Dear Lybrate user, it must be hard going through these tough times. I would suggest that instead of medications you go for psychological counseling/therapy. Therapy will help you vent and deal with your concerns with certain strategies, skills and techniques. Therapy can empower you with life skills, help you cope and make you self- reliant. It'll also help you in the long term, and the skills you learn in therapy will help you deal with future stressful situations. It's important to face these situations and cope with them and do problem solving if possible. Therapy can help you very well with that. Especially cognitive behaviour therapy can help you with overthinking and other life skills such as decision making, problem solving, coping etc. Please consult a psychologist. Getting the right help will aid you in getting over these stressful situations and also teach you important life skills. All the best! remember, this too will pass, things do change for the better and therapy can help you get there. If you need help you can contact me as well. Regards, aaradhana reddy counselling psychologist.

If you are not going to use the medication, it is going to be very tough. In that case, you will need to not only work with a counselor but also do a lot of lifestyle changes as advised by a CBT therapist, and completely comply with all the expectations. My recommendation is for you to not rush coming off of the medication right now. The combination of medication with the therapy is ideal and the prognosis will be relatively good. Oftentimes, there can be overlapping symptoms and conditions between several pathologies at the same time that the whole thing might appear more confusing. By yourself, it is very difficult to see and discern the right courses of action. The schizoid affective disorder has an overlap of schizophrenia and bipolar where the one can be used to cover up the other depending on which is more difficult to handle. In therapy, you can be helped to identify the difference and accordingly use tools to deal with the situation.

The love and support of family and friends plays an important role in schizophrenia treatment and recovery. If you have a loved one with schizophrenia, you may be struggling with any number of difficult emotions, including fear, guilt, anger, and frustration. You may feel helpless in the face of your loved one’s symptoms, worried about the stigma of schizophrenia, or confused and embarrassed by their strange behaviors. You may even be tempted to hide your loved one’s illness from others. But it’s important to remember that a diagnosis of schizophrenia is not a life-sentence. Recovery is possible, especially with your love and support. To help someone with schizophrenia, it’s crucial you: • Accept the illness and its difficulties. • Not buy into the myth that someone with schizophrenia can’t get better or live a full and meaningful life. • Do your best to help your loved one feel better and enjoy life. • Pay attention to your own needs. • Maintain your sense of humor and remain hopeful. While dealing with a loved one’s schizophrenia can be challenging, the following strategies can help you guide your loved one on the road to recovery without losing sight of your own hopes and dreams. Dear lybrate-user, bipolar disorder is a longitudinal diagnosis. Since you keep changing the doctors, each one sees you at a cross sectional time. Ocd, depression, anxiety etc are common diagnosis during depressive episode. Now that you have recurrent episodes and one episode of racing thoughts, argumentative and over talkative, bipolar disorder is a possibility. Please consult with one psychiatrist with all the prescriptions of previous doctors. If you can, take one family member who has observed you over years to give more history of previous episodes and family history of bipolar disorder. However the same treatment will be given under cover of a long term mood stabiliser.

Depends whether it was a sustained relelase / extended release preparation or plain one. If it was an extended/sustained release preparation then it will lose its effectiveness as long term preparation by crushing it. So not recommended. (qutan sr) if it is a plain or immediate release preparation, yes you can crush it.

It appears that you are being treated for bipolar depression. Bipolar is of two types: bipolar 1 and 2. Bipolar 1 is sometimes plagued by psychotic behavior. So the medicines that you think are for schizophrenia are for the psychotic aspects of it. I strongly recommend that you go for counseling too. It is not sufficient to rely on medication alone for your recovery. In counseling, which incidentally will be a long term intervention, you will learn of a lot of ways to cope with life and make adjustments that are essential for normal living. Emotional therapy will alleviate a lot of the problems faced in this condition because it is a mood disorder. You must exercise regularly, eat healthily and sleep normally too. If your motivation and cooperation is good much can be achieved. You must have a time-structured schedule filled with interesting and reasonable activities and it must be monitored for compliance and delivery. In this combination of medication with therapy is maintained for at least three years without any episodes or breakdowns, it is possible to taper the medication in consonance with the doctor.
