Hello, thanks for the query. Madam, I am sure you are aware that during the 9 moths of gestation period tsh has to be maintained in the following manner: 1)1st trimester tsh 0.1 to 2.5 mu/l, 2) 2nd trimester 0.2 to 3.0 mu/l & 3) 3rd trimester 0.3 to 3.0 mu/l. Plus it is necessary to check thyroid profile during that 9 moth period once every 4 weeks. If you had followed those guide lines probably such a situation would not have been faced usually in a hypothyroid patient with pregnancy setting in dosage of levothyroxine goes up by almost 25%. It appears that you have not taken that care. Now please follow the advise of your doctor and see that tsh is maintained as mentioned above. If you have any questions please do come back. Thanks.

Are you sure your tsh was 2.9? Because thats in normal limit â¦. Why will your doc prescribe thyronorm 112 mcg for that value. And if it was abnormal earlier for which you were taking 112 mcg you need to reduce the dose to 75 mcg. U can definitely keep on trying for pregnancy.

lybrate-user ji, thanks for the query. Madam I have seen the details mentioned. For your information tsh level should be as follows during gestation period 1) 1st trimester: 0.1 o 2.5 mu/l 2) 2nd trimester 0.2 to 3.0 mu/l 3) 3rd trimester 0.3 to 3.0 mu/l. So it is essential to maintain tsh aroind 2 mu/l through out the 9 months period for better growth of the fetus and for desired outcome of the pregnancy, plus through the 9 month period it is essential to check thyroid profile every 4 weeks. I hope things are clear. Plus the dosage of levothyroxine usually needs to be increased during this period. So please get tsh tested and come back. Or consult a specialist in your place. Thanks.

lybrate-user ji, thanks for the query. I have seen the details mentioned. Usually when one is on adequate dosage of levothyroxine (based on t4, tsh, age, weight & height), tsh is maintained around 3 to 4 mu/l, at which all the symptoms of hypothyroidism are fully in control. Since your tsh is much higher, it is obvious that current dosage is not enough. There is a need to increase it to at least 50 mcg per day. Then check the thyroid profile after 6 weeks to see if desired levels are achieved. Please remember hypothyroidism treatment has to be continued for lifetime. You can not stop the tablet, so please follow the instructions. Plus I am sure you are aware that the tablets need to be taken early morning on empty stomach and nothing to be taken for at least 1 hour after. Plus you will have to avoid using soy beans and soy containing foods. Also avoid bakery items, deep fried foods, red meat and junk food as well as foods made from maida. Regular exercise of 1 hour a day is also a must. If you have any questions please do come back. Thanks.
