Hello one of my friend is smoking from past 2 years what will be the effect if he leave smoking now suddenly. Or whats the way to stop?

That is the way to give up smoking anyway: suddenly and immediately. The effects will be just great but depending on the amount of cigarettes he smokes, there will be a withdrawal reaction. That can be countered by some substitution methods that are useful and eases the withdrawal. His decision to want to quit is very welcome and you must do all you can to encourage and support him. Here are the ways to stop the smoking: first of all it is not easy because there is a lot of conditioning associated with it and these can be spread over the whole day and night! when he decides, it must be done immediately and abruptly. Waiting another day will jeopardize the decision. Since he wants to do it I recommend that he seeks the help of a counselor and do it with support. He needs to identify with why he smokes: there is an oral need, the nicotine effect, the psychological effect of covering up some other issue, for style, to impress, etc. He may discover that the reasons may be unimportant at this stage because he has become too addicted and the habit has become compulsive. He should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time he feels like smoking (try yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need, for a little while. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine chewing gum or nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. He may join smokers anonymous in his city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep him occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i. E. At least for the first 21 days. Above all, announce it to everyone that he has quit smoking. Here? s a piece of very good advice: even if he accidentally/willfully takes a cigarette, it is not the end of the world? he can start the cessation all over again. He must persevere with the best support until he defeats this addiction. To help process all of the above and to get support, let him go for counseling and persevere with it until he is completely over it.

I am a retired professional engineer having worked as high a level as CEO & retired in 2014. I am from a Lower Middle Class family of a govt servant in Delhi with 6 six siblings. Father died at an early age of 52 in 1968. My mother & brothers & sister brought me up in an environment fully enjoyable depended & a very happy 15 years . I then went on to do my PG in Eng from Indian Institute of Science . All by my own without disturbing my brothers for financial aids etc. I got a very good career & I planned my career to become a CEO by 50 which I became when I was 52. Yes I have been fairly successful in my career. I got married into a HIG family and had 2 loving children who have succeeded well in their life and one is married & the other is getting married shortly. I was fortunate enough to educate them in US & feel proud of them & have spend close to 80 lacs for their education & marriage. My wife is a very helpful & a very good mother and she has a twin sister who is married & is very rich & over influencing. My wife is very close to her. I have been having frequent surgeries about 15 so far all due to accident or birth defects latest being colon disorder which required an 8 hr surgery. I am diabetic but healthy & can stand in a factory for 8 hrs without getting tired? My Problem My family has been very toxic towards me Anything I say or do is either wrong or is verified Now that I am retired I am not shown any respect & decisions are taken without any info to me . I do not feel being there. I feel second rate family member though lot of concern is shown on me. I feel drained & very anxious what will happen to me. I am left with just a little savings and I have to work to earn a sustaining salary . I cannot afford any more spending & I have to be assertive about this. Can I change myself to accept what is happening. Do I change the environment ? How do I project myself to be happy & can be a good part of a celebration . My children know all this but are biased towards my wife I do not resent this I have accepted this as natural . Please guide me.

Dear sir, one experiences little loss of'significance' after retirement, esp. If retired from a high post in which one is a decision maker and the most imp. Cog in the wheel! it is also true that in the family, one's significance comes down slightly as an individual is weighed by the value system, which is a product of society. Even in your introduction of self and the family, it is clearly visible. Family may not have gone toxic as you may have superimposed that due post retirement blues! as you have mentioned that they are concerned about you. You cannot change them, but accept this transition. It would be wonderful if you are professionally active again giving you financial security, independence. Expectation and frustration. Hope & despair are eternally linked. Obviously one expects from the other in a relationship and esp. When one has been the provider. But life is uneven. So it brings this despair. That is why the parental sacrifices (monetary) which are common in eastern/asiatic world end up giving bitter taste eventually many times. That all actions are self-centered must be whole- heartedly accepted as the origin of all the actions, thought stem from" i" which is individualistic, separated from others (even those related). Accept your'i" and its agenda happily and do not mistrust your family, I is just that they have there own'i' s working!

I have been suffering depression for last 10 years. Present time problems are - Bach ache ; leg ache ; sleep disorder (late night sleeping and in day oversleeping) fatigue (without any reason) ; weakness (without any reason); stress and anxiety (without any reason) ; no interest in many things ; poor memory ; lack of concentration ; no interest in study ; lack of happiness. At the advise of doctor I have taken many medicine like as tryptomer ; thyoril ; mirazep; citalopram; escitalopram; duloxetine; fluoxetine and many more. I got improvement by paroxetine and clonazepam. But not cure.

You are into an anger-related depression and need the assistance of a counselor too. This I am sure you have not tried and that is why there is so much trouble coming out of the depression. So find a good counselor and work with that person along with the medication you are taking. A lot of your symptoms are either induced by the depression or is a part of the disorder. So they should all stand to benefit if you combined the two therapies. In the meantime please do the following sincerely because you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least, 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive every day and learn to be contented with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved. As regards the concentration you are sure to have hormonal imbalances which may impact your memory because of the chemical but also the distractions that come with it; together with depression I can imagine your problems. But you may work on the following even if the hormones kick in: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning at least five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There are some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. Hello sir, since you were smoking for so long it becomes an habit and for anyone to break that habit would be difficult so it is just not you who is facing that difficulty. It is really great on your part that you stopped smoking and this craving on seeing a cigarette is common. So for that there are medicines to control that craving along with few counselling could also be given to build up your self-control. And for backache you should first go through physical examination and if those results are clear and shows no medical cause for that pain we can deal with that too. Hope you find my answer useful.

Usually grief reaction with symptoms of depression occurs up to an year after losing a loved one. If thus does not affect your daily functioning pull on, else, consider a psychiatric consultation. A course of antidepressants would surely help

With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Dear, Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. If you?re ready to stop smoking and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from nicotine addiction and abuse abuse?no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating nicotine addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn?t easy. But it?s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of smoking. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan and cooperate with your psychiatrist / psychologist. Take care.

I am about to get married but I am getting very anxious day by day. I am not excited as others should be on their marriage being fixed. Neither am I that happy or elated. I like that guy ,he loves me and I like him too .He is a kind, genuine and nice natured guy. But I don't like his mom. I have met her a few times and I don't get great vibes from. I have always believed that I will treat my mom in law as my own mother and will share similar relationship with her as well. But here I don't see her being like my. Mom at all. I don't know if I will be able to like her as a person .Please suggest.

No person will be similar to any other person. Depending upon their environment, their emotional outlook people vary. Its rather a great thought to treat mom in law as your mother. But expecting that to be a criteria will not fetch you good in marraige life. You should rather bother about the person you are going to get married than others as after marraige the situation changes. You should have proper understanding with your soulmate that's more important. And its difficult to judge people in few meetings. You are going to start a new life be open to it think positive about people and accept everyone with open heart. There might be mismatches in opinion but just ignore and accept the person as they are rather wanting that person to your expectation. It will cause distress. Starting a new life with positivity and happiness will make you stay happy and comfortable in a relationship. All the best and have a wonderful married life.

I am 24 yr old male. I have a tendency of helping people, but every time I do that, the person I help is not at all thankful for that and it never ends well. I keep falling in a constant loop of helping others and feeling used in the end. When I know I have not done anything wrong, then why do I get punished all the time.

Dear lybrate user, welcome to lybrate. You must be able to understand concentration, attention span, recollection and distraction. If you are able to watch a movie for two hours continuously, if you are able to play a game for an hour, then you do not have any concentration problems. You can't be attentive towards your studies because you are not interested in it. You are able to watch movie and play game because you are interested in it. Human cannot be attentive towards anything for more than 10 minutes. If the task is boring, it is natural that that person will sleep or feel sleepy. Then you should study in such a way that your attention is continued and make the subjects are interesting to you. Effective learning techniques should help you. Recollection depends on anxiety, stress and other physical and circumstantial factors. Distractions while studying are plentiful. You should be able to overcome distractions or avoid distractions. Please understand the above. Change your study style and attitude accordingly. Take care.
