Mr. Lybrate-user, increased uric acid can cause joint pains or may lead to a condition called gouty arthritis, which may begin as a severe painful swelling in big toe. Precautions to be taken are reduce intkae of foods containing high purines like red meat, orggan meat, sweetened drinks, alcohol, hugh fat products, fishes like sardines, scallops, herrings, trout, salmon and mussels, mushrooms. Increase the intake of whole grain products, milk products with low fat. Skinned chicken and eggs can be consumed.
