How Eating Disorders Affect Pregnancy?

There are three main types of eating disorders. These are bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa and binge eating. Anorexia nervosa is an exaggerated fear of gaining weight all the way to the point when the patient becomes abnormally thin. Bulimia nervosa is eating too much and then vomiting it out on a regular basis. Binge eating is when an individual eats an excessive amount of food in one go. All three types of eating disorders have adverse effects on pregnancy. 

Here is how eating disorders affect pregnancies:

1. Unplanned pregnancies: Women with eating disorders are much more likely to have an unplanned pregnancy. This is true both for women who had eating disorders in the past as well as women who have eating disorders at the moment. In a study by University College London and King's College London consisting of 11000 women showed, only 28% of women reported that they had an unplanned pregnancy without suffering from any eating disorder as compared to the 41% who did have an eating disorder at some point in their life. The reason for this is that women tend to think that they do not need contraceptives due to an irregular menstrual cycle, which is one of the consequences of eating disorders during pregnancy. 

2. Happiness about their pregnancy: The same survey of 11000 women conducted by University College London and King's College London reported that 71% of women were happy about their pregnancies. However, the number would have been a lot higher if there were fewer women with eating disorders. It has been said that 10% of women were unhappy to discover they were pregnant, if they had an eating disorder in the past as compared to 4% who never had an eating disorder.

3. Consider pregnancy a 'personal sacrifice': It has also been said that women who have had or have eating disorders during or before their pregnancy tend to consider pregnancy as a 'personal sacrifice' much more often than women who have no history or eating disorders.

Even though mostly, eating disorders affect pregnant women mentally rather than physically, it is crucial that women try to fix this problem before their pregnancy so they actually can enjoy having a baby.

My wife getting left side leg pain, it start from below the knee particular night, when she go to bed. She is 48 years and body weight 98 kgs, local doctor says this is initial stage of arthritis. Please check for check for sugar, thyroid. She appears to be overweight and steps are to be taken for reduction of weight by 20 kgs over a period of 2 to 3 yrs. Diet control, exercise is a must for reduction of weight. You have not stated what steps you have taken so for. Meanwhile try this. Walking and pranayam is a must. Identify the mid point between the ankle bone and tendons and give pressure with a blunt edge on either side of your foot for 2 minutes. Also give pressure in the web between 2nd and 3rd finger from your toe for 2 minutes. Finally give a good massage for both feet in hot water. Identify the dipping portion on the back of your knee folding. Press this dip with both middle fingers and hold your knee with your thumbs for support. Please swing 20 times morning and evenings. This will relieve your problem. Consult after 10 days.

Treatment does not depend on size of prostate but on the symptoms you have. Start taking tamsulosin dutasteride combination tablet. Get an ultrasound of kub with post void residual volume. Depending upon your symptoms we can change the medicine but no advantage of increase the dose.

*Take protein rich food --- milk products, seeds, pulses, fruits, vegetables etc. *Avoid fried foods, processed food and junk food * Maintain food timings * Don’t miss breakfast. *Avoid heavy dinners and late night meals. *Avoid stimulants, aerated drinks etc. and maintain good food habits. * Drink lots of water and juices and keep hydrated. * Have adequate, timely, good night sleep *Have vigorous physical exercise to improve absorption and blood circulation. Games like basketball, volley ball and stretch exercises like pull ups, cycling will be helpful.

Do high protein diet like paneer, chicken, dal, rajama, sprouts, eggs in daily diets fallow this diets for one months properly morning take milk cornflakes n banana in midmorning take banana shake 1glass, in lunch take proper meal in evening take coconut water in night take proper meal add in daily diets dates 6pics daily 8pics badam, n chuaraha 5pics daily.

It is better to chart your daily activities in a book. It should be always reachable to you always so that you should be able to do it. You start your day with a fruit and a glass of a milk/tea/coffee. This will metabolize will your body. This will energize your body. Do not skip any meal especially breakfast.

You can have protein packed good items, as proteins are the building blocks of our body. Protein rich food items which you can have on regular basis for increasing weight are sprouts, bananas, eggs, tofu, milk, cottage cheese, soya products, soya milk. Have atleast 1bowl of mixed sprouts daily. You can have as many as 6 bananas throughout the day. Eggs either boiled, fried, or in the form of omelet helps in wieght gain. Best results are seen if raw egg is taken along with milk. Soyabeans and soya products are good source of proteins. Milk and milk products, banana shakes helps in gaming weight. Keep snacking after every 4 hours. This will boost your metabolism and helps in weight gain.

As per your post having carbs in dinner is sin, I wanna ask that carbs v get from wheat, vegetables,fruits nd rice den wat one shud eat in dinner except these above mentioned carbs bcoz generally v indian people eat either rice or roti in dinner. For weight loss what should one have in dinner?

This is a general strain due to excessive walking or standing and for this you can follow these measures: one keep a pillow right under the knee while sleeping, next is you can keep ice in the painful area for about 5--10 minutes. One time you can do hot water fermentation that would help to reduce the muscle strain.

Dear patient, calorie dense food should be incorporated in your diet like dried fruits, potato, sweets, nuts, jam jelly, banana or mango shake, porridge, badam kheer etc. leafy vegetables should be restricted in your diet as they reduce appetite. you should take 3 major meals a day and snacks in between. butter, margarine should be taken. Adequate amount of egg, meat, fish, milk should be taken as it help you for tissue building in your body.try to take 1 boiled egg at every morning. you should eat more food at each meal. Weakness may leave you without energy to carry out day-to-day activities, drowsy or tired, sluggish, and uninterested. Other symptoms include excessive sweating, loss of appetite, difficulty concentrating, and difficulty falling asleep. You can feel weak due to lack of essential nutrients, not getting enough sleep, a weak immune system, excessive drinking, skipping meals, emotional stress, and too much physical labor. Persistent weakness can be caused by health problems like anemia, arthritis, hypothyroidism, a sleep disorder, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome, diabetes and heart disease. In these cases, it is very important to find out the exact cause behind your weakness. To feel energetic and refreshed in life, you must exercise daily for at least 30 minutes, maintain your ideal body weight, follow a good diet, sleep properly, drink water throughout the day to keep your body hydrated, avoid alcohol and stop smoking. Whenever you feel weak, eat one or two bananas. You can also try a banana shake or smoothie. To help strengthen your body and keep from feeling weak, eat a ripe banana with one tablespoon of honey twice daily. Soak two almonds, one dried fig, and a few raisins in water overnight. In the morning, remove the almonds, figs and raisins and drink the water. Peel and eat the almonds, followed by the fig and raisins. Also, carry roasted almonds with you and whenever you feel fatigue or weak, eat some to get instant energy. Whenever you have weakness, drink a cup of warm milk with one teaspoon of honey mixed in it. You can also boil two to three figs in one cup of milk. Eat the boiled figs and drink the milk to gain strength. Alternatively, add one teaspoon of clarified butter to a glass of warm milk. Drink it twice daily to cure weakness caused by excessive loss of blood. Also known as amla, indian gooseberry is a highly nutritious fruit that can improve your energy level. It is a good source of vitamin c, calcium, protein, irons, carbohydrates, and phosphorous. Simply eating one indian gooseberry daily can strengthen a weak immune system.

You take high calorie n high protein diet. Don't skip breakfast. With breakfast you drink 1 glass of milk n 2 anjeer n 2 almonds. Take 4-5 meals in a day in frequent intervals.
