first of all it is important to know whether you are having an infective or allergic cough. If the cough is dry, it is usually allergic (but not always). Infective cough usually has associated sputum and other symptoms like fever. Since your cough has been there for a month, it is advisable to get a chest x ray (pa view) done. I you are having sputum, please get a gram stain, afb (acid fast bacilli) stain and culture done. Steam inhalation helps in dry cough, so does anti allergic tablets. However, in an infective cough, antibiotics may be needed. A number of cough syrups are available, depending on whether your cough is dry or you are producing sputum. Please consult a physician for further advise and management.
