Hi, Diabetes is not a curable disease, it can only be controlled. So, you have to be on these medications for life long. Only the dosage can be adjusted according to the blood sugar values.

Reduce your weight by 25 to 30 kg if possible by strict diet and exercise. Your medicine list shows you are hypertensive as well so it is better for your heart to do that. You should have a low carbohydrate diet (avoiding potatoes, rice, direct sugar etc) and eat a lot of salads for fiber and filling effect. Eat frequent small meals in place of 2 full meals

Doctor suggested to continue Thyronorm 100 MCG. Please advise is this is the right dosage? Or we need to switch to Thyronorm 50 MCG? Kindly advise.

Renuji, recommended tsh levels just before conception and through out pregnancy have to be in the range of 0.1 to 2 milli units. (1st trimester 0.1 to 2.5 milli units, 2nd trimester 0.3 to 3 milli units and 3rd 0.3 to 3.5 milli units). So please continue present dosage. Otherwise fetal growth and pregnancy outcome will be affected. Thanks for the question. In fact your tsh levels should have been corrected even before the conception itself.

At 10 months you can give all the vegetables to an infant. Infants do digest well. As regards adding sugar to milk, it is better to avoid additional sugar as long as possible. Except making the milk sweet, there is no additional benefit. If the child accepts milk without sugar then there is no need to add at all. Thanks.

you can take..tab.thyronorm 75 mcg. cap. ecosprin gold-20 1hs. tab.zyloric 100 1od . A common treatment is to replace thyroxine with a specific synthetic thyroid hormone (levothyroxine). This hormone is safe and affordable, but determining the right dosage often takes time. Your metabolic rate has to be returned to normal. Raising it too quickly can cause palpitations and make some medical problems like coronary artery disease and atrial fibrillation worse. Symptoms of thyroid hormone excess are: shakiness or tremors palpitations insomnia increased appetite Diets rich in soy and high fiber can interfere with levothyroxine absorption. Medications and supplements also can reduce absorption. These include: calcium supplements iron supplements cholestyramine aluminum hydroxide (present in some antacids)

Hi m bhavi. My husband suffering in gout about 6yrs. please advice to reduced uric acid level and diet chart.

DM - Rheumatology, MD - General Medicine
Rheumatologist, Mumbai
Hi gout is a very severe disease, it affects joints, heart and kidneys. Most people forget that uric acid which deposits in joints can deposit in heart and kidneys too. So basically besides most painful joints it can kill also. Also as disease progresses the arthritis spreads and can have a devastating effect (google gouty arthritis, gouty top, gouty joint, gouty erosions images). The treatment is very simple, but to be taken continuously. Also its a widespread misconception that you should stop dals. Dals are very healthy source of protein, and they need not be stopped in gout. Gout is a very severe form of arthritis. It has acute and chronic phase. In acute phase requires immediate management in the form of certain drugs. Chronic phase requires treatment to prevent attacks and later lower uric acid. Also you do not need to stop dals or even non veg as is the common misconception. You can please choose a private consult if you need more detailed treatment and dietary advice. Attacks go gout can be treated with any form of therapy. But chronic gout requires a simple tablet in allopathy (like a single tablet in patients having high blood pressure), to prevent further attacks and prevent heart and kidney disease. No drug in ayurveda can do that.

lybrate-user Komalji, Thanks for your query. I am sure you are aware what are the blood glucose levels one is expected to maintain to have a well controlled diabetes. FBG should be <100 mg, PP 160 to 170 or 180 mg (ideally 150 to 160 mg) & HbA1c%<7. There is no mention about HbA1c%. The drugs prescribed are unlikely to produce hypoglycemia. A person gets hypoglycemic symptoms once blood glucose level goes below 70 mg or even lower. If you have any doubts please come back. Thanks.

I have been suffering from thyroid since last two years. And I have no baby. I am taking treatment regularly but I am not getting well. I want to know that how can I get well soon? And how can I get a baby?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. Lybrate-use, if some one has hypothyroidism and is on treatment then tsh levels have to come down to around 3 to 4 milli units/ml. Plus if a lady wants to be prgnant then tsh levels have to be brought much lower like 0.2 to 2 milli units/ ml even before getting conception and all through the pregnancy. Otherwise first the conception will not occur, or retained or will not develop well. So bringing tsh levels lower is very important.

Get her investigated for basics. Sugar + salt water does not lead to weakness unless she is diabetic and has high bp. At 48 every woman should get checked for heart because due to time around menopause, there are hormonal changes within the body. Get an ecg, halter, blood tests for cbc, sugar, lipid profile, ultrasound of abdomen. Get back here with reports and her gyne history about periods.

Sir, I ve been keeping glucose level at normal for the last 3 months. Is there any need going for diabetic profile test.
If you are diabetic and on diet & exercise treatment or in addition oral drugs or insulin you are required to test fasting &pp atlest once in 3 months if your control is good as in your case. Also get hba1c atleast 2-3 times a year for monitoring. Every year one should check for various organ complcions such as kidney eyes heart nerves blood vessels etc
