I am suffering from celiac disease. How can I get rid off it. What should I do please help me.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
There is no cure for coeliac disease, but switching to a gluten-free diet should help control symptoms and prevent the long-term consequences of the disease. Even if symptoms are mild or non-existent, it is still recommended to change your diet, as continuing to eat gluten can lead to serious complications. It is important to make sure your gluten-free diet is healthy and balanced. An increase in the range of available gluten-free foods in recent years has made it possible to eat both a healthy and varied gluten-free diet.

Sir, Can a normal person with no health problems can take sea cod fish oil capsules? Does it contain omega 3 fatty acid?

Diploma in Naturopathy & Yogic Science (DNYS), bachelor Of Science in Nursing
Yoga & Naturopathy Specialist, Gandhinagar
Yes we can but taking cod liver oil without necessarily or any health problem is not advisable because it will put extra effort on liver to metabolise as well as may be chances of hypervitaminosis. You can get your dietary Omega 3 Fatty acid from some natural sources too as well like Green leafy vegetable, soyabean, Swap butter and cream with unsaturated oilsInclude nuts etc. Wish you healthy life Feel free for any health assistance.

Hair Loss - What Causes It? + Ways It Can Be Treated!

MD, MBBS
Dermatologist, Bangalore
Hair Loss - What Causes It? + Ways It Can Be Treated!

Hair loss is a very common problem and a number of people face this issue. There are numerous reasons that can account for hair loss. As we already know, it is normal to lose about 50-100 hair strands in a day. This is because the rate of hair loss can be replenished, however, the moment the hair fall rate increases, hair loss problems start occurring.

Although reasons for hair loss may vary from person to person, here are a few common reasons for hair loss

  1. Hereditary i.e it happens in people with a family history of baldness
  2. Post pregnancy is also another phase, which can cause hairfall
  3. Major illness, surgeries, or severe traumatic events can trigger major hair loss
  4. Hormonal disturbances like PCOS, menopausal changes etc causes hyperandrogenism which results in hairfall and hair thinning
  5. Certain medicatition can also cause hairfall
  6. Physical or emotional shock and extreme stress can cause enormous hair fall
  7. A diet which lacks sufficient amount of vitamin D, iron, protein, vitamin B12 deficiencies  and other required nutrients can be a reason for hair thinning

Now that we have talked about the causes, it is important we discuss the solutions; here is a list of treatments for hair loss which might be very efficient.

  1. PRP therapy:  Platelet rich plasma therapy is a hair restoration therapy which essentially gives natural looking results. Platelet rich plasma is prepared from the patient's own blood using a strict protocol and is injected on scalp with fine needles. Growth factors released from blood cells called platelets do their job and hair re-grows in a very natural way.
  2. MesotherapyThis is a treatment that essentially stimulates the mesoderm using superficial microinjections into the target tissues, thus relieving a number of symptoms. In this therapy, the hair follicles grow and survive and proper blood circulation is stimulated.
  3. Micro needling:  This is another method used to treat hair loss. In this treatment the skin is poked with numerous tiny needles causing micro-injury, thereby, causing the skin to stimulate collagen and also induce hair growth on the scalp.

Primarily the underlying disorders need to be addressed with relevant treatments after thorough investigation. Appropriate topical and oral medications are advised. Along with these, the above mentioned procedures are used to treat a problem. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist.

Hello Doctor. I feel like I've diabetes. Because I'vevseen some symptoms in my body i.e. Frequently feeling thirsty and hungry. So Can I know That Do I really have diabetes at home with Accu-check blood glucose monitoring device? Or else I have to go see a doctor. But I have heard people knowing are they diabetic or not from this device. I'm really worried. So, please kindly answer this ASAP.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
This is good for daily monitoring only and not for diagnosis. Diabetes affects all organs in the body – Eyes, kidneys, nerves, reproductive system all are affected, In fact, from toe to hair. For diabetic control, patient and doctor should be in constant touch for regular follow up and advice. The common symptoms are :-Both types of diabetes have some of the same tell-tale warning signs. Hunger and fatigue. Your body converts the food you eat into glucose that your cells use for energy. But your cells need insulin to bring the glucose in. If your body doesn't make enough or any insulin, or if your cells resist the insulin your body makes, the glucose can't get into them and you have no energy. This can make you more hungry and tired than usual. Urinating more often and being thirstier. The average person usually has to pee between four and seven times in 24 hours, but people with diabetes may go a lot more. Dry mouth and itchy skin. Because your body is using fluids to make pee, there's less moisture for other things. You could get dehydrated, and your mouth may feel dry. Dry skin can make you itchy. Blurred vision. Changing fluid levels in your body could make the lenses in your eyes swell up. They change shape and lose their ability to focus. Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. It is a difficult task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (Self-Monitoring of Blood glucose – SMBG). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of Fasting sugar (FBS) and 2 hours after food (PPBS), & HbA1C (inform me) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ Insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & life style. For diabetes, hypertension (high BP) and many long-term illness control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner. For giving you regular follow up you ask me with all details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take. I assure you a proper guidance. If you keep in touch personally. By consulting on this site.

My hair is becoming thinner. I had applied straightening cream a month ago. I want to know how to have thick, dense hair. Also I want to know if I bald my head, is there a chance that hair condition might improve?

M.D (HOMEOPATHY), MBA (Healthcare)
Homeopath, Gulbarga
Dear patient, it seems you are suffering from hairfall. Now-a-days, hair-fall has become one of the most common problem for both men and women, this is due to the adoption of unhealthy lifestyle, pollution, stress, poor diet, hormonal changes and usage of detergents. Common causes include, thyroid problems, pcod, alopecia, poor diet, scalp infections and genetics. Most successful treatments include both correction of life style & diet, and proper consumption of homeo medicines till completion of course. 9 out of 10 cases now, responds well to trichorootact hairoil with hairroot actve homeo herbal medicines. Try this formula and revert back with result. Take care.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
You can have sex, no problem, if your diabetes is not properly controlled you will have lot of problems along with sexual problems. It is not as easy task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (self-monitoring of blood glucose? smbg). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record.
