Dear lybrate-user, common salt (nacl) is an essential part of our food. A certain amount of salt is required for normal metabolism. Even if you take food without salt doesn't mean that you r not taking salt because in most of food items, salt is already available in traces. For a normal person 6 grams of salt is required per day which means that a normal indian food with average salty taste you can take. There should be no prickle, papad, chutny, salt sprinkler or preserved food. Potassium salt mixed with sodium salt could be substitute of sodium salt alone but in certain medical condition potassium salts are not advisable so doctor consult is a must. Self treatment of bp is not at all advisable & let the doctor decide which treatment is to start with.
