Knee Replacement - Shift Focus On Recovery Post Surgery!

MS - Orthopaedics, MBBS

Knee Replacement - Shift Focus On Recovery Post Surgery!

Knee replacement surgery is a procedure that is used to replace a worn out knee joint with an artificial knee joint. Such a surgery is advised if your knee is causing pain and limiting your daily activities, provided other treatments have failed to cause the desired impact.

Once the knee replacement surgery is completed, the focus shifts to the recovery phase.

  1. The duration of the recovery depends on the type of surgery and the individual.

  2. After the surgery, painkillers are administered to provide relief from the pain.

  3. In some cases, oxygen is administered through various tubes if required.

  4. A blood transfusion may also be required after a knee replacement surgery.

  5. The surgical wound will require a dressing to allow it to heal faster and prevent infection.

  6. A drain will be attached to the wound to drain out the blood from it and prevent accumulation of blood in the wound.

  7. The dressing of the wound should be changed regularly.

Post- Surgery Care

  • Post-surgery, you will need assistance to help you walk. If the surgery that you underwent was minimally invasive, then you should be able to walk on the very same day. Your physiotherapist will prescribe and show you some exercises to strengthen the knee. It is important that you follow his/her instructions to avoid complications.

  • A passive motion machine is sometimes prescribed as it helps to restore the movement of the knee. It helps in reducing the swelling by keeping your leg elevated and moving the knee when you are lying down.

Here are some knee replacement recovery tips:

  1. Avoid doing any work that puts pressure on the knees.

  2. Eat nutritious meals so that the body receives proper nourishment, thus allowing your leg to heal faster.

  3. Avoid heavy exercises which can strain your knees.

  4. Perform all the exercises prescribed by your physiotherapist to speed up the recovery process.

  5. Do not sit with your legs crossed for a few months after the surgery. Consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

If you are trying to get protein from vegetable then have mushroom, tofu, soy milk, soybean, soy product, cottage cheese, peas, peanut butter, almond, yogurt. You can use whey protein as a protein source. Animal protein is good protein source but there is no side effects if you use vegetable protein source.

I am an under weighted guy & want to gain some more weight. Will supplement such as Endura Mass will help?
Here are some energy-dense foods that are perfect for gaining weight: • Nuts: Almonds, walnuts, macadamia nuts, peanuts, etc. • Dried fruit: Raisins, dates, prunes and others. • High-fat dairy: Whole milk, full-fat yogurt, cheese, cream. • Fats and Oils: Extra virgin olive oil and avocado oil. • Grains: Whole grains like oats and brown rice. • Meat: Chicken, beef, pork, lamb, etc. Choose fattier cuts. • Tubers: Potatoes, sweet potatoes and yams. • Dark chocolate, avocados, peanut butter, coconut milk, granola, trail mixes. 8 More Tips to Gain Weight 1. Don’t drink water before meals. This can fill your stomach and make it harder to get in enough calories. 2. Eat more often. Squeeze in an additional meal or snack whenever you can, such as before bed. 3. Drink milk. Drinking whole milk to quench thirst is a simple way to get in more high-quality protein and calories. 4. Try weight gainer shakes. If you are really struggling then you can try weight gainer shakes. These are very high in protein, carbs and calories. 5. Use bigger plates. Definitely use large plates if you are trying to get in more calories, as smaller plates cause people to automatically eat less. 6. Add cream to your coffee. This is a simple way to add in more calories. 7. Take creatine. The muscle building supplement creatine monohydrate can help you gain a few pounds in muscle weight. 8. Get quality sleep. Sleeping properly is very important for muscle growth.

Hi. I've hypothyroid of tsh 6.9. This is about 4 months back. Since then I started to control my diet and I'm consuming regularly walnuts, fish oil tablets. And avoided food such as cabbage mustard etc. And I regularly walk for half an hour minimum during early sunrise. Is there any chance to get my thyroid status normal or should I continue the same diet life long.

It is better to get tsh levels checked after 3 months. Only that will tell whether all the measures taken are beneficial or not. At 6.9 milli uits/ l it is considered as subclinical hypothyroidism, unless t4 levels are low and any symptoms of hypothyroidism are present no treatment is advised. Only after tsh level crosses 10 milli units, treatment is given.

I want to bulk size to gain weight should I take dianabol tablet or not? It is good for health or not.
Hye, The anabolic steroids abused by many are synthetic versions of testosterone, a male hormone. Both men and women naturally produce testosterone. But like all hormones -- which regulate the body's most basic functions -- throwing one's testosterone out of balance can have wide-ranging consequences. Anabolic steroids have many side effects because testosterone, which they mimic, has many effects in the body. The long list if side effects from anabolic steroids include: Shrinking of testicles, breast enlargement (gynecomastia), low sperm count, increased hair growth, deeper voice and reduced breast size in women, high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, high cholesterol, rage, violence and aggression. Lastly know that you cannot just take a steroid and gain muscles. To develop muscles you need to workout and eat according to your activity level.
