Depression is a state of mind, wherein a person feels low, sad and worthless for more than 2 - 3 weeks. The person loses interest in eating, daily activities, does not bother about personal hygiene, keeps crying, talks and thinks about suicide etc. There are a number of reasons that can cause depression. Depression is treatable with the help of medication and counselling. Schizophrenia is a mental condition in which the person loses touch with reality, may hear voices, have delusions, may have compulsive thoughts, may become aggressive sometimes, become suspicious all the time, may become suicidall etc. This is a more serious condition. The patient needs to be under medication life long. Psychotherapy along with medication, helps. If the schizophrenia is defected early and if the medication and therapy starts early, then the person can be given some occupational therapy and may learn to earn his/her living. Depression is curable in most cases. Schizophrenia is not curable, it has to be managed with life long medication and therapy.
