Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. A person having diabetes and high BP can definitely do good work out and also build sizable muscles. In fact doing more exercise shoud be helpful. But primarily your blood glucose and BP should be in strict control. Fasting should be < 100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c% <6.8 or even lower. BP 120 to 130 / 70 to 80 mm Hg. Thanks.

Please tell me if you are treatment and what are the drugs. Plus also let me know fasting and pp sugar levels & hba1c level. Rbs more than 150 mg is high, better to bring it down. Headache in the morning could be due to many reasons, normally high blood sugar does not produce any obvious symptoms. What is your bp reading? please also inform me your weight, height, waist circumference and level of physical activity daily. I await the info.

DIABETIC TIP OF THE DAY - people with type 2 diabetes should target for an A1c of 7% or lesser and it should be checked once in three months.

Sir today I have examined my sugar level. Fasting 74 and pp 119. I am taking diamicron-60 half tablet daily before meals. My hba1c is 5.8. Everymonth more or less the report is normal. Shall I reduce the power. Need your advice. If so mention the name of the drug and how to take. Thank you.

Dear sir, you diabetes is admirably under control. Do not reduve the medication you are already taking. Rather keep doing what you are doing already. Exercise daily, keep good dietary habits and monitor your sugar levels and hba1c regularly.

I am diabetic since August last year and taking some ayurveda pills since then. I am talking half litre milk everyday. Is it good or bad? If good should I increase intake? If bad what's substitute for it?

Mr. Lybrate-user, if you have confirmed diabetes then appropriate treatment with anti diabetes drugs is needed. If diabetes is in control then fasting sugar should be closer 100 mg, pp 150 to 160 mg & hba1c should be <6.8%. If these levels are not achieved then you are inviting severe long term complications of diabetes. Taking milk is good but sugar control and overall diet restrictions must be adhered tp.

I am 26 years old. Since last month I experience symptoms like weakness, feeling tired, weight loss. I did a blood sugar test and found to be diabetic. Now taking humalog mix - 25 16 units each bbf and bd. Want some advice how to control it and to stop insulin. because I heard taking insulin regularly is bad for health rather than taking tablet. My mom and dad are diabetic.

Dear most important is to control your blood sugar levels. Insulin is medicine and not recreational drug that you get addicted to it.

How to balance weight in case of high diabetes. Please give me some tips to stabilise sugar in my body.
It's really important to track all your activities. It can be challenging, but you won't realize how effective it is unless you give it a try. The information about trends in your activities will help you get motivated and achieve your goals: 1. Organize you activity list. Write down (or type it if you use a software on PC or smartphone) all your daily routine. 2. Record events for each activity. For example you have an activity titled 'Chocolate bars'. Each time you eat a bar, you add an event. 3. Watch your progress and trends, draw conclusions, stay motivated There is a plenty of ways to keep track of stats. You can use sheets on your fridge, you can use notebooks, PC or Mac software or apps for smartphone, like iKeepStats for instance.

My mom is a patient of high bp and diabetes and she felt weak always and I want to confirm about some diet products f...
Mr. Lybrate-user, first thing is diabetes has to be controlled effectively so also the bp. If blood sugar is high, there is a regular loss of glucose through urine. This leads to weakness. She should aim to achieve fasting sugar closer to 100 mg and pp around 150 to 160 mg and hba1c% <7. Bp should be 130 / 80 mm hg. If this is done generally tiredness and weakness do not remain. Diet has to be based on ideal body weight (58 kgs), present sugar levels and extent of daily exercise. Information about present dietary intake also is necessary. The steps to be followed are: avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods and pastries. Avoid sweetened aerated drinks, high fat items like cheese, processed fried foods and red meat, ghee and butter. She should consume more of green leafy vegetables and salads. Permitted fruits about 100 g a day can be taken.

I am 23 weeks pregnant and suffering from thyroid and my legs got swell. So, what can I do at my home. I can already take medicines also for thyroid. Can I take hot water treatment for my swelling legs. Is, it safe in pregnancy.

BHMS
Homeopath, Chennai
Swelling feet (oedema) happens because your body is holding on to more fluid than usual. The increased pressure in your leg veins, and pressure from your growing baby on the big veins in your groin, add to the problem. Swelling is common. About half of all pregnant women experience it around their ankles, particularly in the last few months of pregnancy. You may find your fingers, face and lower back become swollen too. The swelling in your legs usually gets worse towards the end of the day, especially if you're on your feet a lot. Gravity makes fluid collect at the lowest point in your body. Hot weather and being tired can also make swelling worse. Follow these tips to get relief 1. While sleeping keep your legs above hip level, you can keep some pillows below your legs 2. Eat a balanced diet with more vegetables, fruits, drink plenty of water 3. Sleep (7-8 hrs) 4. Go for regular exercise 5. Don't stand for long time go for constitutional homoeopathic treatment, since homoeopathic medicines act best during pregnancy, it will not only solve your basic issues but will make your baby also more healthy and immune.

My father is 65yrs old. He is sugar patiant. We done angiography from brahamananda hospital in jharkhand & found 3 blockage. Dr. Perwez alam suggest operation (by pass surgery). But we are not sure that it is good for dad or not. Please advice me what we do ?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology

Hello, if the blocks are severe it is necessary to get operated. 65 years is not very old age and with proper control of blood sugar particularly just before operative procedure, during operation and after surgery for a days. The concerned doctors will ensure that. Hence it is better to under go surgery.
