My mother has trouble walking, but she refuses to get a walker or cane. I worry about her. How can I convince her to ...
I will suggest you to make her symptom free whenever she asks for it and you can get the walker on rent for three days for trial purpose and than if she is comfortable with it than only buy it because it seems your mom wants to live life as it comes.

I am unable to gain weight and I do a lot of exercise push ups but it's still same. Pls tell me how can I gain weight? And should I use the mass gainer ?

I am unable to gain weight and I do a lot of exercise push ups but it's still same.
Pls tell me how can I gain weight...
Weight gain is muscle gain and not fat gain. In your condition your energy requirement is very high so whatever you eat is used as a source of energy and you do not make muscle. To gain muscles you will have to eat at least 6 meals (high calorie) in a day at a regular interval with a proper ratio of proteins and carbohydrates. Proteins will help you gain body mass while carbohydrates will help you give energy. Protein foods are eggs, fish, chicken, milk and milk products, meat and dals. Carbohydrate foods are roti and rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes. You have to eat vegetables and fruits and use healthy and good fats for cooking like ghee, cold pressed mustrad or til oil. You will also have to do some weight training exercise to help you build mass into the body. Also drink enough water to keep you hydrated. You must use a mass gainer.

In a sports injury the acl and lcl in my left knee has turned according to the mri report so is a surgery needed in future because now I am fine as I am before?

MPTh/MPT, BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Mumbai
In a sports injury the acl and lcl in my left knee has turned according to the mri report so is a surgery needed in ...
Surgery is not necessary. Surgery is indicated if there is instability in your knee. If you hav a complete tear of acl then your knee is prone to early osteoarthritic changes as compared to your aged individual. If you are active in any kind of sports then its better you opt for surgery. Also this surgery is never an emergency. If you have sedentarty lifestyle then you can avoid it.

In the meanwhile and right away start taking: Lach 30 and Puls 30 in liquid form. Four drops of each in a tablespoon of water four times a day, 20 mins before meals for 15 to 20 days and report. What is 'Loss of Libido' or 'Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder'?

MD-Pharmacology, MBBS
Sexologist, Delhi
What is 'Loss of Libido' or 'Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder'?

When a persistent lack of sexual desire inhibits your life, causing personal distress, you may be diagnosed with 'Loss of Libido' or 'Hypoactive sexual desire'. Low levels of sexual interest, which characterize this condition, leads to failure in responding to sexual intimacy. However, disinterest in sex does not necessarily mean you are suffering from sexual dysfunction.

If your desire to have sex is less often than your partner's, it does not necessarily render you dysfunctional, as you might be at such particular stage in life where several factors may contribute to a lack of interest in sex such as stress, work pressure, trauma etc. However, a notable difference between you and your partner, known as desire discrepancy, can cause distress.

Although cases of hypoactive sexual desire vary from one to another, certain common signs are apparent. They are:

- Having little or no interest in any kind of sexual intimacies, counting self-stimulation
- Seldom or no sexual thoughts or fantasies
- Being bothered by your own sexual inactivity

These symptoms can have several causes behind them. Sexual problems like premature ejaculation and Erectile dysfunction, medications, diseases, unhealthy lifestyle habits, and fatigue are some of the causes behind this sexual disorder. Hormonal changes during menopause or pregnancy can also be responsible; although psychological problems like stress, anxiety, poor body image and low self-esteem, or a history of physical or sexual abuse chiefly cause hypoactive sexual desire disorder in affected patients.

The treating physician and sexual therapist need to consider all above points to identify the root cause of the issue and find a comprehensive stepwise approach is a consensus with his patient after counseling the patient and doing necessary investigation.

'Consult'.

What is the most beneficial diet for a diabetes patient? What kind of food a diabetes patient should eat?

M.sc dietitics and food service management, Diabetes educator
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Bhopal
What is the most beneficial diet for a diabetes patient? What kind of food a diabetes patient should eat?
Diet high in protein (20% of kcals) for the health of diabetics because it supplies the essential amino acids needed for tissue repair. Pulsese are rich in protein and fibre. Take lukewarm water with half spoon methidana powder in the morning. Complex carbohydrates and fibre should be included in diet. You should avoid fasting and feasting. Junk food should be avoided. Timely and balanced diet is as important as regular medicine intake to control diabetes. Use sufficient amount of ginger, onion, garlic, coriander, lemon, greenchilli, black paper, fenugreek seeds, cinnamon, bay leaves in food items. Except fruit juice you should eat complete fruit because it contain fibers which is good for a diabetes patient.

How can we live healthy ?

Certified Diabetes Educator, Registered Dietitian (RD), PGDD, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (B.U.M.S), General Physician
Dietitian/Nutritionist,
Diet and exercise plays vital role in this. The best diet is one which is healthy and well balanced with foods from all the food groups, and one which is varied and that you can stick to weight loss on some diets can be dramatic in the short term, but there' s more of a chance of rebound weight gain. Set yourself a realistic target and aim to lose between (0. 5-1. 0kg) a week please, being a registered dietitian strongly accommodate the patients own preferences without the patient feeling that they are on a diet not compromising the weight management goals. You need to provide me daily food intake example. There are many lifestyle and dietary guidelines that can be followed. Eat a balanced diet as prescribed by a registered dietitian, I will also prescribe medicines that will speed up the time to achieve your weight management goals

My weight is 93 kg, height 176 cm. Male of 39 years old. Kindly advise how to reduce weight.

PGDD, RD, Bachelor of Home Science

My weight is 93 kg, height 176 cm. Male of 39 years old.
Kindly advise how to reduce weight.
Hye. Thanks for the query. Maintaining body weight is not a one time effort that you try, succeed or fail or drop the actions that take you there. You are what you eat. Your weight is nothing but a balance of how much you eat and how much you burn or exercise. Understanding this art of balance will make it easy to maintain your body weight. Walking, swimming, strength training as well as eating are all calorie burning processes. Along with this if you eat sensibly; then you will see the scales move. There is no short cut to losing weight. You have to eat the right foods at the right time. Eat small but frequent meals. Avoid long gaps in between meals. Avoid junk as far as possible. Exercise at least 4 times a week. Lastly be committed. Remember it's a lifestyle change and not a one time thing. It's a balanced intake that will last you longer. All the so called fad, crash diets, medicines, pills or supplements will only give you muscle and bone loss. The fats will remain as it is. So, lose that fat not muscle mass.

Everyone doesn't have pearl white teeth. Harshly brushing your teeth will erode the first whiter enamel layer and will expose deeper yellowish dentinal layer. Go for scaling and polishing. This will make your teeth a bit whiter and shine. For further whiteness, go for bleaching.
