Avoid fried foods and junk food. Have lots of fresh fruits and salads and drink a lot of water. Biggest energizer is your thinking, be positive and be optimistic about your future. To boost your memory, use visualisation. Make notes, revise main points. Solve as many previous years papers as possible.

two or three large pegs are advisable. in your opinion it is 7 or 10 small pegs. it is ok. taking too much at one time leads so many problems. morning head weight, head ache, lack of sleep, weakness next day. take two pegs and eat good food. then you feel normal next day. taking heavy at one time it is not advisable. there are so many problems in home or road accidents or you may slip your tongue. some times it may not expectable. at your age beer is advisable. two or three is ok. dont ignore food after drinking. take heavy water after drinking. eat small snacks do not take heavy food. it is better to take with fruits. dont take alone. take with your friends. drinking means enjoyable thing. but not getting any problems. so take it mind. it is better to take 2 or 3 large pegs weekly once. ok enjoy every movement of life with magic movements. ok all the best.

How do I make my mind to concentrate on study only? And not disturbed by small movement happening surrounding.

Dear, you must be able to understand concentration, attention span, recollection and distraction. If you are able to watch a movie for two hours continuously, if you are able to play a game for an hour, then you do not have any concentration problems. You can't be attentive towards your studies because you are not interested in it. You are able to watch movie and play game because you are interested in it. Human cannot be attentive towards anything for more than 10 minutes. Then you should study in such a way that your attention is continued and make the subjects are interesting to you. Effective learning techniques should help you. Recollection depends on anxiety, stress and other physical and circumstantial factors. Distractions while studying are plentiful. You should be able to overcome distractions or avoid distractions. Please understand the above. Change your study style and attitude accordingly.

I am 22+ F. I go through a lot of emotional breakdowns. Moods swings are too frequent. I feel unsecured and down too much even though I try too much. I know a thing is bad but still, I repeat it again. I get panic attacks after a week or month which makes me mad. I cry and start to act weird. A friend suggested me I'm going through General Personality disorder. How to really know if I am going through it? Cz I go through suicidal tendencies and tried twice but don’t have so much guts.

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Guwahati
The symptoms you are suffering from indicate the possibility of you suffering from some psychological disturbance or some underlying psychiatric condition. You need immediate help as the symptoms are hampering your normal day to day functioning, & the suicidal thoughts may be life threatening. Get yourself evaluated by a Psychiatrist at the earliest. The doctor will assess you, do your detailed mental status evaluation & physical examination, & make the diagnosis of what condition you are actually suffering from. Then he will advice you counseling sessions or prescribe you medicines accordingly. Stay positive. Treatment will definitely help you come out of your present situation.

Hi Doctor I am suffering from OCD more specifically Ocd related to God and religion. I experience obsessive thoughts regarding god and have compulsive actions as well. I have other types of ocd's as well where obsessive thoughts are regarding death and afterlife. I had the same issue about 10 years ago and had somehow controlled it but in the past two months the same has come back to me and if I remember correctly it started when I decided to quit smoking. This is making life very unpleasant and I have not been able to quit smoking as well as it has become part of the compulsions. Is there treatment for the same, I am from Bangalore.

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Mumbai
There is treatment for OCD, which includes medication and behavioral therapy. The best results are seen in patients who use a combination of both. Given that you had a similar episode before, and are again suffering from this problem, it needs to be addressed urgently. Smoking cessation also needs to be addressed, albeit secondarily. You may consult me for further management if required.

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry, CE (New York)

Hi. You should seek medical help for your friend. Drugs will ruin his life, so intervention is required at the earliest. He should see some psychiatrist. Now a lot of good medications are available and along with proper counselling, he can get back to normal life. Act fast.

I am smoking from last two years and now I want to quit smoking so now please suggest me how can I quit smoking successfully?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
You have to quit cold turkey because the body and mind will torture you endlessly while attempting reduction in smoking. The tobacco tar in cigarette smoke lines your lung with huge patches that make that portion dysfunctional. Your oxygen carrying capacity is jeopardized, and breathing is impinged. But don’t be discouraged because it is not too late even now to reverse all the ill-effects of smoking. I don’t know what other organs could be damaged but do go for a thorough medical check up to assess the effects of your abuse. Regarding improving your lungs, do a lot of aerobic exercise breathing through your nostrils only. Then there are a lot of deep breathing exercises in Yoga which you can learn too. Deep breathing cleanses your system and lungs and restores it to good health. Deep breathing uses the 80% of the lungs which are not normally used in normal breathing and even when exerting yourself. The greatest effect is in the lungs because this substance is processed through the respiratory system directly through the lung surface. When quitting, you must take one day at a time; though you must give up all smoking at once, and promptly. If you look too far ahead you will get discouraged and will give up. If you sit and count the number of days you have given up, that will also focus too much on achievement. You must focus on the here and now, on that day to be precise. After all quitting is not that easy due to many factors. So even if you fail one day, you must try and try again. Very few people succeed in their first attempt. Your persistence will eventually pay off. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary but true and you must remind yourself about this every day. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine gums and nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. at least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here’s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world – you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest.

Hello, I am 29 year old male I am recently married to my long time girlfriend last year and having all good self in ...
For some reason, you seem to connect all this to your marriage. And you may be right: you could be disappointed that after a long courtship, that there was nothing new after marriage. That is why we recommend that you do settle down as soon as the both of you are mature and ready, and not to delay marriage unnecessarily. Anyway, now that you are married, it is important to work on making your union a happy one by making it exciting. You have to continuously work on your marriage to give it thrust, excitement, and hope. You should meet with a marriage counselor and work on the things that may be making it boring. It has nothing to do with procrastination, as much as that boredom may be the culprit that has crept into your situation. Your frustration is then spilling into your work and colleagues, and will definitely come home to haunt the most important relationship and shake it to its very foundations.

Hi, I cannot comment about the medical aspect of your question. You would have to seek a personal consultation with a Doctor for changing your medicine. However, seeking counselling and therapy to address the root cause of your anxieties and resulting muscle tension will help you resolve the problem itself and reduce the need for medication. Very often we give undue weightage to our negative thoughts, fears and worries which makes it difficult to cope with daily life. Effective counselling can help us to enhance our coping skills and live more productive lives without letting our fears and worries overwhelm us. Hope this helps. Take care.

10 Study Tips to Improve Your Learning Study Tip 1: Underlining Underlining is one of the simplest and best known study tips. It’s easy to highlight the most significant parts of what you’re reading. One key sentence per paragraph and a few important phrases here and there. You can only retain a certain amount so it’s best to retain the most important information. Study Tip 2: Make Your Own Study Notes Taking Notes is one of the most widespread study skills out there. Essentially the aim of note-taking is to summarise lectures or articles in your own words so you can easily remember the ideas. Study Tip 3: Mind Mapping A good Mind Map can save you many hours of study and further consolidate your knowledge for your exams. Mind Maps are an extremely versatile tools. They can be used for brainstorming, outlining essays or study topics and for general exam preparation. ExamTime offers the ability to create Mind Maps quickly and easily which makes them the ideal tool when it comes to exams. Study Tip 4: Flashcards Using Flashcards is a particularly effective method of learning when trying to assimilate different facts, dates, formulas or vocabulary. Subjects such as History, Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Geography or any language are made much easier if you incorporate Flashcards in to your study. Study Tip 5: Case Studies Sometimes it can be difficult to grasp the implications of some theories. This is where studying case studies can be a big help. Case studies can help you visualise a theory and place it in a more familiar and realistic context. This is especially useful in business or law subjects. Study Tip 6: Quizzes are an excellent way to review study notes in the weeks and days before an exam. Quizzes can show where your strengths and weaknesses are, so it allows you to focus your efforts more precisely. Moreover, if you share your Study Quiz with your classmates and test each other as much as possible you can discover even more details and areas you may have overlooked. So before any exam, make sure you create and share a bunch of different Quizzes with your Friends. Study Tip 7: Brainstorming This is another study technique that is ideal for studying with friends and/or classmates. Brainstorming is a great way to expand every possible idea out of any topic. Just get a bunch of friends together and shoot the breeze, there are no wrong answers when brainstorming – just talk and capture the ideas, you can review afterward. Study Tip 8: Mnemonic Rules Mnemonics are especially useful when memorising lists and sets. Mnemonics rules basically work by associating certain concepts with other concepts that are more familiar to us. There are many different ways to make mnemonics and these can be individual to the person. Study Tip 9: Organising Your Study One of the most effective study skills is also one of the most often overlooked; this is organising your study. Creating a study timetable gives you goals and a time in which to achieve them. Having a study timetable as you study is greatly motivational. ExamTime has a free Study Planner tool which makes organising your study extremely easy. Study Tip 10: Drawing Many people find it easier to recall images rather than text, that is why they are better able to memorise concepts if they associate them with pictures or drawings. That is why ExamTime’s tools allow you to add images. ExamTime’s tools are geared towards helping different types of learners as visual learning is often overlooked in classrooms, which are more text or aural based.

Dear Priyanka, Probably you are suffering from Mixed Anxiety Depressive Disorder. That is why your doctor has advised an SSRI. SSRIs are not sedatives. They are antidepressants. They do not cause sedation as side effect also. If your mind is peaceful without any anxiety and worries, you will sleep mentally also. That is why they are prescribed. SSRIs take about 2-3 weeks to enter into brain and start working. So you don't expect any result as soon as you take. Taking on and off will not work because the tablet will not enter into brain that fast, by the time it enters, if you stop for 1 day, it will wait again to cross the blood brain barrier. Are you confused? Don't worry - take SSRI daily without fail for at least 6 months or so. If after 3 weeks no improvement, go back to doctor for increasing the dose and/or another sedating antidepressant.

Alcohol dependence involves intense craving or desire to drink alcohol. People drink for pleasure or rationalize it on external factors like family problems, work tension, etc. They drink continuously, i.e. Almost daily or even weekly once or twice with withdrawal symptoms, tolerance, bodily damage, etc. They need to be brought for de addiction which involves You need to consult a psychiatrist and go for 3 steps of de addiction. 1st is detoxification, when alcohol is stopped and the withdrawal is made smooth with minimal discomfort, 2 nd is maintenance and further deaddiction when the physical problems and psychological state of the individual is maintained and anti-craving drugs started 3 rd rehabilitation, when relapse prevention is the goal, while maintaining deaddiction. Your precipitation with dreaming is the main problem, you need to change the habit or thoughts. You may structure your thinking exactly like thinking prioritization of the time. Do attend to need of the moment, by ignoring or teasing thoughts away. You need to learn cognitive behavior therapy under a psychologist for at least 16 hours. Please consult a qualified clinical psychologist who would be happy to help you

Dear lybrate-user, welcome to lybrate. The duty of your mind is to think. You cannot control your mind's thinking. Once you just leave your mind without diversion, it always end up in negative territory. But certainly you can divert your thinking. You can make your mind to be always positive by engaging in creative activities, hobbies, games and passionate towards whatever you do. Thereby you can reduce your stress and tension also. Once you can do this, loss of proper sleep and stress also can be made normal. Take care.
