long term use of computer key board can lead to a condition of numbness and weakness in hand called Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. If your hand gets numb in the morning after waking up consult your doctor.

I get unconscious at least 3 or 4 times a day for 3 or 5 seconds. Actually I had some depression problems earlier and after a period of 2 years it came back. I did not know what is going on at that time when I get such attacks.

Dear lybrate-user. Thanks for the question. Usually disoriented feeling is usually caused by extreme stress or anxiety. Depression may not present such a symptom at all. Therefore, you could be stressed or anxious. Your previous episodes of depression must have triggered your anxiety or stress. I suggest counseling and psychotherapy online. Take care.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Actually pain at calf/leg region can be due to many reasons, commonly it is muscular in nature but it can also be due to tendons, nerves, blood vessels etc. My advise to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - ice packs application intensively with elevation of your limbs at night - take a short course of anti-inflammatory medication as per your body's suitability - stop your physical activity till pain completely subsides - intensive physical therapy, training and proper muscle conditioning once pain has subsided - slow resumption of physical activities with proper pre activity warm up and stretching of muscles and short increments in duration of physical activity each day as per pain tolerance. - we will get some blood tests for you - serum vitamin d and serum potassium levels, esr and crp once you have all these reports then you can contact me as I can advise you for proper supplementation do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

My father died of parkinsonism, also one cousin is having it. How sure is I may suffer from it?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Only about 10 percent of Parkinson’s cases have been linked to a genetic cause. Most cases of Parkinson’s are called idiopathic or sporadic, meaning the cause is unknown, and researchers believe onset is due to a combination of genetic and environmental factors. If your father acquired PD after 40ies then probability chances for you acquiring this disease are even less.

Respected sir,
Since last five years I am under a treatment of a Neuropathy Psychiatrist. But I am now feeling well. ...
Hello lybrate-user, Having an neuropathy psychiatric treatment is not an easy process. It will take some time to heal your body and get acquanted without medicine. So try to decrease the dosage of medicine slowly, and not suddenly, so that your body will get acommodated with it.

Child is having autism. His weight -15 kg, age-5 years old. Please suggest a diet.

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Mumbai
Autism spectrum disorders (asd) are developmental disorders that affect children by disrupting their ability to communicate and interact socially. To reduce a child's symptoms of autism, parents often try alternative treatments such as specialized diets. Lately, the gluten-free/casein-free diet has grown in popularity. Some parents report improvements in autism symptoms with this dietary regimen. Little research has been done, though, on the gluten-free/casein-free diet for autism. When following this strict elimination diet, all foods containing gluten (found in wheat, barley and rye) and casein (found in milk and dairy products) are removed from the child's daily food intake.

My son went through surgery for adenoids in 2009 and was 4 years at that time. Now again, he has enlarged adenoids, his growth is very slow. Does he have to go through surgery again or is there any alternative options to avoid surgery and avoid recurring again and help him with his growth.

MBBS; DNB; DLO; AFIL

If any remanents are left over after the previous surgery there is always a chance of adenoids to recur. Please consult ent once.

Prolapse intervertebral disc also known as PIVD is quite common disease now a days. The treatment for large extruded disc is largely surgery. But before embarking on surgery one should confirm the clinical signs are corresponding with the site of lesion. There are few cases where even large discs are treated succesfully with medicine especially when medical comorbities restrict surgical treatment. One should consult a qualified neurosurgeon at the earliest as delay on treatment can cause transient or permanent neural damage.
