be a status symbol but they just forget how these things will affect their normal life their General Health and as a dentist it is easy very much easy for a dentist to understand what a person is going through. If he will clench or grind his teeth yes we can see attrition in his teeth. Nothing is more like to drink acidic drink is like cold drinks or acidic food so we will see erosion in his teeth. Is he an distress or depression he is not taking care of his teeth virgin till cleanliness so we will see plaque calculus or whatever anything or any deposits in the teeth so General Health and oral health are directly related to each other.

Supposedly diabetes let's talk about diabetes. Diabetes its everybody know diabetes is a disease which kind of deteriorates the whole system of the body, whole metabolism of the body. Diabetes yes it affects major part of the mouth that is gums. Gums are declared gums are degenerated where will teeth stay?

A dentist is very much is much able to understand to make out that your sugar level is high and according to the studies it is very much related to the sugar of the body. If The mouth is clean and the gums are clean if there is like no word of any plaque or calculus the sugar level of body also goes down. Thirdly if you have a lot of deposits if you diabetic so there are a lot world chances of developing endocarditis that is a problem of the heart. Good night have a heart attack because you did not keep your mouth clean or you did not go for professional cleaning of the teeth. So dentist is not just about teeth and gums. Dentist is like a dentistry is about taking care of overall health of the body through your mouth.

Thank you very much and you can find me, you can consult me further, you can come for your treatment throught the Lybrate.

Is Your Wisdom Tooth Giving You Night Mare!

Is Your Wisdom Tooth Giving You Night Mare!

By the age of eighteen, the average adult has 32 teeth; 16 teeth on the top and 16 teeth on the bottom. Each tooth in the mouth has a specific name and function. The teeth in the front of the mouth (incisors, canine and bicuspid teeth) are ideal for grasping and biting food into smaller pieces. The back teeth or molar teeth are used to grind food up into a consistency suitable for swallowing.

The average mouth is made to hold only 28 teeth. It can be painful when 32 teeth try to fit in a mouth that holds only 28 teeth. These four other teeth are your third molars, also known as" wisdom teeth.

Why should I remove my wisdom teeth?

Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to erupt within the mouth. When they align properly and gum tissue is healthy, wisdom teeth do not have to be removed. Unfortunately, this does not generally happen. The extraction of wisdom teeth is necessary when they are prevented from properly erupting within the mouth. They may grow sideways, partially emerge from the gum and even remain trapped beneath the gum and bone. Impacted teeth can take many positions in the bone as they attempt to find a pathway that will allow them to erupt successfully.

These poorly positioned impacted teeth can cause many problems. When they are partially erupted, the opening around the tooth allows bacteria to grow and will eventually cause an infection. The result: swelling, stiffness, pain and illness. The pressure from the erupting wisdom tooth may move other teeth and disrupt the orthodontic or natural alignment of teeth. The most serious problem occurs when tumours or cysts form around the impacted wisdom tooth, resulting in the destruction of the jawbone and healthy teeth. Removal of the offending impacted tooth or teeth usually resolves these problems. Early removal is recommended to avoid such future problems and to decrease the surgical risk involved with the procedure.

Oral examination

With an oral examination and x-rays of the mouth, our doctors can evaluate the position of the wisdom teeth and predict if there may be present or future problems. Studies have shown that early evaluation and treatment result in a superior outcome for the patient. Patients are generally first evaluated in the mid- teenage years by their dentist, orthodontist or by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

All outpatient surgery is performed under appropriate anaesthesia to maximize patient comfort.

Removal

In most cases, the removal of wisdom teeth is performed under local anaesthesia, or general anaesthesia. These options as well as the surgical risks (i. E. Sensory nerve damages, sinus complications) will be discussed with you before the procedure is performed. Once the teeth are removed, the gum is sutured and gauze is placed in your mouth to bite on to control bleeding. You will rest under our supervision in the office until you are ready to be taken home. Upon discharge, your post-operative kit will include postoperative instructions, a prescription for pain medication, antibiotics and a follow-up appointment in one week for suture removal. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us.

Our services are provided in an environment of optimum safety that utilises modern monitoring equipment and staff that are experienced in anaesthesia techniquesAny wisdom tooth related problem get connected to us to get your smile back.

Gum diseases are known for being reversed easily by getting them treated initially; same is the case with gingivitis. Being a milder form of gum disease, it can be eradicated through daily brushing and flossing and getting dental cleaning done regularly.
