Care for shoulder pain and related problems

Shoulder problems usually happen because of internal problems or external trauma. People who are into any form of manual labour, pick up a lot of heavy things regularly or play sports experience shoulder pain at some point of time or other. Shoulder pain can be detected by physical examination, mri, x-ray, ultrasound and medical history.

The most common types of shoulder problems are arthritis, fracture, dislocation, frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tear, and rotator cuff disease. Cures for the different shoulder pains are different. Follow these simple ways to help you manage the pain.

1. Rest the hurtful shoulder: you need to take ample rest. Using the arm which is affected is not a good idea and needs to be avoided. If your job involves manual labour, it is advised that you stay at home to rest.

2. Ice pack healing: applying ice pack on the wound is also advised around 3-4 times in a day. This varies as per the kind of shoulder pain, so doctor's advice must be followed.

3. Be consistent with exercise: depending upon the source of pain, physiotherapist will advise certain sets of shoulder exercises. It is very important that they should be performed diligently for fast recovery.

4. Support it well: wearing a sling is extremely important and should not be taken lightly at any point of time. A good support will ensure

Have you ever felt pain in your great toe or may be ankle/foot/knee/heel/wrist/elbow which was intially in one joint and over the time involved other joints too. Then you might be having increased uric acid levels. Diet is important in such patients. Consume food less in purine content like cornflakes, white bread, pasta, flour, milk and its products, eggs, lettuce, tomatoes, green veggies and fruit juices. Strict no to all high purine foods like meats, seafood, beas, peas, lentils, spinach, cauliflower, mushrooms, beer and other alcoholic beverages.

Quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day.

Sir, no fracture heals in 2 weeks, u need to keep the plaster on for a minimum of 6 weeks and then get a check x ray. If the fracture is still not healed, keep plaster on for additional 2 weeks. Also get your vitamin d levels (blood test) checked, if it is low, you will need supplements for the same.

Dear pain in the curve of the foot (the arch) is because of strain (pressure) on it. This is called foot strain. If not treated properly may lead to secondary flat foot (primary is by birth). Do contrast bath as you r already doing, put a soft arch support in your shoe (they are available in special medical shops) and go to a physio for faradic stimulation and do exercises to strengthen the short and long muscles of the foot and ankle. Medicines do not help in this condition. You can take a pain killer sos. You will settle in about 6 weeks time but ct. Execises for 6 months and avoid standing at one place for long hours. Take care.

Dos and don'ts (precautions) vary depending on your doctor's surgical technique. Your doctor and physical therapist will provide you with a list of dos and don'ts to remember with your new hip. These precautions will help to prevent the new joint from dislocating and ensure proper healing. Here are some of the most common precautions: the don'ts don't cross your legs at the knees for at least 6 to 8 weeks. Don't bring your knee up higher than your hip. Don't lean forward while sitting or as you sit down. Don't try to pick up something on the floor while you are sitting. Don't turn your feet excessively inward or outward when you bend down. Don't reach down to pull up blankets when lying in bed. Don't bend at the waist beyond 90 degrees.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. You will have to elaborate her complaints in detail: 1) what weakness are you talking, is it generalized fatigue after work? 2) which joints are affected, whats been the duration of joint pains? how much distance can she walk normally and what medicines is she taking on a daily basis? such issues can be due to anemia or deficiency of certain minerals and vitamins in body. I advise you to send me all investigations so that I can see and then advise you accordingly. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Hi = relax and stay positive. = increase fluid intake. = eat seasonal fruits for natural vitamins = do streching of hamstring, quadriceps, and calf muscles. = if you are overweight, reduce weight by cycling or swimming as it gives low impact on joints. = do check your calcium and vit. D = apply moist heat pad to affected joint and muscles. If still you dont get relief consult physiotherapist as there are various causes for leg/ joint pain and some test may be required for further investigation. Best wishes.
