What are the symptoms of cervical spondylitis and what is the treatment for it any diet control for it.

BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Bangalore
SYMPTOMS are: * Muscle weakness that makes hard to lift the arms or grasp objects firmly. * pain around the shoulder blade. * a stiff neck that becomes worse. * headaches that mostly occur in the back of the head * tingling or numbness that mainly affects shoulders and arms, although it can also occur in the legs. Symptoms that occur less frequently: * loss of balance * loss of bladder or bowel control. TREATMENT: * Physiotherapy - It helps you stretch your neck and shoulder muscles. This makes them stronger and ultimately helps to relieve pain. You might also have neck traction, which involves using weights to increase the space between the cervical joints and relieve the pressure on the cervical discs and nerve roots. * muscle relaxants - to treat muscle spasms * anti-epileptic drugs - to relieve pain caused by nerve damage * steroid injections - to reduce tissue inflammation and subsequently lessen pain * Surgery - If your condition is severe and doesn’t respond to other forms of treatment DIET: * Eating 2-3 cloves of garlic in the morning along with the application of garlic oil can provide a fast relief from neck pain. * consume lemon juice three times a day along with a pinch of rock salt.

Massage with your thumbs from the mid points of the shoulder blades on both sides towards the lower back of your head up to lower level of the ears. Use oil or water for massage. Rotate your head clockwise and anticlockwise, forward and down, left and right a few times. Do for 5 to 10 times morning and evening. Give pressure the dipping point on the portion between the thumb and the index finger on the back of the palm. Press and release for 15 times where the pain is more. This will solve the problem. Further do some wrist rotation exercise. Consult after 5 days. For further guidance and treatment.

Back Pain - 8 Signs You Should See A Doctor!

Back Pain - 8 Signs You Should See A Doctor!

Pain causes a lot of discomfort in the body no matter whether the pain is in the back, legs or in the head. Almost all people experience lower-back pain at some point in their lives, which can be extremely painful and can cause considerable annoyance. The first medical specialty that comes to mind for relief of lower-back pain is Orthopedics. The other two specialists that play a vital role in treating lower-back pain are the neurosurgeons and the physiatrists.

Pain in the Back
It is very difficult for the body to source the pain when it is deep and this pain could be due to infection, disease or injuries in the back, stomach and heart. It is even possible that the pain radiates to different places in the body. Often back pain is accompanied by body changes like redness, fever, neurological problems, heat, and changes in body functions and for that diagnosis of the back pain may be very severe. Patients suffering from lower-back pain and with symptoms that comprise of weakness in the foot or other symptoms of a neurologic insufficiency must definitely see a neurosurgeon.

Back pain that occurs due to reversible problems is known to vanish in a few hours or in a day. However, if it continues longer and is accompanied by body changes, then there are chances that the condition can become worse. Visiting a doctor becomes a must for back pain if any of such characteristics are witnessed. It is always better to get evaluated by a physician.

When to Consult a Doctor Immediately

  1. Back pain that is followed by a shock like a car accident.
  2. The pain in the back worsens and is constant
  3. Back pain continues for more than 4-6 days
  4. The pain does not improve even after taking typical remedies such as taking pain relievers or after resting.
  5. Severe pain in the back in the night and that is alleviated by rest
  6. The back pain is accompanied by abdominal pain
  7. Numbness in the upper thighs, buttocks, groin or in the genital area
  8. Weakness or tingling sensation in the arm or legs

Role of a Neurosurgeon
The neurosurgeon provides non-surgical as well surgical care depending upon the nature of the illness or the injury, and he does not just operate. The neurosurgeons are experts and offer treatment to patients suffering from any injury or disease in the spine, brain or peripheral nerves that deal with arms, hands, feet and legs. But there are many other neurosurgeons that confine their practice to treating back pain. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can ask a free question.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. As far as your knee pain goes, if there is no history of any injury, no swelling or any other s/s of inflammation or infection, my advise will be for physical therapy, anti inflammatory medications for 5-7 days, adequate calcium and vitamin d intake, ice packs at home and then let us see how much are you improving with conservative management. For your irregular periods, you should consult your gynaecologist as she will the best person to advice on that. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Mr. Lybrate-user, it is difficult to say whether the being experienced by her is due to diabetes. One needs to look at various causes, plus location, intensity of pain, nature and what affect it has on her movement, grip and strength etc. High sugar can can cause various kinds of problems. But 200 mg after food is high but need not be the cause for that kind of a pain.

That pain continues in a network in that area and and my hand palm and fingers are too weak to tackle and lift a dictionary or a book. The pain also occurs when sitting idle mostly while sitting. But can tackle and lift heavier things like a plastic chair without pain. Had C2 C3, spondylitis with left upper arm pain also.

Contrast bath---It is a form of treatment where a limb or the entire body is immersed in warm water followed by the immediate immersion of the limb or body in ice water. This procedure is repeated several times, alternating hot and cold. Note that the treatment should always end in the ice water, as heat will induce the body's inflammatory response, while cold helps to decrease inflammation. Gentle Stretching of Hand Muscles. Ball exercises. Wrist Exerciser.

I have a pain in legs joint after walking some distance. What was a reason behind this any protein or calcium?
Hello lybrate-user, pain in leg is common at all ages. There are various causes of leg pain- cramps muscle spasm muscle fatigue nutritional deficiencies dehydration standing for long hours injuries medical conditions like arthritis, gout, dvt, restless leg syndrome, varicose veins, etc. One should try and find out the real cause of it for early treatment and control. Some temporary relief majors are - # ice fomentation - if leg pain is due to physical exertion or fresh injury. You can do it with an ice pack or put ice cubes in a normal plastic bag or zip lock bag n then cover this with a piece of cotton cloth for fomentation. # hot fomentation with hot water andhalf cup of epsom salt. It is a muscle relaxant and regulate nerve signals. Massage with hot oil is also relaxing. Regular exercise will also help. Advice on calcium intake is possible only after detail case history. For any medicinal advise you can consult me. Regards,
