Your baby was born premature and with a low birth weight. But he is gaining weight normally. So I don't think there is any need to start a formula feed which has lots of disadvantages compared to breastfeeding. Breast milk is the most important and best nutrition you can give to your baby. Breast milk secretion and excretion is controlled by a complex neuro hormonal mechanism. A relaxed and confident brain is all that you need for adequate milk production. During hot summer months take a glass of water before feeding and have a balanced and nutritious diet. If your baby is passing urine regularly and gaining weight then he or she must be getting enough milk.

As weight gain for your baby in one month is good while on breast feed only, there does not appear any need to switch to formula feed. Breast feed is best for babies, specially so for pre-term babies as breast milk of mothers of such babies modified to meet special needs of these babies. Pl do not switch to formula, consult your pediatrician regularly to monitor growth & development of your babies; as well as to allay fear of inadequate breast milk.
