Mr Chitrakant, Alcohol for a diabetes patient is not good in any quantity. Some people may say it is good in moderate quantity, is just a myth. Precautions include : 1) Taking a restricted diet, giving exact calories based on ideal body weight, blood sugar levels and extent of daily physical activity. 2) avoid sweets, direct sugar and jaggery, deep fried foods, junk foods and pastries. 3) Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and permitted fruits (100 g a day). 3) Exercise regularly for at least 1 h our a day, brisk walking is good. Other exercises like jogging and running or surya namaskar , asanas etc. 4) Take medications regularly without missing the dose 5) Work on maintaining a normal weight, as over weight is dangerous in diabetes. 6) Refrain from alcohol and smoking.
