Hello, Varicose veins are bulging veins in the legs cause by loss of valve function. The present trend is minimally invasive laser procedures which with ablate the offending veins. This is highly safe procedure with very few side effects. However like any other medial/surgical procedure few complications can arise including, temporary/permanent nerve damage which will result in loss of sensation, clots forming in deep veins of leg which can float to the lungs and cause pulmonary embolism are the two main complications. However these are very rare. Swelling, post operate pain and infection are other potential side effects, which can easily be tackled.
