I washed my mouth with dettol liquid and nw my tongue sensation has lost m not able to taste any food. So nw what should I do to gain my taste sensation. please rpl.

Thank you for your query. First of all let me tell you dettol is not for oral rinse. But if you have taken it accidentally it's unfortunate. Loss of sensation of tongue will restore quickly if you apply honey and Tankan bhasma locally over and all across the tongue and spit it out after sometimes. Thank you.

Hello Ms. lybrate-user why you used dettol to wash your mouth. Anyway it is a reversible loss of sensation so don't worry it will be back in next few days. If not then visit to a dentist. Till then gargles with luke warm water.

That is a very silly mistake for you to have used that all in your mouth these are phenolic compounds and can induce changes in the oral mucosa but you do not have to worry because this is reversible but may take a few days. All you need to do is use a very soft toothbrush to clean your tongue gently so that dead layers of cell is removed and new cells form and their wives alternatively you can use a tongue cleaner gently. You can also add a chlorhexidine mouthwash for you to start getting some taste soon.

Do not use dettol as a mouth wash. Stop dettol. Sensation will come back by itself. Rather do cleaning of your tongue.
