Hey Doctor, I have 1.5 year old pug-dog diagnosed with Pyometra. Fortunately it is open and the infection is draining out I have given her the course of antibiotics (intake tazo injections, meloxicam, norflox-100, etc) but she is not responding to it. She seems finer but the discharge is still continuous. Now I have switched to homoeopathy (septa out) as I am scared of surgery because since her suffering, she had loss of appetite and ate only biscuit bread and some milk and due to this she became weaker and the operation might make things worse. Can you suggest me a possible non-surgery treatment? Regards, Ronica (This is the question posed by my friend Ronica, she is very stressed out. Any slightest assistance will be a great blessing, Doctor. Please help)

When your pet was discharged from the hospital, you received specific instructions regarding your pet's home care. Some general care guidelines include: In order to help the healing process, it is important that the wound and surrounding area is gently cleaned to remove any crusty or sticky debris. This will keep the wound edges clean, reduce the potential for re-infection, and allow new healthy tissue to develop. Administer all of the medications as prescribed. Do not discontinue antibiotics for any reason unless you have been specifically instructed to do so by your veterinarian. Your dog should not be allowed to lick or chew the open wound. Many dogs will require a protective collar (Elizabethan or E-collar) to prevent them from injuring the site. It is important to prevent the skin from healing over the wound too quickly. This is particularly important with abscesses that have been lanced and drained surgically. If the wound closes prematurely, the risk of recurrence increases.

Vinegar is a natural exfoliate and you can use either apple cider or white vinegar to exfoliate your skin. Using clean pad, apply some vinegar on the face and rinse it off after five to 10 minutes with cool water. If your skin is sensitive, you can dilute the vinegar with water. You can also freeze the vinegar into cubes or chill it for a cooling effect. This treatment can help control oily skin and acne but you will need to use the vinegar consistently before bed for about two to three weeks for best results. Aloe vera We all know that Aloe Vera has various healing powers. This miracle plant is great for the skin and you can grow it naturally and then slice it to get the gel or purchase the gel from your nearest department store. You can apply aloe gel on your face three times a day and you do not even need to rinse it off. eggs This may not smell good but it works. Egg yolks can help remove excess oils from your skin and this is because they dry out the skin. Use a clean cotton pad and apply the egg yolk only on the oily parts of the skin. Rinse off the egg with some cool water after 15 minutes.

Postinflammatory hyperpigmenation tends to occur commonly at sites of insect bites, but pigmentation and site needs to be seen. It usually subsides slowly on its own, but if persists beyond 2-3 months then consider consulting dermatologist.

How Contagious Is Impetigo?

How Contagious Is Impetigo?

Impetigo is an extremely contagious infection caused by bacteria that affects the skin. It occurs on the face, neck and hands of young children and infants. Diapers wearing infants tend to get it around the diaper area. It is highly contagious and causes red sores that can break open, ooze fluid and develop a yellow brown crust. Impetigo is a contagious disease and can spread to others through close contact. It can also spread by sharing towels, sheets, clothing, toys or other items. As the skin becomes quite itchy, scratching also spread the sores to other parts of the body.

Impetigo is caused by two bacteria namely streptococcus pyogenes and staphylococcus aureus. There are several different types of impetigo and their symptoms and causes set them apart from each other.

Impetigo contagiosa or nonbullous impetigo is highly contagious and begins with red sores around the nose and mouth. When these blisters burst they leave a weeping, red itchy rash that becomes crusted. It may also lead to swelling of lymph nodes.

Bullous impetigo is common in children below the age of two years. Initially clear blisters appear on the torso, arms and legs which later turn cloudy. The blisters caused by bullous impetigo last longer as compared to blisters caused by other types of impetigo.

Ecthyma is the most serious form of impetigo as it affects the second layer of the skin in addition to the outermost layer. It results in blisters, which are painful and these blisters turns into ulcers or open sores coupled with swelling of lymph nodes.

Symptoms of Impetigo are uncomfortable and embarrassing, especially when the blisters are present on the face. The symptoms of impetigo include red sores, which pop easily and results in formation of yellow crust, fluid-filled blisters, skin lesions, itchy rash and swollen lymph nodes.

Impetigo is highly contagious and spreads by skin-to-skin contact with an impetigo patient. It also spreads by touching things used by impetigo infected patient, such as towels, bedding, and toys. Any injury to skin, insect or animal bites also aggravates Impetigo.

If one is suffering from Impetigo, one can do the following things to prevent it from spreading to other areas of the body, as well as to other individuals. These include usage of antibacterial soap to wash hands, a clean towel or fresh paper towel to dry the body or hands, washing clothes in hot water, cleaning surface areas in the home with antibacterial products, keeping short fingernails, avoiding schools and childcare centres and not sharing personal hygiene items. Children between two to six years of age, regularly attending a daycare or school, participating in activities that involve skin-to-skin contact are at higher risk for contracting Impetigo.

Impetigo can be easily treated with antibiotics. For instances of mild Impetigo, an antibiotic ointment or cream to put on the sores will suffice whereas for more serious infection, one may have to take antibiotic pills. If you wish to discuss about any specific skin problem, you can consult a specilized dermatologist and ask a free question.

Acne usually subsides after adolescence, but may last into middle age. Scarring may occur if severe acne is not treated. Some people, especially teenagers, can become significantly depressed if it is not treated. Homeopathic treatment has very encouraging results in acne and pimples and gives relief in long term. Moreover all medications are natural, safe, gentle, effective, easy to administer and without any adverse effects. With homoeopathic medicines, also take the following self-care steps to lessen the effects of acne: clean your skin gently with a mild soap removing all dirt or make-up. Wash many times a day with plain water. Try not to squeeze, scratch, pick, or rub the pimples. Although it might be tempting to do this, it can lead to scarring and skin infections. Avoid touching your face with your hands or fingers. Identify and avoid anything that aggravates pimples. Your triggers may include foods, lotions, or make-up. Avoid greasy cosmetics or creams. Look for water-based or" non-comedogenic" formulas. Take make-up off at night. Homeopathic treatment is strongly recommended for patients who are desperately looking for an effective remedy. If you have any specific question about your condition, consult for treatment.
