Hi I am 50 year old female with a history of breast cancer and taking tamoxifen 20 mg daily for past 4 years. December 2015, I took an abdomen scan and the endometrial thickness was 8 mm. But last week july 2016 the thickness increased to 14 mm. Am I having cancer of endometrium? Other symptoms for the cancer are missing. Should I go for an Hysterectomy? Please advice.

Hi Ms. Lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. Well, given to understand that you are already being treated for your breast cancer, which is likely er positive, with'tamoxifen' there does exist chances of thickening of the endometrial lining as'tamoxifen' has estrogenic/ estrogen like effects in the uterus. This potentially can lead to endometrial cancer in future unless intervened appropriately. However, it is advisable at this juncture that you get this clinically examined by your gynaec oncologist for further medical traction. You may require to undergo further diagnostics including a biopsy/ cytology tests to confirm if all is ok with your uterus. An hysterectomy could be a prophylactic option that you will require to discuss with your gynaec oncologist. From a dietary standpoint, it is advisable to go for low glycemic foods that is rich in leafy greens and also appropriate seasonal fruits. Simultaneously, being on tamoxifen, you can go for a good multi-vitamin containing vitamin e, b vitamins including b2, b3 & b12, folic acid, selemethionine, lycopene, coq10 anti-oxidants etc all. Foods like soy, vitamin d, tangerine, grape fruit, genestein supplements etc all are best avoided while on tamoxifen. Hope this helps. Do take care and all the very best.
