My question can be controversial but I'm asking it out of concern. Since last 1.5 years doctors prescribed me tons of antibiotics almost every other month I was on some course of an antibiotic. Dentist prescribed it before a planned extraction, physicians and ENT specialist for throat sore and dermatologist for a skin boil etc. I was always concerned about antibiotics resistance so I prepared a chart of my all treatments on antibiotics and showed that to each of my doctor so that they can give a second thought before prescribing antibiotic. All the doctors were well experienced and well known so I can't question their capabilities but still they prescribed antibiotics sometimes saying "to avoid secondary infection" Sometimes I took amoxicillin course one after other. I know most of the time antibiotics were not needed and despite my concern I was prescribed it. My questions are: What are the real guideline for antibiotic? Do they really cause resistance or it is something which is still under research? How as a patient I can check with my doctor that are antibiotics the only option (unfortunately my chart didn't work)? Same antibiotic can be repeated frequently?
