Type 1 diabetes is the kind in which the body cannot produce insulin hormone at all and hence daily insulin injections are needed lifelong to control sugar. Missing injections can prove fatal. Type 2 diabetes is the more common form which is mainly due to unhealthy lifestyles in genetically prone people. Lifestyle changes are the mainstay of treatment in this form and the person can be controlled for quite a long duration with tablets. Insulin becomes necessary after the tablets do not work well, which is usually after many years of diagnosis. Neither form is curable, it can only be controlled with medicines.
