Precum is rightly called pre-ejaculate or cowper?s fluid ( as it is secreted from cowper?s gland or bulbourethral gland ).

It is clear fluid which is discharged during sexual intercourse , foreplay , masturbation. It main function is as lubricant and as acid neutilizer ie. deposition of pre-ejaculate into vagina neutrilizes the vaginal acid environment ( as acid environment is hostile for sperms).

Sperm quantity of pre-ejaculate is highly variable but lower than that of semen. Sperms are lower in numbers or can even absent in pre-ejaculate. So chanaes of pregnancy are much lower than that with semen.
