If not please let me know if he has had fever or has been feverish. On a general basis i'd suggest to take an nsaid which shall help him paracetamol 500 mg shall cover up for both the pain and inflammation. If he has soreness in a particular area and the area feels warm, apply ice packs. It must help take care.
