Mr Amit Kumar, Hemorrhoids basically mean a swelling of veins in the anal canal. There are internal and external hemorrhoids. Repeated constipation, excessive strining for having bowel movements, inadequate fibers in diet, repeated episodes of diarrhoea, pregnancy, obesity and in some without any apparent reason. Internal hemorrhoids some times grow big and can protrude outside. They cause irritation and bleeding also. External ones are engorged masses of outer veins at the opening of the anus. They can cause bleeding and make it difficult to keep the are clean. Treatment is to avoid repeated constipation, have good amount of fiber containing food, fruits and plenty of liquids. Avoid getting constipated by following good bowel movement practice. If conservative measures do not help then surgery is advised. Now a day laser surgery is preferred. Bleeding occurs because the engorged veins are eroded due to hard stool. This leads to pain and swelling.
