I have a social anxiety and I face difficulty in conversion with others. So,what I do.
Hello Lybrate user. Try the following 1.Pay attention to your breathing—don't hold your breath 2. Challenge negative thinking and unrealistic expectations 3.Get moving—short bursts of movement, several times a day, can reduce anxiety 4. Use sensory input, such as relaxing and uplifting music, to calm yourself 5. Challenge your fear of others by making face-to-face contact with friendly people. 6.Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has been shown to work the best for treating social anxiety disorder. 7.Medication is helpful with counselling. Consult a psychiatrist for the same.

One of my friend is addicted to smoking. He is trying hardly to quit smoking but he is nt able to do it. So I just want to know what are the simplest things he can do to quit smoking.

MD - Alternate Medicine, BHMS
Homeopath, Surat
Take sauna bath for 5 days. This is because it helps to release the nicotine along with the perspiration that happens during taking it. So the craving for smoking is reduced. Later, inform me after 2 weeks the changes.

I feel like I am into depression but a feeling that depression is not there is also prevailing. I am going through something low from last 8 years but never consulted with anyone as i'm not sure about it, whether it is illnes or just my nature or it is with everyone. I have everything but I feel like living in a shell, in boundaries and feel like break them & open up but i'm not able to do so. I am unable to make friends, unable to enjoy even in enjoyable moments. My energy level is low mostly and feel like sleeping most of the times. Is there any guidance for me, easy & practical?

MD - Psychiatry, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Hyderabad
From the description you have given it looks like that you are going through depression, but we need to evaluate your personality in detail as it has been a long standing problem. I think if you see a psychiatrist once and get yourself evaluated and then once your condition is properly understood then you can take a call on what to do.

I can give you some study tips Study Tips to Improve Your Learning Study Tip 1: Underlining Underlining is one of the simplest and best known study tips. It’s easy to highlight the most significant parts of what you’re reading. One key sentence per paragraph and a few important phrases here and there. You can only retain a certain amount so it’s best to retain the most important information. Study Tip 2: Make your own note and taking notes is one of the most widespread study skills out there. Essentially the aim of note-taking is to summarise lectures or articles in your own words so you can easily remember the ideas. Study Tip 3: Mind mapping A good Mind map can save you many hours of study and further consolidate your knowledge for your exams. Mind Maps are an extremely versatile tools. They can be used for brainstorming, outlining essays or study topics and for general exam preparation, ExamTime offers the ability to create Mind Maps quickly and easily which makes them the ideal tool when it comes to exams. Study Tip 4: Flash cards:- Using these are a particularly effective method of learning when trying to assimilate different facts, dates, formulas or vocabulary. Subjects such as History, Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Geography or any language are made much easier if you incorporate Flashcards in to your study. Study Tip 5: Case Studies Sometimes it can be difficult to grasp the implications of some theories. This is where studying case studies can be a big help. Case studies can help you visualise a theory and place it in a more familiar and realistic context. This is especially useful in business or law subjects. Study Tip 6: Quizzes are an excellent way to review study notes in the weeks and days before an exam. Quizzes can show where your strengths and weaknesses are, so it allows you to focus your efforts more precisely. Moreover, if you share your Study Quiz with your classmates and test each other as much as possible you can discover even more details and areas you may have overlooked. So before any exam, make sure you create and share a bunch of different Quizzes with your Friends. Study Tip 7: Brainstorming This is another study technique that is ideal for studying with friends and/or classmates. Brainstorming is a great way to expand every possible idea out of any topic. Just get a bunch of friends together and shoot the breeze, there are no wrong answers when brainstorming – just talk and capture the ideas, you can review afterward. Study Tip 8: Mnemonic Rules Mnemonics are especially useful when memorising lists and sets. Mnemonics rules basically work by associating certain concepts with other concepts that are more familiar to us. There are many different ways to make mnemonics and these can be individual to the person. Study Tip 9: ORGANISE your study One of the most effective study skills is also one of the most often overlooked; this is organising your study. Creating a TIME TABLE gives you goals and a time in which to achieve them. Having a study timetable as you study is greatly motivational Study Tip 10: Drawing Many people find it easier to recall images rather than text that is why they are better able to memorise concepts if they associate them with pictures or drawings.

You have to go and consult with a psychologist soon. And you can do breathing exercise and relaxation exercise to feel yourself stress free. When you feel stressed take some deep breaths and think about your qualities and how you use them beautifully and intelligently. You can do meditation also for 5-7 min. Daily. It will keep your mind relax.

I didnt remember name after 1 or 2 days memory loss problem. I am facing what can i do?

Post Graduate Diploma In Rehabilitation Psychology, M A Clinical Psychology
Psychologist, Bhopal
Hi VIJAY Problem described by you is very common. Often we fail to register the names in the first place since introductory conversations are very brief. Next time you come across a new name 1. Make sure you have clearly heard the name, 2. Associate the name with the persons face, persona, actions 3. Repeat the name in following conversation. Ex. Ajay would you like to have coffee. Ajay it was nice meeting you. If your problem persist and you find you are missing out on other things too, you might want to consult psychologist/ psychiatrist. All the best!!

Hi lybrate-user! Age doesn't matter the modern world and life style makes you think. It is like survival of the fittest. There is nothing wrong for thinking negatively, bcoz the world is like that, it is not that peaceful like what it was about 15 to 20 years ago, so the approach in facing situations should be different I mean you should face each and every walks of your life more positively. Ya it works "All is Well" to some extent, but you require a more impacting ways to convert your negativity into a more positive one. Of course world wide acceptable and effective way both physically and mentally is the more ancient way of following Yoga and meditation, which would suit you and your family better. Feel free to contact me either through text chat or call me when you find difficulty to manage. Take care. Do not worry. With regards, Psy. MSV.

How could I leave smoking? It is becoming addiction for me. And what are the names of gum which should I prefer to for leaving smoking.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Best age to stop smoking is before 40, In fact do not start all Only by using strong will power and avoiding all situations where you feel like smoking, chewing tobacco or drinking or using drugs avoiding friends who smoke and diverting mind by reading or chewing a gum, like NICORETTE and taking a walk when you crave for a smoke can all help. You can chew Nicorette gum which is nicotine replacement. There are medicines available. Which can be prescribed if asked personally Cigarette smoking is a leading preventable cause of mortality. It kills more than 60 lakh people worldwide every year. More than 50% of regular smokers would invariably die from tobacco-related illnesses which includes heart attack, cancer or asthmatic lung diseases. Best age to stop smoking is before 40 31st May is “World No Tobacco Day” Quitting smoking before the age of 40 is associated with larger decline in premature death than stopping it at a later date. Best age therefore to stop smoking is before 40. However, stopping smoking even after the age of 50 is still associated with lower risk of death as compared to those who continue to smoke. Even in smokers aged 80 years or more, quitting smoking appears to reduce some mortality.

How I can improve my brain memory because it is very poor. I forget many thing during examination which is prepared by me.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Strategies for Remembering 1.Become interested in what you're learning. We're all better remembering what interests us. Few people, for example, have a difficult time remembering the names of people they find attractive. If you're not intrinsically interested in what you're learning or trying to remember, you must find a way to become so. 2.Find a way to leverage your visual memory. You'll be surprised by how much more this will enable you to remember. For example, imagine you're at a party and are introduced to five people in quick succession. How can you quickly memorize their names? Pick out a single defining visual characteristic of each person and connect it to a visual representation of their name, preferably through an action of some kind. Remember: Memory is predominantly visual. 3.Create a mental memory tree. If you're trying to memorize a large number of facts, find a way to relate them in your mind visually with a memory tree. Construct big branches first, then leaves. Branches and leaves should carry labels that are personally meaningful to you in some way, and the organization of the facts (" leaves") should be logical. 4.Associate what you're trying to learn with what you already know. It seems the more mental connections we have to a piece of information, the more successful we'll be in remembering it. This is why using mnemonics. Write out the items to be memorized over and over and over. 5.When reading for retention, summarize each paragraph in the margin. This requires you to think about what you're reading, recycle it, and teach it to yourself again. Even take the concepts you're learning and reason forward with them; apply them to imagined novel situations, which creates more neural connections to reinforce the memory. 6.Do most of your studying in the afternoon. Though you may identify yourself as a" morning person" or" evening person" at least one Study. Suggests your ability to memorize isn't influenced as much by what time of day you perceive yourself to be most alert but by the time of day you actually study—afternoon appearing to be the best. 7.Get adequate sleep to consolidate and retain memories. Not just at night after you've studied but the day, you study as well. Far better to do this than to stay up cramming all night for an exam.

I feel like masturbating all the time ,i do not have control on me I believe because of this habit I becoming thin .i can not concentrate on any thing and even without doing this sometimes I am unable to sleep what to do?

I feel like masturbating all the time ,i do not have control on me I believe because of this habit I becoming thin .i...
You do onto become thin from masturbation, actually. Sleep will be induced because you will be exhausted and also because the relaxation effect after the deed will make you sleepy and drowsy. Masturbation is not really bad; it is the addiction to it that is bad. Not even the number of years is a problem but the frequency and compulsiveness to do it are to be considered for its ill-effects. At your age, you may feel it difficult and it can become addictive if you have alone time if you obsess about it, and if you are not into relationships. The problem with addiction to this is that you may go on to prefer masturbation to heterosexual contact, even when you are married. That obviously would be an insult to your wife and will lead to a lot of conflict. Heterosexual contact is very wholesome and the physiology is made exactly for penile and vaginal contact. You will instead enjoy a poor replica of this and not know or care for the difference. The second thing that can happen with addiction is that it will become compulsive and will have no boundaries or limits, since it can be done all by yourself, whenever, wherever, and however too. The big problem a lot of children get into is the guilt around this. A useful way to discharge the energy is to get into contact games, or exercises or even hobbies to channelize it. Also, you should not spend too much time alone, and you need to keep your mind occupied with other interesting things and a lot of socializing. Even if you are not interested in marriage, for whatever reasons, it will help you to get into a friendship with a girl and enjoy the relationship where there will be a lot of excitement when you fall in love. Right now your hormones may be very active and your physiological apparatus is primed and ready for sexual stimulation. But because of your age and even otherwise it is important to develop good control and not feed into your impulses. Keeping yourself occupied and living a healthy social life are the keys to manage your sexual drives.
