My son aged 1.5 years having little bit growth in his tonsils. Doctor recommended povidone iodine 2% solution for him to gargle. I fear that he doesn't know how to gargle? And there is chance that he may swallow that. What should I do if he swallow it.

Betadine gurgle must not be used in children who can't gurgle (less than 4 yrs). It should not be swallowed as it may cause stomach upset, vomitting etc in small doses. If swallowed, take him to a doctor asap.

For a young child who cannot swallow, an alternative should be preferred like drinking sips of warm water with added salt and turmeric. It also acts in the same way to decrease swelling in throat and as a local antiseptic. If the child develops fever, you may need to start other medications after consulting a doctor.
