You need to do facial exs as much as you can. You can do blowing, whistling, facial massage, froning, smiling movement.

PILLOWS AND MATRESSES.

“My neck pain started two days ago, Immediately I removed my pillow”

This is the very usual dialogue that I hear in my daily practice from my patients who are suffering from neck pain. Is pillow that important factor in causing neck pain or in relieving neck pain?? Let us know the facts.

Neck pain can be caused because of various reasons. Poor neck posture is one of the reasons for neck pain. So, what should be your sleeping posture? How can a pillow alter your normal sleeping posture?

Body needs rest and sleep gives our body rest so that body and mind work efficiently. It is very important that we maintain a normal sleeping posture so that muscles also get rest.

Ideally,

  • Spine has to be straight
  • Neck has to be in line with the body.
  • It is better to avoid sleeping on tummy, as you will be forced to turn your neck to one side to facilitate breathing. Whole length of your sleep is spent with the neck turned to one side, out of alignment with the body, forcing the brain to sense something wrong and you wake up with a stiff neck. Pillow has no role here!!!

So, what kind of pillow can be used?

  • Pillow can neither be too hard as it doesn’t absorb the shock/ weight of head, nor it can be too soft as the weight of the head can depress the pillow down and might take neck too low than body.
  • Ideally the pillow has to regain its original shape faster once you wake up from lying position. If a pillow takes too long to come back to its original shape or doesn’t come at all or remains in the same shape, its time for you to change your pillow.
  • If you are lying on your back, its better to use a thin pillow which supports your head and neck. Please do not use a thick pillow in this position, as it may raise or bring your head and neck forward or higher than body causing stress to your spine.

Not using a pillow when you lie down in this position can take your neck backwards and might cause trouble breathing.

Recommended to use a thin/ lighter pillow when you lie down on your back.

  • If you are lying on your side (right or left), its better to go with a thicker pillow. Ideally the pillow should be as thick as the distance between your shoulder and neck, so that when you lie down on your side the neck doesn’t go down or go up and stays in line with the body. Pillow has to be used!!

Recommended to use a thicker pillow when lying on side.

Pillow is not a major cause of neck pain. Its always better to use a pillow than not using at all. Removing the pillow the moment neck pain starts is definitely not a good solution for your neck pain. Chose the right pillow and more importantly consult your Physiotherapist.

Mattress:

As with the pillow for neck pain, mattress is not a major cause for back pain.

  • Mattress should not be too hard, should not be too soft either.
  • If it is too soft, the broader areas of our body like the hips and shoulders, might press the mattress down thereby reducing the support for other body parts, which strains them as they do not get proper support.
  • If its too hard, the mattress wont be able to support the various natural curvatures of our body (broader and narrower areas), forcing the muscles to work more and get strained.
  • Its better to change a sacked mattress or too depressed mattress.
  • Mattress should be uniform in contour.
  • Lying bare on floor wont work!!!!

And more importantly consult your Physiotherapist for back related issues.

Hi, Take tab. Shirashooladi vajra ras 1-1-1 with ginger juice. Apply ginger paste on the forehead. Instill cephagraine nasal drops 2 drops to each nostril 3 time a day. You can undergo panchakarma treatment like nasya or shirodhara after checking with an ayurvedic doctor.

Symptoms are headache, vomiting, giddiness, paralysis of any body part including limbs, face, tongue etc. There are a lot of other symptoms and not all patients have all of them. Treatment depends on a no. Of factors like type, site, size of tumor etc. But consists of surgery followed by radio and chemotherapy. Either alone or in combinations.

Hello doctor, my friend is having lumbar issue l4 & l5, diagnosed as stenosis, right leg pain & foot numbness some times . Is it should he avoid intercourse & more sex? if it so is it increases?

It may be migraine take ibuprofen for pain. Get ib p checked, blood test for sugar, lipid profile. Do exercise regularly. Take fresh fruits. Ask again with reports. Take care.

Hello, symptoms of brain tumours are different according to different location of the tumour in the brain. Some may have hearing difficulty, blurring of vision, head ache, difficulty talking etc. Brain tumours are not usually caused by the reasons which you mentioned in your question. It may increase the problem if there is existing tumour. Stress is known to case brain stroke which usually affects one side of the body which may be called as paralysis.

It could be due to tension,worries,and anxiety.Check your Hemoglobin and Bp. Avoid stress if any. Take good nourishing diet,green leafy vegetables, fruits,milk etc. Take one tablet of multivitamin daily. Consult doctor for a General check up

Hello Doctor, I am 32 years old female, working in a pvt company. I have a history of migraine which got better and also low blood pressure and acidity. From the past 10 days I'm having constant headache especially when I get up in the morning. I am taking migranil from past 1 week twice which is relieving the pain. But this headache is daily. I have no stress as such of work or personal. Also it's been 1-2 months I I have this weird pain in my right feet. It's like I feel a hot thing running inside. Its a pinching Sensation. please guide.

Get BP and eye sight checked, x ray PNS, thyroid hormones T3 T4 Tsh 1.Sleep.Go to bed and get up about the same times every day, 3. Eat regular meals. 4. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration 5. Relax – listen soothing music. Walk for 5 mts 6.avoid .stress, 7. .avoid strong stimuli like loud noises, and smell of food 8. Keep your routine fixed and regular for medicine contact on private chat.

Hello lybrate-user, Parkinson's disease is a type of neuromovement disorder coz of less dopamine in body so it cause problems in movement of body. Persons starts having trouble in walking, stiffness of whole body, doing his daily activities, slow in all kinds of actions. It also associated with psychiatric complaints And your concern abt his bone pains, which can be unlikely due to Parkinson's disease. As you mentioned his age is 65 yr, he could be suffering from arthritis. Please do check his serum calcium. Vit. D levels. And do his xray of the bones he is having pains. And refer back. Have a nice day.

Cerebral atrophy is a common feature of many of the diseases that affect the brain. Atrophy of any tissue means a decrement in the size of the cell, which can be due to progressive loss of cytoplasmic proteins. In brain tissue, atrophy describes a loss of neurons and the connections between them.

You may be having headache because of stress/ refractory problems/ any ent problem or may be migraine headache follow advises given below: 1. Adequate sleep 6-8 hr in a day 2. Get check eyes for refractive error 3. Ent evaluation to rule out sinusitis 4. Get bp checked 5. Avoid mental stress, regular physical exercise like morning walking and meditation and yoga 6. Avoid triggers for headache like direct sunlight.
