It's a myth. You must not only have a normal bath but maintain local hygiene as well. Use cotton undergarment & clean sanitary napkins, which should be changed when soaked.

As per ancient believers those women are not advised to take bath during first days of a menstruation. As there will be temperature variation, since at that time body heat will be more with less energy. Also those women are not advised to do any strenous work. They need rest. But the most important thing is menstruating woman should follow proper hygeine, chance of infection is more. In some parts inorder to get relieve from severe abdominal pain they are advised to take hot water bath on these days.
