Usually we continue for five to ten years. Usually we change after five years to another type of hormonal therapy may be aromatase inhibitors. Please keep a check for uterine disease periodically by doing ultrasound abdomen.

Surgery is only the answer. You should undergo prostrate surgery as early as possible before it gives any complications. Medical treatment is not very effective in such a large prostrate.

--------------------------------------- causes;-different types of cancers may be having ------- different types of multiple causes, not any one, in some cancers--viruses have been detected. Adultrated foods, allopathic salts, hormonal drugs, chemical salts, paints, alcohol, smoking, constipation, unhealthy water, foods, uncompatible foods, excessive sex-loss of semen, industrial hazards, polluted air, acidity, arthritis, stones, unknown reasons etc. Are other causes. Prevention;;-- you can prevent cancers by avoiding its possible causes. ----------------------------------------- -these days-- land where vegetables are grown-- if irrigated with industrial waste water. Heavy chemicals treated water, pollutants, pesticides, fertilizers- can cause cancer also. Pesticides spray also on vegetables.

Hello doctors, my mother had breast cancer operation 3 week ago. Now the doctors are telling me to have chemotherapy. But I don't want her to have chemotherapy and I requested them to give her oral chemo but they are not at all ready to do so? So will oral chemo work or not and is it necessary for chemotherapy. As the doctors have said that they have no guarantee that even after giving chemo the cancer will not be created again . So refer me !

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear sir, post breast surgery, depending on histopathology reports, size and hormone receptor status, chemotherapy is decided. For breast no oral chemotherapy is done, however if she is hormone receptor positive, hormonal therapy may be done as a systemic treatment, but detailed histopathology reports are required to decide about further treatment, so please share.

Hi Borne sarcom treatment given to 23 old male+5 chemo+5 radiation given. Now doctors asked to do operation so we hesitate due to risk factors so we decided not to do operation. Now doctors say to again start chemo. So we r confused whether chemo will be good or starting ayurvedic medicine will be good. And what r other risk of chemotherapy vs ayurvedic. CT/Scan, mri are done. PLEASE GIVE VALUABLE ADVICE OR prescription TO US. Thank you.

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear, sarcoma is a fast growing tumor in spite of chemotherapy and radiotherapy recurrence is a rule. If after surgery there is no spread anywhere in the body surgery should be done and diseased part completely removed with enough normal surrounding tissue. Spread to lungs is common. Only chemotherapy is time pass. Ayurvedic success is not established and is again time pass.

Can depression be cured only by exercising n doin yoga regularly or one needs to switvh on to medicines. How safe is it to have a lasik operation. Can a person suffering from cancer and going through chemotherapy can exercise regularly.

Yes yoga and exercising are good ways to fight depression, but one may need the help of medicines if not improving. A lasik surgery is safe, but finer details should be consulted with an ophthalmologist. Yes, even cancer patients on chemotherapy should exercise as per tolerability.

Cosmetic/Plastic Surgeon,
Gynaecomastia is normal sometimes in puberty, but persistence of abnormal breast tissue in adult male can be due to a lot of clinical conditions klienfelter syndrome, lymphomas, luekemias, estrogen excess, and side effects of drugs like digitalis, inh, spiranolactone, cimetidine, ranitidine, oestrogens. You need examination by doctors and rule out any pathology,if everything is normal then liposuction can give excellent results.I have treated many patients successfully. www.plasticsurgeryindia.net

Ovarian Cancer: Causes and Risk Factors

DGO, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Delhi
Ovarian Cancer: Causes and Risk Factors

Ovaries are the primary reproductive organs in the female body which produces the eggs that need to be fertilized to form a fetus in the womb. Ovarian cancer is a type of cancer that develops in the ovaries and spreads till the pelvis and the abdomen. This cancer is usually cured by either a surgery or chemotherapy.

Causes

Ovarian cancer is mostly caused due to a genetic mutation which transforms the healthy cells of the ovaries into abnormal cancerous cells. The abnormal cells then generally form a tumor which spreads further inside the female body. The type of cell in which the cancer begins determines the type of ovarian cancer you have. Ovarian cancer types include:

  • Epithelial tumors: it is the most common type of ovarian cancer which begins from the thin layer that covers the ovaries.
  • Stromal tumors: this type begins in those tissues which contain the hormone producing cells.
  • Germ cell tumors: this usually happens among relatively younger women, and it originates from the egg producing cells of the ovaries.

Risk factors

Factors that boost your risk of getting an ovarian cancer are listed below:

  • Age: the risk of ovarian cancer is greater in women who are between 50 to 60 years. However, ovarian cancer is such a condition that can occur at any age.
  • Estrogen hormone replacement therapy: this therapy tends to alleviate menopausal symptoms and renews the hormones of a woman's body. If you are undergoing this therapy then you are at a risk of developing ovarian cancer.
  • Congenital: the risk of ovarian cancer can sometimes also be due to an inherited gene mutation and can be passed on from the parents to the offspring.
  • Menstrual risk: if you had started menstruating before the age of 12 or had a menopause before the age of 52 then the risk of you developing ovarian cancer increases.
  • Other risk factors: these factors do not pose a subsequent amount of threat of having an ovarian cancer, but they slightly increase the risk. These are activities like: regular smoking, fertility treatments, never being pregnant, use of an intrauterine device and polycystic ovary syndrome.
